i lived in an off grid village in southeast asia for years - didnt have access to many products - quickly realized same about skin care. use NOThing. pple always say i have great skin (im in 60s)....& have used nothing my entire life 🙃...i agree 100%
About 10 years ago, my sister was wearing a pair of the cheap bargain flip flops and she slipped and fell down a flight of stairs that were slightly wet from the rain. She had to have surgery and had 16 metal parts put into her ankle and ended up with a bad infection. In the long run, she did not save any money since she was out of work for so long, got behind on paying her bills, and her ankle will never be the same. A bargain isn't always a bargain! I refuse to wear them!
My apartment building has a table out in the dining area of the building (this is a senior apartment building) called "the free table" where you could put out things you don't use any more on that for people to take for free....This saves everybody a ton of time, money, grief, and a ton of trips to the the store!!!! That could give you a bit of an idea....👍👍👍👍💯💯💯💯
Ours is not a poor church, but neither are we in the lap of luxury. I may suggest the free table idea to our elders. Have a space where we can share unused items and anything that is unclaimed in 2-3 weeks can then be donated to a local shelter or thrift store. 🤔
Another use for witch hazel is for the other end. If you have a sore bum from being sick with diarrhea or hemorrhoids witch hazel will reduce the swelling/pain. Also worked on lady parts after child birth. It has lots of uses.
My teenagers use it on acne too. It will reduce the swelling, redness and size so the pimples will dry up and stay gone. It really helps my daughter to wash her face and to dab some on a problem area. Having a pimple free face is a extreme confidence booster during those hard years when your body seems to be fighting you with unstable hormones, sudden weight gain and growth. Kids can be so mean to each other at this age and keeping that acne to a minimum really seems to help them.
I forgot about this until you mentioned using witch hazel on your bum.Witch hazel is actually the main ingredient in the Tucks pads that they sell for hemorrhoids. They also sometimes give them to you in the hospital after you’ve had a baby to ease the pain and swelling. I have not priced them in years, but Tucks pads are much more expensive than a bottle of witch hazel and a cloth.
One random thing that saves me a surprising amount of money is that I don’t buy any pants or dresses unless they have pockets. It forces me to say no to a lot of otherwise cute clothes, but I know they ultimately won’t be practical for me and I won’t wear them as much.
I bought gowns last year from Walmart. I've worn this style for over 10 years. I liked them because they're slightly above the knee and all cotton. They changed the material and now they're a stretchy polyester which I'm not crazy about. But they redeemed themselves one day when l discovered they had slit pockets in the side seams. 🎉❤
I would like to comment on the dollar flip-flops and this is not a money, saving thing, but more a charity thing. Every year I go to the bin and get at least one size of every size in there and take them to our homeless shelter. They are always in desperate need for these to give to people in the shower area so they have some thing to protect their feet. if you have any spare money, please think about doing this in your area. Thank you, Brooke for some great money saving ideas❤
My son bought a pair of those $1.00 flip flops and believe me when I say he wore them until the wheels fell off😳! I was so amazed, he put those flops on and wore them daily and I can't believe how well they stood up. He must have gotten a lucky pair but he was so upset when he finally had to throw them away 😂! He even repaired them a few times and they still did well, unbelievable 😊!
When my son, now 26, was 2 years old I'd gotten him a toy he wanted but he lost his mind when he saw a Teletubby candy toy at the checkout. It was the first time he'd ever done that. I warned him and ended up giving the toy to the cashier and said we weren't getting that today. She fussed at me and told me I needed to buy that baby his toy. I told her to mind her own business. I'm not rewarding him for showing out in the checkout line. He'd ask for stuff growing up but never showed out like that in a store again. When I became a struggling single Mom when he was 7 he learned to go through coupons and sales papers with me before I went grocery shopping. If he could match up a good coupon with a good sale price I was more than likely going to get it for him.
Oh my dear, I have used white vinegar as a fabric softener for years. It leaves the clothes smelling fresh, eliminates detergent build up and softens fabrics. People have asked me how I get my towels so soft and the answer is to wash them in cold water and use white vinegar as of rinse.. it's so inexpensive and works better than almost every other product I found. Good tips my friend!!!
Fabric softener hunks up the inside of your washer and can cause problems. I just dawn for washing and vinegary for rinsing. Dry clothes on hangers and just use drier for fluffing or at the end for certain items.
all of my kitchen items are second hand, cookware, prep, all of it. It may look expensive, but its second hand. I started a food pantry 3 years ago, and add to it, only buying milk, eggs, meat. No cable, fancy vacations, love camping, I cook one meal, freeze one, rotate them, I live on 975.00 per month.
We homeschool….for seasonal decor we make the construction paper chains to hang around the room. It counts as a craft & easy decor….using something we have anyway…and just use the “seasonal colors”.
Love your list here's mine--Empty nester household. No alcohol/cigarettes/vape No streaming services or subscriptions to computer programs, games or phone apps. No Dryer sheets, fabric softener No Bottled water No Paper napkins No holiday décor- a wreath for each season is all. No Rubbermaid food storage for leftovers, I have a few glass everything else goes in canning jars. No kitchen one trick ponies-all appliances and gadgets must pull their weight and do at least 3 things.
We’re already in a recession! People that deliver the food to grocery stores know this and have known. It’s fixing to get real bad! Make sure u have bought plenty of flour, rice, sugar, salt, water, peanut butter. I own two little debbie snack cake routes. I take care of 20 major grocery chains. Please take my advice. Do not get scared. They want you to be in fear. It’s easier for them to control their narrative. God bless and everyone have a great day!
@@FloridaSunshine904 So true about fear. When things are darkest, God kicks in. I recently had some trouble and things got thin. But I could see that it wasn't so bad, and things would get better. Panicking doesn't help.
One of the things I do to save money is make a list when I get in the store I go directly to those items (I don't go to any other isles) and get only what I have on that list.
I bought Walmart plus when they had it on sale for half price on Black Friday. So now I order about 90% of my groceries online. I feel that saves me money because I’m not tempted by anything I see in the store.
I don't have a car, and I started having groceries delivered after Long Haul got me. I figure the delivery plus tips are a lot less than I would pay for car, gas and insurance payments. I really appreciate the people who deliver.
Castor oil also works miracles on sore lady parts after childbirth. The midwives taught us this at the popular Birthing Center I worked at for almost 25 years.👶👶👶👶
We have nothing to RE SESS thats long gone. Im flexible i can adapt and do without almost everything. Poverty has taught me many things, needs and wants are vastly different and gratitude is key
I think we have been there for awhile. >We stopped buying soda, drinks, - we do koolaid type drinks and tea. >stopped buying bread products and bought flour and doing most of our own >send husband to store with grocery list, he doesn't wander > We shop our pantry and freezer first before shopping, meal planning. > we do a once a week out in the car, and double up when we can. > turned the heat to 66 just enough to keep pipes warm, everyone can put socks and sweaters. and God forbid the thousand blankets we have all over. Love your videos.
Btw, I'm so glad I found your channel. I learned simple country cooking from my mom & granny. Seasoning consisted of onions, bell pepperd snd bacon grease. I remember when mom discovered Lowery seasoned salt. Lol she put itnin everything. Loving all the cooking ideas!
My eight things 1. Wash my own car 2. Don’t eat fast food to expensive and not healthy 3. Eat left overs the next day 4. Make a budget and stick to it 5. Buy good shoes that will last a year or two 6. Keep your vehicle up on oil changes to last longer 7. Try to save $20 dollars or more a month 8. Shop dollar store on things that cost way more in regular stores but is the same product
Here’s are some tips that I have learned over the years. 1) Take a dryer sheet & cut it half. You can use half a sheet and get the same result as if you were using a full sheet. 2) Take 2 ice cube trays. Use one for egg whites only and the other for egg yolks. Freeze them, once they’re frozen place them (in separate bags) ziplock bags. Return to the freezer. 3) Mix your own taco seasoning mix, when you harvest your produce (or buy it from the supermarket) cut into strips or dice it. Place in ziplock bags and freeze. I freeze my bell peppers, onions and broccoli this way. 4) if you grow your own tomatoes, for the last picking collect as many green tomatoes as you can. Wrap the green tomatoes in newspaper, place into a box and put the box in the bottom of the refrigerator. Then during Thanksgiving and Christmas you’ll have fresh ripe home grown tomatoes. There might be a few bad ones, but there definitely will be some good ones! 5) If your washing machine is smelling yucky, pour half a cup of white vinegar in it. After it finishes filling with water, add half a box (more or less) of baking soda. Let it go for the complete cycle. I have more, but my meds are kicking in. Thank you for your patience and videos Brooke! If anyone wants an excellent stuffed shell recipe, let me know! I found one lately and my sons LOVE it!
I don’t spend money on new plant pots…..I love to garden and do it mainly in containers if I bought pretty planters and pots all the time I would have a small fortune in it. Instead I repurpose stuff me or someone I know is throwing away like a old turtle sandbox I found on a curb with a missing lid or a old busted up metal mesh wagon we had behind the shed I just lined it with bags and filled it with dirt. I will by pots but only at garage sales or thrift shops for $1 or less. I also don’t buy potting mix it’s cheaper to buy peat moss, top soil, and perlite and mix it myself I get way more for my money that way.
1) I stopped buying my daily iced coffee from the local coffee shop. I make a pot of coffee at home and refrigerate it. I saved $5/day and then some because I often bought a bagel or breakfast sandwich too. After a year I was able to pay off my credit card. 2) I no longer pay credit card interest. I pay it off every month. 3) I never buy soda.
I live in a studio in downtown Cincinnati I buy a front door hanging from Dollar Tree and I use an antenna I put in my window for local stations. This is from a girlie who worked 15 years at Time Warner Cable and had all the channels and DVRS. Tip if you have cable Internet drop down to the cheapest you won't see a different in speed. There is no such thing as different cable line or fibrotic lines.
BROOKE, I just had a birthday. I got new, heavy casserole pans from Ross. They are just what I asked for to feed this family of 8. Less than $12 for both, retail was over $65. I'm happy and excited about my presents. Can't wait to use them this week. A need not a want. ❤
Thank you, Brooke! Another reason I do delivery or pick up. I only get what's on the list. Have a glorious day and be blessed always, my Southerland Squad! xoxo
Witch Hazel is not a humectant so it would not 'moisturize' your face..it is a replacement for alcohol based toners.. if you need a humectant .. castor oil, hyaluronic acid, or food grade glycerine mixed 50 /50 in a spray bottle with water are all cheap alternatives
I am just now getting a chance to watch your video.... if people want the "fabric softener " smell, you can get essential oil and put a few drops on your wool balls. Works great!
I order a lot off of Amazon because I don’t have to leave my house to get it. And they usually are cheaper…. I’ve been in the grocery store or Walmart and compared prices and ended up ordering it online (because I have prime I can be petty like that).
Back when my kids were small, they had too many toys (generous grandparents). One day, I took paper grocery sacks into their rooms and bagged up toys. I left their favorites that they slept with and enough for them to play with, but I took 2-3 bags from each room. I wrote their names on the bags then put them in the top of my closet. A few months later we were at the store and they were begging for new toys so I told them I had a surprise at home for them. I gave them each one bag and told them they had to refill the bag with the toys they were tired of. We swapped those toy bags back and forth every few months for years and they only got new toys at Christmas and birthdays. They were happy and I never had to deal with the begging at the stores after that.
I don't buy Wal-Mart shoes. I don't buy fabric softener. I do but Christmas decorations after Christmas, I love 75% off. I will not purchase big price things until I have the chance to look for things at thrifts stores. I bought my daughter a 500.00 drafting desk at a thrift store for 50.00.
Maybe a Depression. We have been in a recession for 2 years now. Inflation job layoff’s businesses closing doors forever. You have good advise on how to save. Been doing most of them for over a year now. Take care of you and the family
Hi 👋🏽 all! 2 things I wanted to add. Fabric softener is terrible for towels- makes them less absorbent. As a black woman I do need lotion but honestly for my face I just use ponds or oil of Olay- whichever is on sale and lasts a long time! Love your channel! 🎉
I think we are in a recession now . Been told we will go thru a type of depression not like 1920 but will still affect our households . Your ideas are so important. Saving as much as you can is important. Use the dryer balls with a few drops of herbal oil on them in the scent you like . 😊
Skin care- avocado oil, almond oil, flaxseed oil- a bottle will last MONTHS and because oils expire- you can find these oils marked down at the more expensive grocery stores. I've bought bottles marked down to $1.50 Also, not a flip flop girl- slides last way longer and so much more comfy. I've had a pair of slides for over 10 years now, still look new.
I never used paper towels until my sons begged me to get some when I was 55 I never buy dryer sheets or softener either My sons begged me to use the dishwasher when I was in my 50's and I finally broke down and did. I wash dishes by hand now, though. I used to reuse coffee grounds. I would get two pots for one filter. I still use a drip coffee pot and refused to used those expensive little cup thingies. I only go out to eat a couple times a year, otherwise I cook everything. I started cooking at 12 for the family and at 77, I am not interested in being in public so some jerk can take my purse or give me covid, I shop second hand clothing stores, consignment shops and always have done so I never had an expensive car. Until now. My one son is buying me the car I drive now and it's a doozy! My three granddaughters fit in it great. My son told me that no one had ever done anything really nice for me and he wanted me to have the car. Each of my boys have told me when they were around 20 that they appreciated everything I did for them and thanked me. My oldest son is a master welder and youngest son is vice president of a steel company. I can die happy now.
Haven't purchased paper towels, paper plates, paper napkins, fabric softener or fabric sheets for about the last ten years. Try to limit any one time use products, do occasionally purchase small packages of bottled water to keep one on the lawn mower, but do refill with tap water for several uses.
We’re in a recession in New Zealand, I can’t afford sky etc. No takeaways, hardly any meat. Fresh vegetables are so expensive, last summer cauliflowers were over $11. Small packet of salad mix 150 grams $4. Vit c for the face $12 but lasts a very long time from the Wharehouse it’s in a pump bottle. Works really good for your skin. I do my own decor , I go to art CENTER’s and buy stuff on sale.
Let's face it skin Care products not needed why because no matter what your going to get wrinkles we all get old . Make-up I don't buy it and who needs it we are all pretty inside and outside. Never buy new I go to thrift stores. I dont go to restaurants cost to much money that could be put to better use . God Bless you and your Family 🙏
I buy the $1 flip-flops and take the top part off, then crochet around the soul and make slippers or sandals out of them. I'm like you if I don't need it I don't buy it. Love the channel and the family. Bless ya'll
@@carolgladney9890I use different things but mostly I use a 2.0mm needle or a plastic canvas metal needle. With arthritis in my hands I sometimes use a candle to heat up the needles to push through easier.
I agree with you on the dryer sheets and fabric softener, I also use dryer balls but I only use the tumble dryer to dry towels, I dry everything else either outside or indoors on a rack. If you haven't got dryer balls, scrunched up aluminium foil works just as well. I got rid of my large double oven, why use 3 - 5KWof power to bake a casserole. I have a convention/combi oven and a couple of air fryers. I only pay for netflix, here in the uk its £10 a month. I no longer have a house phone as our mobiles have free calls and texts. We only decorate for christmas. loads of things I've done to save money and protect the environment. Great video Brooke xxx
Brooke I started using coconut oil on my whole body. Face legs arms stomach and butt. I am 62 and everyone said I look in my 40. After shower dry off and I take the coconut solid oil rub in hands and put all over. I don't have the winkle's other have at my age on my face.
I just discovered your channel today so I'm sure there are many videos to catch up on. I will definitely try the vinegar in laundry and also the witch hazel. I live in the southwest where humidity sometimes is in the single digits so dry skin is common where I live.
In my opinion we’ve been in a recession for over a year. The government just keeps changing the definition. Inflation is about to go through the roof. Hope everyone has a stocked pantry
@@stormyweather2807 Unemployment numbers are a lie. They don’t include the people who have exited the unemployment system and still haven’t found work. The numbers also don’t include the amount of people who retired early, a lot by force, who aren’t eligible for unemployment because they signed a retirement package. The numbers don’t include the people who are just skating by doing their own hustle for cash to get by living with friends, family or in their vehicles. Unemployment numbers are what the government (either party in power) want us to see. Same with the inflation numbers. Ha! They say that inflation is going down and cheer, cheer, cheer for them. Such BS! If you double the price of an item and then take it down 10%, should we celebrate the 10% off? I think NOT.
@@LindaASJ those workers are captured in the BLS underemployment rate, which last I saw was between 7-8%. Pretty good considering college graduate underemployment rates are nearly 40% and skew the average. We have businesses, mostly service related, that can't open more than 3 days a week because of lack of workers. Nursing homes are struggling. When our paper mill closed suddenly, non-service job fairs popped up every other week. And if the high cost of goods is due to inflation, why are corporation's profits skyrocketing? Inflation would be affecting those profit margins as well.
At Christmas I have snowmen decorations in the house. When I put away the Christmas stuff the snow men can stay out till winter is over. In the fall I have scarecrow and pumpkin things in the house, they can be put out the end of September and stay out til the first of December. I like small wooden things, so they do not take up much room in the storage area. A few items in a strategic place are all you need. less is more.
Ya know.... I watch you at night when I'm cooking . It's like having my friend in the kitchen with me and we are chatting about all kinds of stuff. Thanks for coming over lol
Love your videos. Witch hazel is awesome. Been using it since a teenager. When my kids were getting some acne breakouts got out the witch hazel. Oldest grandson uses it now too.
Panco Bread Crumbs... Instead of taking the butt ends of bread, toast them and allow them to cool from the toaster, then put in the food processor and blend add Italian Seasoning or whatever seasoning you prefer and put them in a Canning jar. Amazing those will last at least 6 months or more.. I store mine in a cabinet and live in Ohio, different climates may give different results for length of storage time. Anna In Ohio
In relation to skin creams, from Ireland, don’t know if it’s called the same over there Silcocks base. When my mammy was having radiation her skin got sore, a dermatologist told her everyone should just use it instead, it is the base of most creams, only need a little at a time, much cheaper then fancy creams , less chemicals in it too !
Excellent tips. I have a couple as well. Unplug all counter top appliances when not in use. They don't use much electricity when turned off, but they still leach a little bit. Switch to LED light bulbs. We use the daylight bulbs in the living room. A 100 watt bulb only uses 23 kilowatts of electricity. Also, turn lights off when you leave a room. Wash your car by hand instead of going to the car wash. This would be great for the boys to do, especially if you gave them a few dollars of pocket money for it. Thanks for a great video. I hope some of my tips can help you or some subscribers to save money. Recession or not, we all need to cut corners where we can. Blessings to you and your family.
I have to buy vinegar or fabric softener because I won't spend money on a dryer. We had a rat delivered in our dryer back in 2015. Will not take my chances of that again . Brand new dryer. Nope I have clothes lines. Thank you so much for your inexpensive meals. Love them !
Amen to the clothesline! When you line dry indoors during the winter, it helps add humidity to your home. Clothes dried outside smell wonderful! My dryer broke a few years ago and I'm doing just fine without it.
I know. People are missing out on that wonderful smell and I also think some fabrics dry wrinkle free. But I love to iron too. The new ways aren't always the best. I would be lost without my iron. My grandma would roll over in her grave if she saw what some of her relatives were wearing. She even ironed my grandpa's boxers and handkerchiefs.
I refuse to get Amazon Prime. If I need to order from Amazon I wait until it's enough to amount to free shipping. It keeps me from impulse buying and I only end up making a couple of orders each year.
Don’t like smell of fabric softener and not good for towels. Have been using wool balls in dryer for 7 years. They’re great. Also use laundry egg with pellets for washing. Cost about £4 for 50 washes.Saved loads of money. We are in recession here in UK. Not good😮. Thanks for your tips.x
I bought a pair of gray and white addidas flip flops on sale for $60 over 10 years ago. I still have them and use them when I garden. They have thick cushion and feel great! I felt horrible spending that much on flip flops...but I have gotten my money's worth for sure. Those $1 flip flops hate people.
I just LOVE your logic!!! We all have these impulse buys or these items that we pay for over and over again and realize that we really don’t need! Thank you for bringing this to our attention and I am guilty but I will do better going forward because of this video Brooke! 💗💗💗
We don’t buy paper towels or paper napkins. Cloth napkins, tea towels or any other reusable cloth will work. If you need to drain grease off fried foods, use coffee filters. We have a Kureg coffeemaker and use the refillable pods instead of the single use pods. Currently we are trying to get away from dish network and start streaming.
Please do not use anything on your face or body that is petroleum based. Your body is the biggest organ and all those toxins seep into your blood stream. Use castor oil instead or even olive oil.
My skin is really dry. All I use for skincare is coconut oil, beef tallow cream, and beef tallow soap. The beef tallow is expensive, but it lasts a long time and I don't have to buy it often. It can be used to heal so many things too, and it's safe for dogs and babies (so you don't have to buy a bunch of baby creams). I also know exactly what ingredients are going on my skin now and I love that.
You, talking about the facial products reminded me of something my daughter-in-law taught me. She comes from a Hispanic family and I wonder if they learned it from folks who had come from Mexico who may not have the money to buy deodorant. So, she said: put Isopropyl alcohol on a cotton swab and wipe on your underarms to replace deodorant. So, I tried it and was amazed. It kept me sweat-free all day and at the end of the day, I still smelled like I did when I initially wiped my underarms with the alcohol. So, yes that original smell does smell like alcohol but, I don't mind the smell at all. And Wow what a cheap deodorant compared to my beloved Secret deodorant!
I’ve been doing this forever!! Deodorant has many toxic chemicals in it. Regular showers are a must. Alcohol kills the bacteria so you don’t need antiperspirant or deodorant.
I agree with you about the TV. I was spending about $225.90 a month for cable and did away with all the TV and only have fawsome, free TV,; roku❤,filrise and it dropped my bill by over $124.00 a month. What a saving, and I don't miss all of the crap I was paying for. 😂
Yes, witch hazel works great. I don't spend much on skincare and it's 100% organic. I use a moisturizer and a Vit C spray. I craft my decor and thrift things like your Aunt Vikki.
Brooke, I do not use face/body skin care products either... 99% of the time. But I have this issue every 3-4 of years, where my T-zone gets EXTRA dry and flaky. I will try the Witch hazel just to try it, but I found something 25 years ago that zapps my face and makes everything better in just a couple of days. Twenty years ago I thought this was extremely expensive. By Estee Lauder, it's called Revitalizing Supreme Anti Aging Cell Power Creme, and it cost me $65 for like 4 oz back then. I only bought it because my face was so dry. Yes, it took out of my budget back then, but that 4 oz lasted me 14 years! When I finally scraped the bottom of the jar and went to look for more at Dillards where I purchased the 2nd jar, it was a whopping $95! I bought it again because it lasted me so long before. I was 39 then and my daughter was 4. I figured by the time my second jar was gone, I would be in my 50's and probably not care anymore about that dry skin problem. But the second jar only lasted me 5 years. The reason? My then 8 y/o started digging into my stuff and saw a face cream and decided to use up over half the jar on her face! At 44, I decided that I wasn't going to replace it, but yes, my girl got a good talking to! It just so happened after that, I never had that problem again where dry skin on my face was a problem. It was at that point that I started using 100% spf sunscreen in the summer. So I guess I wanted to say that younger people who want to have golden skin? Use sunscreen!
Vinegar, removes soap residue in the laundry rinse. Witch Hazel is the best as a after a bath, I add essential oils for a light fragrance about 1/8 tsp. Is all you need.
We do a lot of these, too! I did buy my kids Lego, and that’s a lot of tiny pieces, but we had a system. They were played with in only one spot (living room carpet) got picked up before anyone stepped on them. Door decor: about ten years ago I bought two (for two doors) flat sheet metal star wreaths for winter and two leaf ones for summer. They weren’t very cheap, but they look exactly as they did when I got them. I’m planning on them lasting until I’m dead, and the durability mitigates any boredom I might think of feeling from having only these. For the win!
Girrrrrl!! You need to make that a T-shirt 😂🤭 "Impulse buys are the 😈!" I 💕 💕 💕 this collab and I'm so on board with these frugal sharing tips!! Keep up the amazing videos 💜😄 Have an amazing week!! See ya next video 👍🏼🤓
I cut out cable a few years ago and only use streaming savings of $58 a year, dryer sheets when I do use I cut in half but I use the liquid softener I get a big bottle at a wholesale club and lasts at least 3-4 months, I buy a big bottle of face lotion lasts me 1 1/2 years, Christmas decor I reuse kids Christmas ornaments they made in daycare and elementary school (now they are in middle and high school), my kids always use things around house as toys like when they played grocery store I gave them old containers from food we ate and drank already,
Loved your list! I dont buy- Paper towels Dryer sheets Single use water bottles Bags of ice Stuff at the front of the store Seasonal decor (unless the lights go out but you better believe I will figure out if I can fix them first!) Food out of the house A snack (eat before you leave!) Drinks out (reusable water bottle life!) Cheap shoes
Also my dad used to cut thin pieces from a log sand the edges put a clear coat on then put a photo on and another clear coat. I put flowers on one and he clear coated over it. Still have all these 30 years later and they're great memories!
I have several more practical money savers. 1. Energy saving light bulbs from DT. Saves me 30% on my electric bill every month. 2. Reusable everything! Mop heads sponges , paper towel replacement , storage bags etc if you can reuse it I use it. Groceries I use my flashflood app and save 50% or more on quality meats , produce and pantry items. It also reduces food waste. I compare car insurance rates every year because our car is a year older and someone will offer us a better deal. We don't eat out. That saves a lot.
I agree with fabric softener. Never have used it once. My clothes are always soft so not who doesn’t have soft clothes lol. I have to have season decor though. I’ve always dealt with anxiety/depression and so if I change my decor up with the seasons it just helps keep mentally plus I love to craft so alot of my decor I craft myself so it’s a win win for me. But I agree it’s a pain in the butt with storing. The ones I do buy I usually get at Michael’s or Hobby Lobby on sale & never pay full price.
I mourn the money I spent on cable or satellite tv. We waited way too long to get rid of it. I’m going with you on the blind bags. No more! We make decor out of school supplies if we put anything up. I agree with you on the rest.
I use Dial Antibacterial bar soap to wash my face. Yes it dries is out BUT I then use a small amount of gold bond eczema lotion all over my face and it works really well! I get acne bad as I have PCOS but ever since doing that I only occasionally get a pimple and that's usually during my period. I actually use the same tyoe soap for my whole body and hand soap as well. I also make my own holiday décor. I have made so much and they look great.
Thank you for your video. You are right about wasting a lot of money on those things. On certain things. Justin FYI, we both have the same throw pillow in our homes!
I’m with you! I use witch hazel and I use a good cold pressed olive oil in the bath or after shower to moisturize. If you get razor bumps, it’ll change your life!
I’v been using petroleum jelly for my sandpaper dry skin (not exaggerating) this year. I apply it at least twice a day. It works like a charm. This may not be practical if you have to wear makeup but use it as a night cream it may be all you need.

i lived in an off grid village in southeast asia for years - didnt have access to many products - quickly realized same about skin care. use NOThing. pple always say i have great skin (im in 60s)....& have used nothing my entire life 🙃...i agree 100%
I pay $1.07 a month for Hulu for 12 months. Some promotion I got
Yeah, I don't wear those.
Of course these things need to be in good and are not expired....👍👍👍👍💯💯💯💯
My mom's senior complex has free tables too. Works out well.
Ours is not a poor church, but neither are we in the lap of luxury.
I may suggest the free table idea to our elders.
Have a space where we can share unused items and anything that is unclaimed in 2-3 weeks can then be donated to a local shelter or thrift store.
🤔
Great idea, I think I'll try and implement that here. Thank you for that
That's great!
I like witch hazel for toner or light cleaning, but you’ll take my Olay and Mizon from my cold, dead hands.
Awesome ideal…. Thank you. ❤
I agree. making a contribute is great
Socks too…yes, even with flip flops wear socks.
I have not ever gotten lucky with $1 flip flops! They fall apart the first wearing! Don't waste your dollar on those.😮
When my son, now 26, was 2 years old I'd gotten him a toy he wanted but he lost his mind when he saw a Teletubby candy toy at the checkout.
No alcohol/cigarettes/vape
No streaming services or subscriptions to computer programs, games or phone apps.
No Dryer sheets, fabric softener
No Bottled water
No Paper napkins
No holiday décor- a wreath for each season is all.
I love this list!!
@@FloridaSunshine904 So true about fear. When things are darkest, God kicks in. I recently had some trouble and things got thin. But I could see that it wasn't so bad, and things would get better. Panicking doesn't help.
😊@@karen1866
One of the things I do to save money is make a list when I get in the store I go directly to those items (I don't go to any other isles) and get only what I have on that list.
I bought Walmart plus when they had it on sale for half price on Black Friday. So now I order about 90% of my groceries online. I feel that saves me money because I’m not tempted by anything I see in the store.
I don't have a car, and I started having groceries delivered after Long Haul got me. I figure the delivery plus tips are a lot less than I would pay for car, gas and insurance payments.
I really appreciate the people who deliver.
I never use the expensive skin care products. All I use is Castor Oil! It works great for soft, smooth skin! Plus, it's very inexpensive!
I love Castir Oil as well!!!
My mom told me about witch hazel years ago for my son's rough and bumpy skin. It is gentle and keeps his face clear. 😊
It is honestly THE BEST!!
I buy clothes and handbags second hand. I buy food or paper products at a salvage store or on sale. Take-out is maybe once a month. I follow a budget.
Love this drop down cable idea. This gives me ten bucks a month to put elsewhere. I don't need hi- speed anything, I had been wasting money.
Putting a dry towel in the dryer with wet clothes will help dry your clothes in half the time
Thank you
We use a fan and a clothesline, mostly. It works rather well, the machine spins the clothes pretty dry.
Fabric softener ruins your washer! We stopped using it a long time ago.
BROOKE, I just had a birthday. I got new, heavy casserole pans from Ross. They are just what I asked for to feed this family of 8. Less than $12 for both, retail was over $65. I'm happy and excited about my presents. Can't wait to use them this week. A need not a want. ❤
Love the conviction in your voice about the impulse buys. Hahahaha. I’m with you, Brooke. They need to get a grip with all that mess. 😂🤣
My favorite moisturizer is coconut oil from the grocery store oil section. I have dry skin and after a shower I put it on then dry my skin. So soft
Thank you, Brooke! Another reason I do delivery or pick up. I only get what's on the list. Have a glorious day and be blessed always, my Southerland Squad! xoxo
Yes!! It really helps with impulse buying!
@@SouthernFrugalMomma ❤
I stopped seasonal decor years ago and haven't looked back
Me too.😂👍🏼
Witch Hazel is not a humectant so it would not 'moisturize' your face..it is a replacement for alcohol based toners.. if you need a humectant .. castor oil, hyaluronic acid, or food grade glycerine mixed 50 /50 in a spray bottle with water are all cheap alternatives
I love your el-natural hair.
You go girl!!
I'm embracing the way God made me. 😉
Yeah and they’ll change their “definition “ but we already know. Groceries never lie
Absolutely!
Agreed 👍
I can't believe stores closing because of theft! It's like the whole west coast has lost its mind. No theft. No ridiculous locked up cases.
I've bought bottles marked down to $1.50
Also, not a flip flop girl- slides last way longer and so much more comfy. I've had a pair of slides for over 10 years now, still look new.
I never used paper towels until my sons begged me to get some when I was 55
I never buy dryer sheets or softener either
My sons begged me to use the dishwasher when I was in my 50's and I finally broke down and did. I wash dishes by hand now, though.
I used to reuse coffee grounds. I would get two pots for one filter.
I still use a drip coffee pot and refused to used those expensive little cup thingies.
I only go out to eat a couple times a year, otherwise I cook everything. I started cooking at 12 for the family and at 77, I am not interested in being in public so some jerk can take my purse or give me covid,
I shop second hand clothing stores, consignment shops and always have done so
I never had an expensive car.
I recommend going to estate sales for Christmas decor. You can get everything on the cheap!
I will pray for you because we are in Springfield MO in USA and we feel the pinch on groceries too AND our electricity has gone up too.
Bless ya'll
What do you use to make a hole for your hook, to pull yarn through? I would love to do that
@@carolgladney9890I use different things but mostly I use a 2.0mm needle or a plastic canvas metal needle.
I love witch hazel, coconut oil and beef tallow for my skin… so inexpensive and great for your skin!
I just discovered your channel today so I'm sure there are many videos to catch up on. I will definitely try the vinegar in laundry and also the witch hazel. I live in the southwest where humidity sometimes is in the single digits so dry skin is common where I live.
I found a few drops of essential oil, or even perfume oil, on the wool balls gives my clothes that yummy scent I miss from dryer sheets!
Diluted Selsium Blue Natural shampoo is a good facial cleaner and no moisturizer is needed. Will try the witchhazel. Witchazel is good for sunburns.
In my opinion we’ve been in a recession for over a year. The government just keeps changing the definition. Inflation is about to go through the roof. Hope everyone has a stocked pantry
True!
Yup, we’ve already hit a recession
We’re headed full into another Depression
With a 3.3% GDP last year and unemployment under 4% for the past 24 straight months...why do you think that?
I received hair conditioner that I don't use but used it on a cloth in the dryer as a fabric softener.
You are so sweet! You have encouraged us to be more frugal 🥰
I want you to run for President right now. Seriously.
Thank You for all of your great ideas love you and your Family I think your awesome enjoy the rest of your week 🤗😁❤️
I agree with your entire list. There are so many unnecessary things we all spend money that we could really do without. Great list!👍👍
Love your channel and you are so right about impulse buying at stores love your budget cooking videos thanks for sharing ❤❤
Panko crumbs are in a pretty big container at Dollar Tree. I would rather do that than spend my time making bread crumbs. Panko is crunchier!
I like using walmart pickup and Sams Club pick up, keeps me from over spending. Keeps the temptation at bay😊
Yessss agree on those blind bags.. I hate them. I also dont do seasonal decor. Its minimal if I do.
Dollar tree if you have to for seasonal decorating
I refuse to get Amazon Prime. If I need to order from Amazon I wait until it's enough to amount to free shipping. It keeps me from impulse buying and I only end up making a couple of orders each year.
me too.
If you're a Senior Prime is half price. You may want to check out.
Yes, we belong to group that gets us free prime. I buy for others.
Crocs flip-flops last forever, too! They're very cushioned also.
I just LOVE your logic!!! We all have these impulse buys or these items that we pay for over and over again and realize that we really don’t need! Thank you for bringing this to our attention and I am guilty but I will do better going forward because of this video Brooke! 💗💗💗
My mom loved using witch hazel on her face. It’s the real deal. Love, love, love your humor and excellent advice!
Creamy Vaseline, if you can find it at the Dollar Tree, is an awesome moisturizer.
Love, love, love secret powder scented deodorant but cannot afford it any more. Will try alcohol, thank you.😊
I’ve been doing this forever!! Deodorant has many toxic chemicals in it. Regular showers are a must. Alcohol kills the bacteria so you don’t need antiperspirant or deodorant.
Alcohol is also antibacterial.
Love Your Channel I grew up Using Hazel, this granny has a rule if it can't be used in many ways than it stays
Baby wipes from dollar general $1 aisle for my face.60 wipes with aloe .Works wonders.
There are times that when I'm feeling low I shop to make myself feel better but it often becomes buyer's regret the next day!

I do that too.
But when
I shop to feel better, it is off to the
Grocery store.😂
No guilt trips there.
I think you have GORGEOUS skin, so the witch hazel is obviously working!
I cut out cable a few years ago and only use streaming savings of $58 a year, dryer sheets when I do use I cut in half but I use the liquid softener I get a big bottle at a wholesale club and lasts at least 3-4 months, I buy a big bottle of face lotion lasts me 1 1/2 years, Christmas decor I reuse kids Christmas ornaments they made in daycare and elementary school (now they are in middle and high school), my kids always use things around house as toys like when they played grocery store I gave them old containers from food we ate and drank already,
In the UK we have laws that stop supermarkets stocking things around the checkouts that appeal to kids - now it is basically chewy and water!
Loved your list!
I dont buy-
Paper towels
Dryer sheets
Single use water bottles
Bags of ice
Stuff at the front of the store
Seasonal decor (unless the lights go out but you better believe I will figure out if I can fix them first!)
Food out of the house
A snack (eat before you leave!)
Drinks out (reusable water bottle life!)
Cheap shoes
Hi Brooke! Just came from Aunt Vickies channel, great suggestions on things to save money on..ty for sharing❤
I mourn the money I spent on cable or satellite tv. We waited way too long to get rid of it.
I’m going with you on the blind bags. No more!
We make decor out of school supplies if we put anything up.
I agree with you on the rest.
Preach, Sister! I love your videos! Thanks for sharing!
