Totally wrong approach to understanding a country's military strength.
These guys are only measuring the military numbers on paper.
They are not taking an holistic approach of how modern warfare works.
This is the very reason why Nato and Ukraine got in trouble with Russia.
The true measurement of a country's military strength involves their industrial manufacturing capacity, population size, technology access to natural resources.
In a big conflict between two peer competitors these are the factors that dictate who will win the conflict or not.
Furthermore, China and the United States cannot go to war with each other because such a conflict will result in a nuclear exchange in which neither party will win.
    They will both lose.
But when it comes to conventional power
China's industrial capacity is not only larger than the United States.
China's industrial manufacturing capacity is larger than the next 9 countries combined.
This reflects in each country's ship building capabilities.
The United States only manufactures about 100 000 tones of shipping a year.
China manufactures 23 million tonnes of shipping a year.
That is right China's manufacturers 200x more shipping than the United States.
Graduates 7x more Stems than the United States.
China's population is 4x larger than the United States.
This means thst if the United States and China theoretically go to war with each other China will mobilize its entire industrial manufacturing capacity to out manufacture the United States in warships, missiles, warplanes, drones and ammunition into oblivion.
China will also be able to mobilize tens of millions of men into military service more than the United States.
In terms or technology, even though the United States has a little slight edge over China America's de-industrialization over the last decades have left it with some very serious handicaps.
Just a few months ago Pentagon officials testified before congress that 40% of all semi conductors used in US weapons are manufacturered in China.
The other remaining 60%, a lot of them are manufacturered in Taiwan.
Furthermore, 90% of all rare earths and many other raw materials used to make critical components in US weapons are either produced or are processed in China.
Even a lot of the cotton used in many US artillery pieces comes from China.
Without Chinese manufacturing and industries US military industrial complex and contractors cannot build or manufacture key components in many of their most sophisticated weapons.
Yes, I am talking to you, F-35.
In terms of natural resources both countries are about even.
The United States has an endless supply of natural resources. It can also gather whatever it needs from Canada and Mexico.
    But so does China.
China can gather tremendous natural resources from itself, Russia, the Central Asian countries and through Eurasia by sea and by land.
Furthermore, Chinese military does not suffer from a shortage of men and women.
Every year for every 1 spot in the PLA there are 3 applicants.
China has more applicants than positions in the PLA.
Joining the PLA is a highly prestigious job for young Chinese men and women. Many of the new recruits are highly educated and only the best are chosen.
The US military on the other hand cannot meet its recruitment numbers and quotas even in peace time.
All US military branches with the exception of the Marine corps are understaffed.
All together they were short by 44 000 volunteers this year alone.
As a result the US navy is going to retire dozens and dozens of ships because they can't recruit enough people to sail in them.
Moreover, Americans would never ever accept being drafted to go fight in a war anymore.
These people went crazy during the pandemic just because the government asked them to wear a mask and take a vaccine.
Do you really think if there was a war they would allow themselves to be drafted and conscripted into the United States military to go fight overseas like their grandfathers and great grandparents did.
There would be riots and protests everywhere if they brought the draft back.
There would be a civil war.
They don't even want to join the military in peace time.
Furthermore, many of them are obese and seriously overweight.
The vast majority of American 18 to 24 year olds are not fit for military service.

      @macrobian89 День назад +5

@@jefferyshute6641 it's all real, not emotional outbursts, remember the US government itself said that obesity was a national security threat some time back.
Instead of taking it as an attack, it should be taken as constructive criticism that shines a light on the shortcomings and lead to steps being taken to correct them. Unfortunately all Western countries (EU and US) see everything as a challenge to their strength and ignore reality.

China does not aspire to be a *global* military superpower. It has no intention of serving as the "world cop."
Therefore, China will not build hundreds of foreign military bases like the USA has.
China's military is focused on two things:
    1. National and regional security (East Asia).
    2. Protecting its interests in BRI projects around the world.
This can be achieved with a massive navy and a very effective A2/AD strategy (using China's rocket force).
China is building supercarriers. The Type 003 Fujian is expected to go into service next year, while the nuclear-powered Type 004 is under construction. The Type 004 should easily match the USS Gerald R. Ford.
China already has some of the most powerful warships in the world, such as the Type 055 heavy destroyer and the Type 052D destroyer.
China has operational hypersonic missiles (even the USA doesn't). The DF-26 is called a "carrier killer."
China has some of the most advanced stealth aircraft, such as the J-20 and J-35 fighters, and the upcoming H-20 bomber.
Beyond national and regional defense, China will not be like the USA militarily.

Let's look at this scenario, Taiwan has to trade to survive. Which shipping line would take this risk, if China declares a shipping blockage against the island? To break the blockage, US and gang will be forced to act first and China will be justified to retaliate. I believe Xi does not want to be branded with blood in his hand for starting the conflict.

uS seems to be reluctant to confront China as a military force if it is one on one. If the US 14:27 thinks ithas overwhelming power over China, the US will definitely push for Taiwan to declare independence. On the contrary, even though China has never fought a war, China is firm and has enough military power to take Taiwan back.

I think you guys seriously underestimate the US military. I can assure you, firsthand, that the US Navy does not fear the Chinese. The US once chased the principle of the "Art of War" after Viet Nam, but long ago surpassed it. The US miliary have turned warfare into a science and the US military are a machine. For those who thought the shock and awe of Desert Storm was impressive, and it certainly scared the Chinese, wait until the US military has to perform at that level again. It will blow your mind. The US revolutionized the Ukraine war with ATACMS and that is old 80's US tech. The US has weapons no one has yet seen on the battlefield. Current lethality is much higher and more efficient.
Chinese tech is 90% stolen from western countries and like most copies, poor. Last year Chinese missile forces were rated at 60% effective and that was optimistic.

There came into being the trilateral partnership between the US, Japan and South Korea. This is new. A very strong block.
Japan, which had been reluctant to take an active role in confronting China, is now increasing its military spending to 2% of GDP.
Japan now has allowed the US Marines Japan to deploy the medium range capabilities(such as land-launched Tomahawks with more than 2,400 km range).
South Korea’s indigenous weapons are becoming more and more fatal, almost to the level of ‘disruptive’. (The US has not been too keen to arm the US Forces Korea with disruptive weapons, nor to sell such weapons to SK. ..SK is too close to the heart of China; if the US put such weapons in SK, either by arming the US Forces Korea or by selling to SK, the situation might become too escalatory... For the time being, SK's initiative is enough. This discrepancy between the interest of the US and that of SK is one of the drives which have developed the so-called K-weapons.)
The Philippines has allowed the US Army’s medium range capabilities (Typhon’s MRCs) to be deployed in Lozon, which is an island just south of Taiwan.
You may say that the US, Japan, South Korea and Australia (and Taiwan) are effectively deterring China, with the help of the Philippines, Malaysia are becoming active and even Vietnam is looking for a virtual alliance. I would call the US, Japan, South Korea and Australia (and Taiwan) ‘the four plus one’.(the 4+1)
I think the 4+1 is becoming stronger and stronger.

Well, let the show begins! Maybe for the time being, let us wait for the final outcome at Ukraine, where the show is coming to a close. I don't think the reservists would be called or needed. And for sure the next war will not depend on the number of soldiers available. Why would a country spend so much in hypersonic missiles if they can not serve the interests of the nation? Maybe we should just wait for Putin's next show, would it be a curtain riser for China's performance? Let's wait!
