How do you feel that 6 years later this video still helped someone haha 😂 No but thank you SO much. My fish has lived for six years and the whole system stopped working and I couldn’t figure it out and was just going to buy a new one! Thank you thank you thank you, a million times thank you!!!!
Great video! My Aquatech 5-15 filter wasn't flowing right. It wasn't all that dirty, but I took it apart and cleaned everything. It's now back to flowing like a river!
Ma'am you saved my fish so I thank you very much.I had a slow drip for a while I would clean the filters and take what I thought was the whole thing apart to clean but the drip finally stopped. No more water was coming out and I was trying to fix it because it's been broke for a few days. Then my last effort was looking on how to prime my pump because I thought it would lead me somewhere.I found your video had no idea that whole other part came out, and sure enough I had the black springs off the filter that came off and got stuck around the spinning part along with other gunk. Now it's good as new and my fish will live.I wouldn't have had money until Friday to buy one,so may God bless you.You really did an amazing job and a wonderful deed uploading this helpful video.Much love to you!
I feel your pain... I was in the same boat.. it was buy a new one or take apart the one I had and try to salvage it... thank God the salvage worked for me and a lot if other people facing this tiny pain in the neck..happy I could make you happy
After working for 2 days on the filter..found your site..took out the propellor unit cleaned above that...It runs like a new filter!!! Thank you so much!!!
You are a Rockstar! I use these filters for a pond I made for my ferret who loves the running water. Have been pulling this thing apart for days wondering why the water was trickling. I've never had an aquarium so I had no clue what to do and I was determined to find an answer before just buying another. And then there was you, the light in the dark, and now I will clean out the moss that is blocking the flow and my little girl will have her flowing water back. Thank you so very much. Fyi, I never leave comments, but I had to for you. Quick, simple, precise. Perfect!!!
Thanks to your tutorial, I knew exactly where the clog was. I didn't have to take anything apart. I just stuck a toothpick in all the small crevices to get the gunk out, rinsed the area really well, and looked at it from every angle to make sure everything was clear. Now it works perfectly!
And then along came you two and im just about crying for joy. my daughterin law gifted me with her old ten or twenty gallon aqaurium with what i think are six guppies and i couldnt get the pump to work. it has taken pretty much 72 hrs, and its finally going!! lol, i didnt know the tank had to be filled. Thank you so much, i was going to give up because i thought the fish were suffering too much. They are looking so happy right now. i am so grateful i stumbled on your channel.
I thought I was cleaning the pump - couldn’t figure out why it was so slow. I didn’t know that part came apart - sooo much gunk! Works great again. Thanks!
Cleaning my filter per your instructions fixed it! My fish are happy again. It's important to let your filter work for several minutes after cleaning for the water to start running through properly. Thanks!
I did this today! Ha!! I changed my filter and then my filter would not come back on. My filter was a little different, but I figured it out with your instructions. I took it all apart and cleaned the pump as you suggested. I am woman. I am strong. LOL It started running again after it was clean. Thank you!
Thanks! Your video helped me unclog my daughter's filter. It was very easy once I saw your video. You saved me from having to buy another one and you saved her fishes.
thank you so much. i just started my fish tank and quickly upgraded to a 15 gallon tank. when i switched over the pump just quit and i thought i was going to have to buy a new one. thank you so much for researching and experimenting with an end processes of success!
THANK YOU. SO MUCH. i’ve been so stressed because my filter wasn’t running, i didn’t even realize you could take that cap off! mine was covered in cat hair, but now it works beautifully! thank you so much!!!
I was about ready to get rid of both my filters! I bought a new 10-20 Aqua- Tech filter for a fry tank we were setting up, but ended up using a sponge filter for that instead. anyways, I had a 5-15 on my 20 gallon. That started running slow, so I switched out the 5-15 for my 10-20, which made me feel more comfortable seeing as it was more suitable for my 20 gallon. Within a few week, THAT ONE started running slow too! I tried EVERYTHING I could think of to fix it! Soaking it in hot water, replacing the filter cartridge, just about everything. I put my old 5-15 back in it, so the filtration would be better (in my opinion). I got so frustrated watching them both run slow that I was about to buy another filter. I came across your video, and now they're both running PERFECTLY. Thanks a bunch, definitely saved me money and more headache.
WOW! I got this filter secondhand from a friend who claimed it was terrible and defective. If only she could see it now! Works like a charm and my fish is quite happy as he actually enjoys a good current to play in. (He's a very hardy and energetic goldfish.) As the creator said be sure to rinse the pieces as that really helped get so much junk out of mine. Wonderful and clear tutorial! I will absolutely return to this video if/when my filter starts acting up again. This is clearly a woman who is passionate about her fish! Keep up the good work!!
Thanks so much for posting this! My filter quit working so I typed the name into google to price it, and this video was the first result. I took my filter apart and cleaned it well and it works now! Better to fix than to buy a new one! Thanks again!
I'm so happy it helped you... Mine was the same situation as yours before I made this video... I thought I would have to throw out my pump and buy a new one... I'm so happy my video helped you.... Happy Holidays !!!! (one less expense)
Hello:) Thank you VERY MUCH for this video! I have a 10 gallon aquarium that was given to me by a friend over a year ago. it came with one of these Aqua Tech 5-15 water filters and I LOVED how quiet it was and how well it worked. Then the flow started getting low like you mentioned in your video. I just figured it was old and I bought a new Aqua Tech 5-15 water filter. The new filter worked beautifully for about a month and then it too had low output of water. So since I knew this filter was new I started to research what was wrong and what I was doing wrong. I found your video and HOORAY! I fixed my water filters:) It was very easy! THANK YOU SO MUCH :)
You are very welcome...I was surprised the manufacturer didn't post a simple 'how to' like this...Glad I could help... I clean mine now about every 4-6 weeks...
Thank you so much. my mom handed down this filter to me... I thought it worked fine until my tank got foggy the next day. I did what u did and that waterfall flows great now. Lets see if my tank clears up tomorrow...
OMG! Your video was short sweet and to the point.. I had the same drip issue.. had been considering a new filter.. then I came across your video. Now my 5-15 is running fully and beautifully. Thanks again from me and my 6 goldfish
Omg you saved me my filter stopped working when I changed my fish tank water when I filled it back up it was like only drops were coming out i thought i needed to buy a new filter thx this was explained to well and when I tried looking online on how to fix it nothing came up but u, thank you very much
Thank you very much.you just save me from buying a new filter.i always take it out and rinse it but never took appart the propeller and cylinder.never thought it will be so easy. Thanks again.my fished thank you👍👍👍👍👍👍
I know this video is old but just wanted to comment and say you honestly saved the day! I couldn’t afford a new pump and my fish was barely hanging on 😭 but thanks to you I was able to get it fixed 💓 it’s amazing how much poop gets stuck in this thing lol
You are AMAZING!! My filter has been the biggest stressor for me, going off and on randomly for months, and this video was just the solution. Thank you, thank you!
My filter also was just dribbling water for a while and I could never figure out what was wrong with it! Thanks so much, it's now working perfectly! :)
Brianne Smartt Hi Brianne... so glad yours is working now... it's so frustrating when it doesn't do what it's supposed to. I just emptied my entire aquarium out today ... I took my KOI to my nephew's house where he has a large KOI pond. I completely cleaned my aquarium and put my (30 or so) baby fish from my downstairs aquarium up here in this large tank where they have plenty of room to grow... they're about 3 weeks old now... glad your tank is working for you....
Thanks. Following your instructions I cleaned the pickup tube and impeller. I also took out the motor and cleaned the gunk out of that part of the housing. I was preparing to throw away 3 of the pumps and filters when I came across your instructions. Thanks again.
Thank you very much my filter stop working and I took every piece and washed it ( expect the plugger of course) and it worked perfect!!! You earned a subscriber
thank you so much! i was about to throw my filter away and replace it but i did exactly what you said and it fixed my filter! its working perfectly now!!!! thank you SO much this was so helpful
Oh my gosh- Thank you SO much!!! I was scared to tamper with my filter and I only had a trickle of water and knew something was up, I tried out your method and the most of my problem was hair wrapped around the Axel! I have two long haired dogs, so this helped me so much. You are such a lifesaver holy crap! I was originally gonna get a different filter because I thought mine broke! My filter runs so much more smoothly and the water cleared up much easier! 9 year old video, but helps so well!
I have the 10-20 gallon model for my 10 gallon tank. I recommend it because it has a little different design around the propeller area where it doesn't get hair stuck in around the axel. I've had it for a couple months and it hasn't gave me any problems, and I know that hair does get in my tank because I have cats in my house.
THANK YOU! It works like brand new! I had been cleaning everywhere else. I was too intimidated to try take the thing apart myself, but u helped save my little snails and probably my fancy Goldie. My snails all came to the surface and I'm assuming because the water flow was so slow there was not enough oxygen generated through the tank. So thanks so match for sharing!
This just saved me $$$! I was going to buy a new filter because the water was barely dripping out. Sure enough there was little holes in that piece you described that were clogged even though when I cleaned it a couple weeks ago I thought it was cleaned but I completely looked over that! Thank you so much! It works great now :)
Great video. I clean my filter system out each time but I've never done this...and it worked like a charm...a virtual stream running back into the aquarium! Thank you!
Add me to your thankful list of viewers. We've thrown a couple of pumps out because we thought they were shot. Now we change filters on a regular basis. Thanks again!!
Thank you your video help me so much there was also hair around my propeller to and I never would have thought to look there I was really fixing to go buy another one until I watched your video so thank you
Thanks for the detail. The water flow also gets restricted from the filter pad getting too much gunk on it. Just take it out and swish it around in old tank water and then stick it back in to the filter to use again.
Thank you so much for detailed information & all the graphics. I agree with the thing you said the most is..."I am a woman, I can do it!". This is my husband's newly developed 'hobby' & I am the one who is taking care of "post hobby" things! Your video helped me a lot. This filter was bothering me too much for past few days. I noticed some change in its operation but never thought it must be because of non maintenance.
Was gonna buy another filter brand, cause my 5-15 Was barely working, and it was only a couple months old, after watching your video, it only took me 5 minutes to get it working like brand new, wish I saw this video sooner, threw away two filters because of the same problem. thanks for your video
This honestly saved me $$$$ and time. Thank you. I had my mini gourami in a 10 gallon and went through 3 pumps before i had enough smarts to research haha. Incredible graphics and explanations. Exactly what you said, it had hair around the part. Couldn’t thank you enough. Love from US, West Virginia
I am so happy my video helped you... i know how frustrating it is when the pump slows down and you just can't figure out why... that's how i felt... have a great day
Thank you very much for this video. I was having the exact same problem you were having and after cleaning this device myself and with continual frustration I searched for solutions and found your tutorial right away. Although I have a newer model than you, the premise was the same and now my pump is working perfectly. Again thank you and commenting on your first statement, give women more credit! :P
Hi I m mike you video helped me I had my filter backwards and you said "I m a woman and even I can do it" of course you can your smart and your equal to any man.... My wife was very intelligent but I lost her to sickness last week..... Good Job bye bye Mike
Thank you for your video. I received the same water filter from a friend. It was VERY dirty. Your video helped me give it a good cleaning, and it runs like it's brand new. :)
.I remember when my tank was cloudy the first time and I figured this thing out and to see it actually doing it's "JOB" and now my once "two little fish" are so huge, I am literally moving them TODAY to an outdoor KOI pond... my two little fish in this video are now about 10" long and 8" long and are now "officially" too big for this tank....time to get new "little" fish and start all over....
BEST VIDEO EVER! Completely accurate down to the hairs causing the problem!!! I thank you and my fishes thank you! I didn't even know it came apart the way you showed. I wish I could hug You! Amazing video!
mosheyahu thank you so much... most excellent review.. glad it helped.. I just cleaned my aquarium and pump again last night... have a great day... hugs back at ya..LOL
Worked for me. Cleaned parts with a Tooth Brush and some Q-Tips, Used a pair of pliers to hold one end of a Q-Tip to get down deeper in the Filter. Also changed my filter in the process and Is now working better than ever. Thanks!
You might try the steps in my video and carefully put it back together, itg should work..if it doesn't, it's possible your pump may actually be defective
i think the thumbs down come from other videos that try to do the same thing or nearly same thing but i'm gettin more view... doesn't bother me... it's all good.... glad it helped you...i know your fish are happy...LOL
Though my filter is brand new, it still is pretty much the same inside once it's opened up. I did not want to force the wheel off, it seems to stay as all one piece now, though the little black cap does come off. I was able to push one end about a quarter inch, to remove gunk from the wheel. I too had "hair" under that little area, I think it's probably lint that gets in there. I did not need a screw driver to pop that little top off, it comes off easily now. I agree with you, until i found your video, online the manufacturers have NOTHING to help posted at all. I found this very helpful and you gave me the confidence to get in there and get it back working again! Mine, wouldn't start back up, so I came online to figure out why. I found your video and learned there were more gunky areas, and there WERE! Ok, thanks for the great info, oh and two thumbs up on your graphics!
Thank you so much! I took the whole thing apart, so I thought! The little rubber end was the key! “Dirty Mike and the Boys” thank you as well! Blessings
Thank you so much !!! Mine was dripping badly as well for a very long time. The problem wasn't accumulated yunk, but thanks to your video I've had noticed that the "blue pillow" 🤣inside the filter box was upside down🤣Well, now it's running beautifully. It took me 3 filters to notice that mistake.🥴 Thanks again.
Hey the best thing you can use to clean the pump would be the shower head! Change shower head to the hardest one and you'll really notice a huge difference than the Q-tips. Great video by the way.
We appreciate your brief video. When trying to fix a friends tank it was nice we didn't have to spend too much time seeing how the filter should look. Thx again
I have been cleaning mine for a while and it always started working again. This time I'd clean it, put it back and it would still dribble. Found your video. I didn't know about taking the propeller fan off and cleaning out the slots. Just had to use my spray handle on the faucet and it blew out all the gunk. Thanks. I was almost going to get a new one.
Thank you so much for posting this amazing cleaning pointer on the fish pump. I have been battling with my son's fish pump trickling the last 2 times I have cleaned it and the tank. I even have the paperwork that came with the pump and your cleaning pointer is no where to be found in the "Troubleshooting" section. I was not even aware the black tip could be removed and there was another whole part to be cleaned (his was completely gunked up - fish are so nasty!). Thank you, thank you, thank you. This is our 3rd pump and I bet the other two were fine - just not getting cleaned thoroughly! Maybe a fish pump scam with not giving detailed instructions on taking all parts apart to be cleaned properly...
Cyndi... I am so happy this video helped you... I know your pain of not being able to get the thing to work "properly"... I went through that (way back when) and because I couldn't find anything on the web about cleaning this thing, I said it's time someone did... I wanted to make it as simple as possible and that's why I created the graphic illustrations... Now that it's pumping and cleaning your tank - you should only have to clean it about once a month... also - did your pet store advise you to only feed your fish once per day? fish are opportunistic feeders - meaning -- if there's food available, they will eat... but they only need fed a tiny amount once a day... my two big goldfish get about 1/3 teaspoon per day and they're big goldfish... they also advised me to stay away from "fish flakes" and use the little pellets a bit smaller than BB's.... I've found since I switched mine over to the tiny pellets the tank stays much cleaner... I get the pellets at walmart...(just sayin').... glad to hear the video helped you...
***** Cleaning it once a month will be nice! I have just started showing my son how to clean it - he is my helper until he gets the hang of it and then I will be his helper (he is 9 so he will always be supervised to make sure all steps are done). My pet store did not tell us to feed the fish once per day. They in fact told us to feed them twice a day, and we do use the flakes. My son has had the tank 3 years and this has been the routine since the beginning. It would make sense that the pellets would keep the tank cleaner. Only once a day though - they always seem so hungry the two times the flakes hit the water surface!
I literally *just finished* doing battle with this pump. I have several and use them on a rotating basis to filter my cats' drinking water into a plastic shoebox (works great). I have noticed they do pick up a moldy smell after a couple of weeks, so a few drops of Dawn, some scrubbing, a thorough rinse and all's good. But the filters kept pooping out on me, I had the same trickle you talked about. Through experiments, I discovered the gunky impeller shaft was the problem awhile back, but didn't know about the center holes. No more replacement buys for me for awhile, thanks!
Thank you. The filters are just not the same. They either don't work at all or stop working within a few days. I have assembled properly. Even the new reviews at Walmart.com have the same experience.
Yes it work nice finally ! Many thanks to you! And just like the lady says you help someone after 7 years !!!! And before getting a new one I just hit youtube one more time with my coat and boots on and ready to drive to walmart in a snow storm and I fell on your video and voilà ! Thank you very very much again ! :D
Don't forget to clean the tube that sucks the water out of your aquarium , my motor for the pump was running fine what's still no flow and I found that the tube supplying the water had gunk in it. Now it's flowing beautifully cleaned it out by shoving a zip tie through it.
Excellent video, very very helpful! I used a flat toothpick where you used the needle. I got this filter used with the tank and this is the first time it has run properly. My son WAY over fed the fish yesterday and today the tank was super cloudy and the filter was just not working, now I feel I can go to bed and not wake up to dead fish.
Thank you for the wonderful comment...I remember when my tank was cloudy the first time and I figured this thing out and to see it actually doing it's "JOB" and now my once "two little fish" are so huge, I am literally moving them TODAY to an outdoor KOI pond... my two little fish in this video are now about 10" long and 8" long and are now "officially" too big for this tank....time to get new "little" fish and start all over....

Ironically..I still clean mine this same way..
This just helped me out so much this day
Try 10 years
You mean ten years later haha
I’m here ELEVEN years later and this is helping me 😂😂😂
Watching this video in 2024 and it save me money. Thank You

Little air pressure worked great blew out the gunk of mine works great

9 years later this helped me from goong out and buying a new one 😍😍😍
I just want to say THANK YOU. it took me a second to take it apart but you really helped me out. I appreciate you!! 🎉
thank you so much! i was about to throw my filter away and replace it but i did exactly what you said and it fixed my filter! its working perfectly now!!!! thank you SO much this was so helpful
hi Emily.... thank you for the compliments.... I'm so happy this worked for you and saved you some money and your fish....
THANK you !!! you saved my filter...I had rinsed it out but hadn't taken that part apart..what a huge difference! Thank you again!
princessrosebud59 youre very welcome.. now you know how i felt the 1st time i cleaned mine..
lol...yes and I am glad you shared
Worked - my filter is now as good as new. Thank you!
Omg thank you so much!! I honestly replaced my fish filter twice! But I’m so glad I watched your video!!!
Thank you SO much. I couldn't find anything on how to do this
Thank you, my filter is working like new again!
Glad my video helped you... now, it's just another quick thing I do once or twice a month... and my fish are happy ... (( so am i ))... LOL
Worked perfectly. Runs better than ever! Thank you!
Michael..my heartfelt condolences to you. I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm glad my little video could help you with your filter...
I am sorry for your loss, i wish you well
This worked for me I'm a guy and probably would have never figured this out. I was just gonna buy a new one. THANK YOU M'LADY!!!!!!! Much Appreciated!
+Andy Gutierrez Hi Andy... so happy to have helped you and your fish... btw - nice bike... me
Thank You!
+Andy Gutierrez ............. and......... you're welcome.... ciao!
Thank you so much. You saved me a trip to Walmart to exchange mine
Thanks!
hi Keith... glad it worked for you... i bet your fish are happy....
Thank you that was very helpful, mine is brand new and i cant any water to flow out ...frustrating...
You might try the steps in my video and carefully put it back together, itg should work..if it doesn't, it's possible your pump may actually be defective
Thank you everything is working again 😊
I cant imagine someone thumbing this down. Thank You. Worked for me.
i think the thumbs down come from other videos that try to do the same thing or nearly same thing but i'm gettin more view... doesn't bother me... it's all good.... glad it helped you...i know your fish are happy...LOL
HI Jennifer.. Thank you for your kind words. I hope my vid helped you out...
Glad I fond this.Thank you for taking the time to make it. Worked perfectly
2021 here and it’s 12:29am and I watched you video and now my filter is working like new and very quiet once again. Thank you very much!
Thx again
She's very detailed, graphs look very impressive too. Just marvelous
Glad you found the video before you spent the money... hope it works a long time for you... and for your fish...thanks for writing...
Worked like a charm!
You cannot be serious
YOURE A LIFE SAVER!!! I was just about to buy a new one when I saw this! Thank you so much!!!! 😍😍😍
I'm so glad I saw this video. thanks for sharing this video now my filter is working beautiful! now my fishes are happy and alive. 💖
This was SO helpful! Thank you! I've looked so many places trying to figure this out. It now works like new! Woohoo!
Thank you. The filters are just not the same. They either don't work at all or stop working within a few days. I have assembled properly. Even the new reviews at Walmart.com have the same experience.
Thanks saved me $ from purchasing a new 1
Wow, thank you so so much! You just saved me from buying an entire new unit!
Thank you so much.worked great
AMAZING!! I wish I would have watched this months ago! What an easy fix! Thank you!
This video helped get my filter running back to normal. Thank you.
Now it's flowing beautifully cleaned it out by shoving a zip tie through it.
yep worked at a preschool changing fish tank. thanks!
So happy it worked for you and i know your fish are happy - not to mention your budget.... have a wonderful day
Thank u been struggling with my filter for like a week just got it working properly
Omg thank you! My pump is only letting Out a drip and I'm fixing it Now! I was stressed over it last night and this helps everything!
Thank you for the wonderful comment...I remember when my tank was cloudy the first time and I figured this thing out and to see it actually doing it's "JOB" and now my once "two little fish" are so huge, I am literally moving them TODAY to an outdoor KOI pond... my two little fish in this video are now about 10" long and 8" long and are now "officially" too big for this tank....time to get new "little" fish and start all over....
thanks I hadnt noticed the spiral part was clogged up and was about to throw the filter out lol
Thank you for your video, it saved both of my fish tanks. The fish are more active and it is wonderful. Thank you once again. Be blessed.
LusciousLadyTRC I am so happy it helped you...that was my goal..to pay it forward...
