Are you referring to worsted or woolen spun merino wool? Because if so then no brushing that will definitely not yield the same result. This technique works best on yarn that contains Suri or Mohair.
In my opinion, fair choice of tools but too much pressure applied when using the pet brush. A probably better choice of a slicker brush would be the kind that have the small plastic endings on each metal bristle. This softer ended bristles combined with a gentler technique would be better for the knit and the garment on the long run. It's just an opinion. Also, the Lowes brush seems too rough for a fine fabric like alpaca or mohair...I'd think a brush with natural bristles like boar instead of synthetic would yield better results...thanks for the ideas btw.
Does this work for you personally? Good luck teasing out the fibres from their spun core with such blunt ends. Slicker brushes with bare wire ends are pretty much the same as carders, you know, that are used to process raw and often matted fibres for spinning. Comb for animal hair works on... animal hair.
Love the colors
Have you ever tried brushing huacaya alpaca?
Can I brush merino wool??
