I discovered Phoebe a couple years ago and she was a revelation to both my wife and I. I'm a musician myself but a man in my late 50s. On the surface, I'm not her core audience. But I've always been curious and open to music of many genres and from artists of any age or background. Her lyrics can seem dark to some but they are always very relatable. I've heard her described as a patient and very honest songwriter. I think that is spot on. But it all boils down to this for me: for some reason, Phoebe's voices touches my soul like few singer ever have. To me, her voice has a magical quality to it that is rare, especially in her softer side although I love her more "energetic" vocal performances too (like the version of Georgia you reacted to in another video). With some of her songs, she sings 2 phrases and I have water in my eyes (not a unique experience for me as music always had a huge emotional impact on me). But with her, the connection is almost always instant. I'm not sure what song I heard from her first, but I believe it's either Scott Street or Smoke Signals while listening to another artist's "Radio" playlist on Spotify while working (I work from home at the computer) and her voice just stopped me in my tracks. The more I learned about her since then, the more I fell in love with the music, the artist and the person. She is very special. Funeral here is another stand out and one of my favorites of hers. I often prefer live versions of her songs for the simplicity of directness but the album version of Funeral is just stunning to me. If I may request one myself, I believe your next Phoebe Bridgers reaction should be this live version of Scott Street.
