Hi, I'm Mark and I've been teaching and playing guitar professionally for 26 years now, and I've picked up a lot of insights along the way; things I wish I had known when I started out. That's why I started this channel - to share this knowledge with you.
But this is more than just a place to learn guitar. It's also place where you can hang out, relax, be yourself, get support, make friends and get inspired to have more fun with your guitar.
So go ahead. Pick up your axe. Hit play. And be a better guitarist.

It's people like you who help in so many ways! I'm 32 years old and have never understood Guitar…I tried but I just couldn't do it. At least I thought I couldn't. I was in a cover band with 5 guys and they were a bunch of jerks. I said I wanted to be more than just a pretty face singer and that I was going to learn guitar and play on stage along with them for shows but the Guitarist told me I would only mess things up. So I went home and told myself no more giving up because now I felt something to prove. It's been about 3/4 months and I've devoted spending hours a day watching videos and practicing. Despite the hurt fingers! I got past that…But because of your generosity sharing your knowledge and talent along with other Guitarists, I'm so much further a head and things are making sense now. I will be on my way to playing on stage ALONE very soon here. I am a subscriber and without a doubt I will continue to watch your videos! Thank you from Las Vegas!
+Mark TheGuitarGuy Complete gratitude here, as I'm sure the rest of the viewers feel the same. I actually really enjoy this 6/8 strum pattern, it's really pretty when you mix up the chords within it as you said. Thanks for reply and I will enjoy every chord!! :)
Thanks Mark I appreciate that! For sure I'll be checking that video out. Right on!
I love your comment!
Brilliant Nielle, I hope you're getting on well. I have given up twice due to jerky or just plain incompetent teachers. Finding Mark is a huge relief.
i think the guitarist was threatened by you learning!
Yes, have looked around for good demo on 6/8 & yours is one I can grapple with. Thanks...aiming for Celtic sound on mandolin.
Awesome, I love the way you also explain the variations one can do. Thanks again!
Mark, by far you have been the best guitar instructor. I am looking forward to enjoy every single training video of yours. Thank You.
Hey man, I've been using youtube to learn guitar for 3 years it'll be in january. you rock man. you rock. seriously. this is the best freaking channel. just keep going. keep going.

Thanks Mark as always your way of explaining is great really appreciate it....
Mark... pleased to find your strumming tuition and been practicing like mad... can not believe the sudden impact! Grateful, thanks a lot!
WOW! Thank you Mark for sharing what you know about guitar.
You have a great way of setting me at ease. I am a beginner and in my mid 60's but have been playing since January of this year and it's first of August.
Hardest part so far is relaxing my strumming wrist so I really sound very hard and not smooth.
But I will keep working on it and watching your videos.
Again thank you for sharing and giving your time to teaching.
Hey thank you very much for taking the time to show us these great guitar lessons!
thanks for these lessons Mark... you have done a great job with these videos
Mark, thanks for another great video. Your instruction is great and easy to understand. Looking forward to more!
You can actually teach weak student like me. Very clear, informative and I like the teaching style too.
+Mark TheGuitarGuy You are a fantastic musician.. Best Regards-Michael.Sreepuram
I've been struggling with this until now. One watch and I can nail it. Thanks.
Very nice teaching Mark. Thank you so much.
wow..awesome lesson esp the upward accent part sounded so cool..m trying this today..thanks
Thank you! I appreciate the way you broke it down.
the best thing about videos are they are short and precise. unlike many others, you get straight to the point and stay on track. ALL of your videos are very informative, not boring, amazing and most importantly encouraging. thanks, the guitar guy. :) keep rocking, tic-tocking :p
Gonna try this pattern with accents to "I Loved Her First" -- Heartland -- for my daughter's wedding in October; so lots of time to get it right. I'm told tempo is ~68 bpm. Wish me luck. Self-taught over past four years but have no sense of rhythm so it all sounds the same whatever the strum pattern. I (mostly) despair.
This is just amazing.
Some of this stuff seems simple enough but many (like myself) have never caught on to it. Kind of like pro-classes.
Learning 'Dear John' - Taylor Swift, and just couldn't work out the 6/8 strumming pattern, thank you so much for this video! You've helped a new guitarist towards playing his first song, and I'm sure many to come!
That's awesome Mark.God bless you.
well done Mark.you are a great teacher . thanks
Thank you so much! First person to explain it in way I can understand!!
Thanks a lot Mark. Ur patterns are a great help for beginners like me.
Thanks Mark. I really feel there is a way forward for me. I've had some very weird teachers. One guy kept on changing the rhythm by throwing in an extra strum every now and then. I couldn't understand why I was out of beat until I pointed that out to him, but he said it doesn't matter, it's part of creating your own "feel".
Sure is nice of you to share knowledge like this. Thank you. Untill next time.
Hi Mark, Thanks for the awesome lessons, Am getting better by the day.
Keep up the good work.....
Great video! Keep up the great work!
Thanks a ton. I've been writing in predominately 4/4 my whole music career (19 years) and have always been afraid of alternate timings. This cleared things up quite nicely. You have a very nice teaching style. I've "Liked" and will subscribe. Hoping you have some tutorials of even more obscure time signatures. Cheers, from Texas USA

I'll be doing a session on beginners fingerstyle, covering the main patterns, nd hopefully that'll help out a lot of people. Loving the comments and appreciate you taking the time to say:)
Hi Mark!!! I stumbled upon you a few weeks ago and wanted you to know how much I absolutley LOVE your approach to teaching guitar. I have been trying to play on my own for the past 2 years with little success. You have taken it to the next level for me!! YAY!!! I don't know if you already do this somewhere but could you consider giving a list of a few songs to try and play after teaching a specific strum pattern??? THANK YOU!!

Thats very kind and good to know. I initially was more concerned with the actual strumming part, assuming people would just use whatever chords they liked. But I will include that in further lessons when it's appropriate my friend :)
