Hey John! Love your channel - you’re such a big inspiration to me :) You seem to have so much maturity and thoughtfulness over your RUclips career. It feels so difficult to handle the pressures that come from a RUclips audience in an activity started just for fun, but you seem to have grounded yourself well :) Anyways that’s the end of my fan boy rant. Hi! I'm Oscar Medellin. I'm 20 and I'm from Mexico City. I can relate to some things you said. I'm also doing my university and got heartbroken in August 2018, at my 3th semester. Also, my grandma died the same week. It was so hard to me, kinda like I was a sailor in the middle of a storm. My boat got broke and I was alone. I didn't know how to fix it but also I could not leave the rudder. So, I was trying to keep my school and social life up, but took me a few months to realize that by forcing me wasn't really healing. I failed a little in some classes. But that's how maybe it has to be for me, because I (we) are not robots. We are not perfect. By the time I realized that fact, it was December. I got a lot better. I started a writing blog on Tumblr, started writing song as I did before, cooking became such an important part of my life... I just got surprisingly better. I still struggle a little sometimes, because you just can't stop feeling. I wrote some new year's resolutions with which ones I been feeling very productive and, most important, happy. I share you this story because I want you to not feel so alone. I know this may just be a comment, but I mean it so much. Also for everyone who has been heartbroken or has felt any other kind of pain and think they maybe never get up... It is posible, just find your way. Let's keep up working everyday on this ship. Also, please forgive my english if there's any mistake, haha, again, I'm mexican.
Where are you studying University ? I'm from UNAM, I can tell you some stories about people that can't manage their lifes between uni and family. Focus on how John told us about making a medium point on the things you have to and the things you want to.

Love to watch a new video. At first I was wondering about the theme and was "Why do I want to know why John makes videos?" and of course I should have known better that this video was more than answering a simple question. Thank you for your honesty. For me your videos are special and unique, your style is one of a kind - and I watch a lot of RUclips. Be you, be always you, and if you sometimes don't know any better, than try something new, be brave and always believe in yourself.
Thank you so much for this video John. I'm about to go into my third year of Uni, and I still sometimes think that these past two years have been so wild, yet they have made me grow. It's comforting to know that people share your struggles too. Thank you for your vulnerability. Keep doing what makes you happy, no matter what it is.
This is just a silent viewer speaking for the first time. But I want to say, John, thank you for being so honest and transparent with your story. It's funny to think how I randomly came upon your Harvard day in the life video and ended up binge watching your content because it was just so captivating. I think when I say this, most people would agree with me: We love how you think and enjoy listening to your philosophies and thoughts! You've been an inspiration, and the content you post is quite motivating. You don't need to worry about pumping out content or keeping viewers happy because by being you and just sharing what comes from your mind, we are satisfied. Again, thank you for the awesome content and honesty, and I look forward to riding along on this journey!
Just looking back at this video 2 years later. This was a really inspiring video. It's definitely easy to get caught in the trap of focusing on growth and putting out consistent content before content you are passionate about. I will definitely keep this lesson in mind because even 6 videos in I feel the pressure to post every week instead of just focusing on making content I am passionate about. Thank you John, stay safe!
I love how you reflect over and organize your college life. As a college freshman, I am genuinely really happy but did't really feel fulfilled. I think I will start reflecting more to make my life even better! Love your videos! I can always relate to something you said.
I certainly relate to what u went through, good start of college, heartbreak in fall, tough time, search for meaning, goals and life suddenly feeling pointless. I really love ur channel. N thank God I found it.
I’ve been a follower ever since May of 2018, and I just want to say, as I’ve said before that your story and story telling resonates with me. I get inspired by your videos a lot, to make improvements in my own approach to life. So thank you for what you do and thank you for being you!
You have incredible insights and thoughts and what's most amazing is that you're just 19 years old. When I was 19 years old I was skipping school to play World of Warcraft lol. Just stay true to yourself and there's no telling how far you can go. People may have come for your great storytelling skills, but they'll stay because you're genuine. Liked and subscribed. :)
Honestly, I can relate to this quite a bit. I started a RUclips channel with a friend about tech and balancing school with hobbies and having the motivation to make the videos makes it a bit challenging, but I find myself continuously making videos. Your vids have given be a bigger perspective on life man, and helped me with school and everything. Keep up the good work!
John , you’re a great inspiration to me nonetheless. Your videos DOES give positive impact whether it is brought up to you or not . Upload whenever you want , we’re open to your videos which baffles me with multiple questions that I’ve never thought of. Regardless, thank you for your videos , to help the young ones like me to grow !
I am starting college this year, and I can say that you are one of my biggest inspirations. Beyond all the informative content that your videos hold, what actually makes them special is the refreshing vibe that they hold. I am excited about living college with passion, I am excited about life, thank you so much John from the bottom of my heart.
i relate to you so much. I started to follow you last year and I love them. But just care for yourself first and make sure that whatever you are doing, you enjoy it. I will always be there watching whenever you post. Cheer up.
Hi John! I love the new video! I was just accepted to the class of 2023 at Harvard and wanted to tell you how your videos were a big inspiration for me to apply :)
I really enjoyed watching this video. I've been watching this channel for a while now, and honestly I feel like this is one of the best videos you've uploaded. I'm majoring in Media & Arts, so I really appreciate the aesthetic cinematographic shots shown during each chapter, but I think what really made this video one of my favorites was the storytelling. It was raw, honest, and more importantly, relatable. I'm still in my freshman year of college, got a 4.0 the first semester, but I also wasn't that happy. To be honest, I'm still trying to find the balance between school and doing things I enjoy. But even though it may take me a while to figure everything out, this video gave me some encouragement to keep trying. Thanks for the video John.
Your videos are like a real film, they´re awesome. So happy to hear that you´re back, I love how real your videos are, that really inspires me Greetings from Mexico!
How had I missed this video? I love your channel because it's like watching a movie film, not just easy to consume videos. You got style of telling things.
Ahhh John, I can relate with you so much. i immigrated from europe to finish my medical studies, at same time i was heartbroken. i basically left my country, my family, my uni for my boyfriend that dumped me right before my flight to usa. i still came. I was depressed, i got a job but I was just existing, i wasnt living. I was in limbo for few years. Now im back to school and on my way to apply for medical school. I always wanted to be doctor and help others. At same time i was always passionate about social media. But i needed to have something substantial. Like school and a degree. I m still struggling some days. But never give up on your dreams and passions. Keep close your family and friends that you love by heart. Keep going. You are a great man. And yes your videos are super helpful. Even this video helped to reflect on years that i wasted for nothing. But those years helped to grow so much. That i see my straight line like never before. I hope one day to meet you in person. Ps. I am thinking of applying to harvard med school! Have a great year!
We all love you John. Hard to say what it’s felt like to carry a lot of attention as a college student, but you manage it so well. It’s totally fine that if you want to make video whenever you want, it’s your life and choice, I just simply enjoy every video you make.
I've gone through a lot of these similar stages trying to make RUclips videos. Sometimes I just don't enjoy it anymore and feel like I could be doing something more productive. Then I always see people telling me how much my videos mean to them and it usually puts me back on the right track. Thanks for opening up and sharing your story!
Loving the Unfortunate Events-inspired chapter titles haha. Also definitely relate to the "no matter how hard you work, feeling like you're not doing what you want to do." Sophomore fall is also just a tough time at Harvard, even without personal/relationship matters. Keep doing you, really like this recent content!
I was very excited to see your video when the notification showed up! I only watched few videos of you, but somehow when you disappeared, it made me worried somewhere back in my head! We like your videos because of your personality more than anything!
John Fish, what ever you create is yours. It is made because you want to express something. I don’t want you to feel like you have to pump out “content” just for the sake of it. When ever you create something and show it to us, we will be back to see it!:)
I genuinely love watching your videos from the beginning. I'm sorry to hear that things went so wonky for you in 2018. I hope 2019 goes better and hope to see more content from you. Keep warm
You seem like a very kind person, John. I really enjoy the content you produce and hope that one day we'll get to shake hands and share some ideas. Don't stop inspiring people and keep "swimming"! 🐉 Love everyone!
First I want to say That this was thorough, had Great structure and was just simply beautiful (A+). now That the Harvard buzz is delivered, I just want to express to you How beautifully you described the «RUclips experience». Especially for those of us That just want to tell a story and express ourselves. I think the majority of us start out with the same ambition «it is all about fun and creating content you like», but for each subscriber and like, it is hard to not let the appreciation of people turn into pressure by those very same people. Having an audience, Even an audience of 50 subs is Great but can Also be terrifying. Obviously you feel That more than the majority of fresh youtubers because of your large audience, I literally have 1/3033 of your audience. At the end of the day, it is all about the story. That is the goal, and the obstacle is everything trying to make you forget that fact. And I think you expressed That beautifully.
Loved this video from the structure to the storytelling to the message...so much truth. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and I can't wait to see where you take this channel! With that being said, hey John! I'm a student/RUclipsr at Boston College and would love to connect with you!
Hey John, I DO enjoy watching your videos, specially when you are talking about something specific like your goals, passions, lessons and more. I missed your videos on Christmas. Hope one day I can meet you up in the USA. I wish you only the best. GREAT THAT FINALLY YOU ARE BACK!

Dude, I just want to say that you inspire me. I read it again and created the habit of setting goals to organize my academic life. Your videos make me more productive. Thanks man (I'm sorry for my bad english)
This video is so inspirational, you are a great role model for everyone. I think everyone should watch you and it could help a lot of people out with your advice! Keep up your great work!!! You helped “My Channel”
Hi John! Was so happy to see that you posted a new video 😍 I really love watching your videos. You are very different from so many youtubers and I think you have a very unique voice/perspective. I also LOVE your book recommendations, maybe you could make some videos about the books you‘ve read and do some reviews? I dunno, I‘d definitely watch 🤷🏼♀️😄 Glad you‘re back and doing better! 💕
13:13 don't be sorry Mr Fish. We all live incredibly complex lives when you meditate on it and your ability to convey the confusion we all experience, and in such a well edited video, makes for a very relatable story. Don't underestimate the ordinary person's ability to comprehend the depths in which I sense you swim :)
Thank you for telling your story. Your videos - especially the recent one about meaning - continually encourage me. I'm a college student too (not at Harvard, lol) and have a hard finding that long term, macro motivation. Learning how to do things like study and design a dorm room keeps my head in the game and has been a serious blessing. Cheers! I have a feeling 2019 is going to be one of the best years.
Love you! Since I saw ur videos, u became in my inspiration, every time things don’t go well in school, I remember the things I want to achieve, and thanks to your videos I get that feeling of tranquility, you really are a genius! Greetings from Lima, Peru 🇵🇪
I'f been waiting on a video from you so eagerly. Finally, when I saw it was released, my heart skipped a beat. Love from Nepal. John. You're a big inspiration.😊
Love this video. A lot of people go through this struggle of finding fulfillment on a daily basis, and I love that you're doing your best to help people find that personally, and also being transparent about your struggle to do the same.
Oh I have another suggestion, if you want to connect with your viewers more, you can start a discord server chat for your viewers. You don't to chat on it all the time, it can be only occasional, it will allow you to make announcements to your viewers easily, you can create different sections, for example, one section for book discussions, one for study tips, and so on, so your viewers can discuss those topics. You might be amazed by the support system the viewers can offer and help each other and between the viewers and you as well. You can can turn off notifications so it won't distract you. I also recommend a book called upward spiral, its about depression but it really applies for people with or without depression, a very scientific and fascinating read about the brain and to create an upward spiral. Good luck!
I've dealt with minor depression when your channel started to blow up, your videos helped me alot to get back into the flow, i started reading books (which i never really did before, and i also stopped doing it) keep up your work i'll always be watching and yeah have nice 2019! Uhh also, i like the livestreaming idea!
This video was so beautifully made, John. Thank you for speaking so personally and vulnerably!! It’s difficult to recognize and accept lack of fulfillment, especially as it is concurrent with outward success.
Love this video John! I’ve been binging your videos since you haven’t been posting so much lately. Didn’t realize you were from Waterloo! I’m from Newmarket, north of Toronto. Glad you’re back and found your passion again, can’t wait to see what you create this year!
About collabs I highly recommend you check "simon clarks", an oxford graduate and "steminine" an engineer graduate, they are both great youtubers and think they fit somehow with your style of videos
Great video John. Even though it seems like you have had some hard times, you are using it well for a mental rebirth. Excited to see what is next for you this year!
John, I've missed you! I've been feeling so awful lately. I've been losing ground in some of my courses and I really want to do well so that I can get into my top universities. I've been feeling so exhausted, and how you put it, I feel like lots of things have been pointless recently. But thank you for making this. It made me feel a bit better and I think I'm going to go study for my upcoming exams. I'm sorry that your relationship didn't end up working out but I'm glad you're doing good. I know we didn't see it much but I did look up to the relationship you guys had if that counts for anything.

I’ve been a follower ever since May of 2018, and I just want to say, as I’ve said before that your story and story telling resonates with me. I get inspired by your videos a lot, to make improvements in my own approach to life. So thank you for what you do and thank you for being you!
I'm twice your age but you always inspire me. 👍
No need to be broken John..464,938 of us support u!! .. ur video content is always so nice..🖤
Cheer up.
My growth book came today I’m so excited to use it!! It’s so nice I haven’t even taken it out of the plastic seal THANKS JOHN!!!!!
So happy to hear that you´re back, I love how real your videos are, that really inspires me
Greetings from Mexico!
I had been waiting so long for a new video! Thank you so much for what you give us, you are a true model! And your videos are awesome!
Had to see the whole thing twice to let is absorb and sink in. Never thought I'd feel heartbroken because of someone else's heartbreak. Good work mate
I could not stop watching this video...and I’m gettin one of those books
The real MVP right here folks
I did waiting on me
Mine
Thanks for all the inspiration.
It really helps.
Don’t know how I ended up finding your channel but I’m glad I did, enjoy your vids keep it up bro!
I'm glad you found what you want for the channel this year. I loved the little chapter title cut offs. Good luck completing your goals :)
This is one of you’re best videos, it’s good that you’re now only making videos you love to make !
It feels good to know this when I've been watching your videos for quite a while.
I was very excited to see your video when the notification showed up! I only watched few videos of you, but somehow when you disappeared, it made me worried somewhere back in my head! We like your videos because of your personality more than anything!
I have that exact diffuser! Your content is always much appreciated and I can't wait to see you grow as a creator.
You're an inspiration to myself to follow your lead and do what I want and love to do! Thank you!
John Fish, what ever you create is yours. It is made because you want to express something. I don’t want you to feel like you have to pump out “content” just for the sake of it. When ever you create something and show it to us, we will be back to see it!:)
john please upload more, your content is just too good
I genuinely love watching your videos from the beginning.

Hey John, feels great to have you back! I just wanted to let you know that you aire a really big inspiration for me. Wish you the best, man!
Loved this video from the structure to the storytelling to the message...so much truth. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and I can't wait to see where you take this channel!
With that being said, hey John! I'm a student/RUclipsr at Boston College and would love to connect with you!
Thanks John I really love your videos. Your perspectives are so inspiring.
I like a lot how real you are and that you speak from your heart! Keep it up!

I’m so glad that you’re back!! you and your videos are so inspiring!
I'm trying to read a book week John! I'm two books into 2019. Thanks for inspiring me!

This is such an amazing video. The fact that you're opening up like this is extremely brave. Keep doing what you're doing John!!!
You are so inspiring in so many ways. How you motivate yourself and know what you are doing that is wrong or correct. You are simply amazing. 🤠
This video was so beautifully made, John. Thank you for speaking so personally and vulnerably!! It’s difficult to recognize and accept lack of fulfillment, especially as it is concurrent with outward success.
Thanks for sharing how you were feeling personally and also what u want to upload on youtube Isn`t that the most beautiful eyes
so excited the book is back online cuz if anyone can get my life together, it’s you bro
Love the honesty and story telling aspect.
Love this video John! I’ve been binging your videos since you haven’t been posting so much lately. Didn’t realize you were from
Waterloo! I’m from Newmarket, north of Toronto. Glad you’re back and found your passion again, can’t wait to see what you create this year!
About collabs
I highly recommend you check "simon clarks", an oxford graduate and "steminine" an engineer graduate, they are both great youtubers and think they fit somehow with your style of videos
I'm impressed with this video I'm just speechless, you're great and the way you said the story and the edit, Everything is perfect, I love you so much ❤
Welcome back john! I love watching ur videos ❤️ l’m so happy that u’re back
