  • This is a tribute to my favorite movie genre - classic screwball comedy. I've been working on this video for a long time and finally managed to finish it today so I'm feeling rather accomplished lol. I thoroughly enjoyed making this and I hope you will enjoy watching! :)
I absolutely love the classic screwball comedies of the 30's and 40's. They are indeed fascinating... funny, frenzied and full of crazy antics, witty dialogue and numerous quirks and mishaps. Also starring some of the finest comedy actors and actresses of the era - William Powell, Myrna Loy, Carole Lombard, Claudette Colbert, Cary Grant and Jean Arthur (to name just a few). For me, this is old Hollywood at its best :)
I've included clips from some of my favorites and some of the best known of the genre.
    Arsenic and Old Lace (1944)
    Ball of Fire (1941)
    Bluebeard's Eighth Wife (1938)
    Bringing Up Baby (1938)
    Design for Living (1933)
    Duck Soup (1932)
    Easy Living (1937)
    Hands Across The Table (1935)
    His Girl Friday (1940)
    Holiday (1938)
    I Love You Again (1940)
    It Happened One Night (1934)
    Libeled Lady (1936)
    Love Crazy (1941)
    Love on the Run (1936)
    Merrily We Live (1938)
    Mr and Mrs Smith (1941)
Mr Blandings Builds His Dream House (1948)
Mr Deeds Goes To Town (1936)
    My Favorite Wife (1940)
    My Man Godfrey (1936)
    Ninotchka (1939)
    Sullivan's Travels (1941)
    That Uncertain Feeling (1941)
    The Awful Truth (1937)
The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer (1947)
    The Ex-Mrs Bradford (1936)
    The Gay Divorcee (1934)
    The Lady Eve (1941)
    The Mad Miss Manton (1938)
The Major and the Minor (1942)
    The Merry Widow (1934)
    The More the Merrier (1943)
    The Palm Beach Story (1942)
    The Philadelphia Story (1940)
    Too Many Husbands (1940)
    Top Hat (1935)
    Trouble in Paradise (1932)
    Twentieth Century (1934)
    Vivacious Lady (1938)
You Can't Take It With You (1938)

OMFG. I am absolutely speechless. I had to watch this three times before I was able to attempt to articulate my feelings on this magnificent video. I am just blown away. I LOVED THIS SO SO SO MUCH. Honestly, I haven't enjoyed a video on RUclips THIS much in a long time. The mood, the song, the editing, the moments you chose- it's absolutely perfect and epitomizes why this is one of (if not) the best genre for classic films. Excuse me while I go watch this for a fourth (and fifth and sixth and seventh etc etc etc.) time. This is INCREDIBLE

Screwball or slapstick? Who cares! This is great. If you love this like I do, then you will love my Cary Grant ~ "A Class Act" Featuring Cary And His Leading Ladies Fan Group. The Leading Ladies are a recent addition to the page. They are all there, with films too. Come join it!

Can you help -What is the name of the screwball comedy with a dysfunctional family living in a big house, with an uncle who thinks he is still fighting the american civil war? been trying to think of the name for years - seen it 30 years ago, still think of it.

the examples you have are hallmarks of slapstick, not screwball. screwball has slapstick, physical moments- but what defines it is witty repartee, confusion of identity, wordplay and puns, irony and humour. good idea- but i think as a tribute its misplaced.

Your video would be wonderful if it weren't for the 80's style pop tune overlapping the entire thing. This would have been the perfect video for a classic swing number.

as usual rotten music to accompany clips, makes them very tiring to watch , detroys what greatness they might have had.
