I don't think you're translating this right. All I see is a lot of conjecture and theory, not backed up facts. Why would the Prince estate be so vague when they can communicate clearly? It most likely is what it is, the vault music is being released.
@@freeqtek This is a serious film maker who has spoken to the people who were there. He doesn't do hearsay or gossip. Or grift for that matter. He makes serious movies, in this case about an artist he deeply admires. Everybody already knows Prince was a troubled and complicated man in many ways: His struggling with commitment, his trust issues, his joining a rather severe Christian sect, and finally the addiction that killed him. I think Ezra Edelman is a strange choice to direct a documentary series about Prince a music genius. When Ezra Edelman is best known for directing a documentary about a man who was wife beater, a main suspect and most likely a murderer, and a convicted felon known as OJ Simpson. This documentary series about Prince was most likely a hit piece in which Prince would likely have a ? over his name where he becomes the separate the artist from the man etc crap. Prince no longer alive and can’t defend himself, because books and documentaries can say what they like about the dead, and the dead can’t sue. So Prince’s Estate with its flaws, have done the right thing killing the documentary series.
It means that the 500+ unreleased songs and 150+ music videos will finally be released. Prince never stopped recording, his whole house was wired for it, every room. So whenever he had an idea, he could reach out in that room, in the moment, and start recording directly into his own personal studio so no idea ever escaped him.
We can only pray that this means they have plans to release new music from the vault every couple of years! Prince wrote at least 1 new song a day for decades. Everyone talkes about his vault, truth is he had many vaults. Any odd corner ended up becoming a vault as the others filled up. Songs, videos, clothing, albums, photos, art work, bars of gold, and thousands of notebooks full of ideas for everything, and items from his son whose medical condition and death greatly disturbed him. He felt he was being punished by God for something. 💜 RIP Prince 💜 🕊 We will never have another as special as you! 🕊 💜
Exactly. What saddens me is that everyone wants to listen for selfish reasons and they don't care about the man behind the music. He had no choice in this, and the only reason they get to do any of this is because he is no longer here. It's an invasion of his personal work. He reserved this and didn't release it for a reason. I wish he were still here to make this choice.

I remember right at the beginning of the pandemic, Quest Love would DJ and tell stories from his home. One episode was called Quest Love's wrecka stow. It was awesome. Dude has endless stories from Motown to present day. Then copyright BS came into play, and the fun was over. But what a great couple months it was...
...I bought THREE copies of the "Black Album" in 'wrecka stows'!! ...unfortunately, NONE were the actual WB releases, but One had a REAL COOL black-shellacking of Prince's face on the cover with a retro 70's funk purple lettering hype sticker....I LOVED that copy! ...ha-HAA!
Don’t play with us…if that whole vault were to be released, all at once, I’d never need to listen to anything other than newly released Prince music…one after another. Each one better than the last. Until the day I passed. And I’m only 57. By the way, I’m an 80s Metal Head. But Prince has been my favorite since the moment I discovered him. The difference between Prince and every other artist is that Prince never recorded music the fans wanted to hear. The fans wanted to hear the music Prince recorded. And, my friends, there is a significant difference. And I must be clear, many of his tunes I needed to hear a couple of times to be sure I knew what I was hearing. The closest two musical bodies to Prince in that aspect that I found were Queen and Pink Floyd. Both I love, but nothing like I feel for what Prince presented to the world. Both Queen and Floyd worried too much about perfection while Prince gave us emotion and feel, and in that sense…perfection. After all…he was always Prince.
@@DannyGrcI think, given that he is not here with us anymore, he’d be more upset that no one would ever hear them at all. Prince told Kurt Loder of MTV. When asked about the vault "I'll give it away" I'm sure you can find the interview on here. Also, screw that salacious documentary. Prince was and is music and that is what the focus should be on.
Shelving the 9 hour doc by Ezra Edelman indefinitely likely means the Estate can now do three things: 1. release an SDE every year (they have Parade lined up) 2. release concerts upscaled to 4k for streaming and physical collectors editions 3. Make their own sanitised Netflix doc series from scratch Ezra Edelman’s doc will become legend and, just like some of the vault tracks, will one day get bootlegged. I’m thrilled we get more SDE sets (please make them like SOTT and D&P) and loads of concerts, but I really hope the estate tell as honest a story as possible about Prince in the doc and don’t skirt over the human story.
What makes you so sure Ezra Edelman’s documentary series isn’t a hit piece? ….I don’t mind an unbiased documentary series that shows Prince’s flaws as a man, but documentaries these days have an unhealthy obsession with trying to show criminal actions by famous music stars often with just hearsay and no actual real evidence.
@@benscr I trust Questlove’s opinion on it. If it was a hit piece, Questlove would have not have been so vocally supportive of it. But I also understand the viewpoint of the Estate because in the current climate the media would have twisted the documentary into cancelling Prince (or certainly trying to). Two sides to every story.

I'd rather see the documentary.😂😂 If the doc had have been released, the vault would have become "free" again anyway. But this is the Prince Estate we're talking about and they're not always the most forward thinking in terms of general artistic expression. Take this video for example. They've made a traditional 16 by 9 video announcement here and released it in a vertical format. If they were going to make a video announcement and release it with vertical framing, why not just create it that way or make two versions? I'm a video guy for a living. I do this all the time and it's not that hard to do. The estate makes strange artistic decisions because it is run by lawyers and suits. Prince hated it when artistic material was controlled by lawyers and suits. (To be fair, Prince probably wouldn't want the documentary to be aired either so I can't hate on the estate too much for this situation. I just wish Prince's estate was controlled by people with competent artistic talent and merit instead of greedy suits.) If the so called "free" tracks are ever released, I will still listen to them because I love the music. I just don't have much faith in the Estate anymore. I'm hoping they prove me wrong with a stellar release this year of previously UNRELEASED music. This would make me less grumpy. 🤣🤣 But I'm just a lifelong fan. It doesn't really matter what I think.
This is the Prince estate celebrating that they got Netflix to shelve the 9-hour documentary on Prince, after they took Netflix's money to access Prince's vault. Now, instead of a warts-and-all telling of his life, we'll get yet another boring hagiography of a musical genius.
@DonnyNoMarie It's a contractual agreement, so no. Probably meant the Prince estate handed back Netflix a chunk of the money they took plus compensation for their time and effort. That's how scared they were that this doc would sully the estate's future profitability.
Some of the comments in here are ridiculous. The man said himself that the vault contains some of his best material. He also stated that one day, it would be released after he was no longer present. Everything that's happening was by Prince's design. Have you ever heard of a Private Trust? 💜
These are PRINCE'S EXACT WORDS regarding his unreleased music in his Vault - "Someday, SOMEONE will release them - I don't know that I will get to release them." This was during an interview on The View.
True. But what has been released so far it’s stuff hardcore fans already had (in worse quality of course) And a few new unreleased ones that honestly weren’t better than his official output. Even his album W2A isn’t good or it’s unfinished. Also Prince said he hated bootleggers because they had unreleased songs that weren’t good enough or just unfinished or he wasn’t happy with them.
@@Cormac-jd2kx I have been a hardcore Prince collector from the mid 80s. I bought all the shitty sounding bootlegs back in the day. I want pristine CD quality versions. I will pay and have paid for all the super deluxe editions (we actually pay a lot more $ in Australia than the US for these SDEs) & I will keep paying for them so the estate keeps releasing them. But it seems that people who claim to be Prince "fams" don't actually buy the SDE's. The last 2 sold poorly, which is why there probably won't be any more.
@@brianinglis3805 I didn’t buy Diamonds & Pearls because I’m a hardcore fan. It’s the album he started following trends and I hated it back then and still today. I remember there were hardcore fans since day one that hated ATWIAD and Parade. Prince was so versatile and went through so many different phases that it was impossible to please every fan. To me 91 was when things changed for me. As Eric Leeds said Prince universe was James Brown Sly Stone Earth Wind & Fire, Steve Wonder Hendrix etc and NOT urban street hip hop new Jack swing etc because he didn’t LIVE it. He wasn’t being authentic Just different opinions D&P sold a lot back then (not fans) but most of those people would never buy it AGAIN. And real fans didn’t either for different reasons. TBA didn’t sell much when it was officially released. Another mistake. The estate should release Camille or a deluxe of DM or Lovesexy/TBA or Parade. I bet ALL fans would buy them
I guess they made an agreement with Netflix that unlocks their rights to releasing new Prince music. I just hope the agreement does not consist in not releasing the documentary. But I'm afraid it does. Here are the 2 messages in this teaser : "No one can dictate who you are to other people." I guess this is the Estate telling Netflix to F off. "You are either here to enlighten or discourage." This might be the Estate's way to say that in their perspective the documentary would not have enlightened Prince's public image and so it won't be released. I believe they just shut Netlix and Edelman's mouth with a big check and I don't like this at all.
I completely agree with you both! The is just some crap the Estate can pull the make some money and release this documentary that doesn't tell us who Prince ACTUALLY was, just who THEY want us to think he is!
@ They start to act like the Michael Jackson Estate. Worst path for authenticity. Best one for money. But McMillan from the Prince Estate said himself that he was here to "make millions".

Also to get a Sam Cooke abbum!
@@Music73777you got any from purple rain era? Or lovesexy era?
...I bought THREE copies of the "Black Album" in 'wrecka stows'!! ...unfortunately, NONE were the actual WB releases, but One had a REAL COOL black-shellacking of Prince's face on the cover with a retro 70's funk purple lettering hype sticker....I LOVED that copy! ...ha-HAA!
Release live concerts please on blu ray or dvd 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
OMG, This is like a Superbowl party vibe , 🎊🤗👏👏👏👏
Imagine if we got some unreleased Prince albums like High or Madrid 2 Chicago, unbelievable 🎉😮❤️
Love and miss you Prince
He had so many prophetic songs. You could just be hearing this and it will hit home.
Now how y'all give us this snippet of this acoustic version? I now demand the whole song! Come on y'all!
This man was a machine. He pumped out so much in his time on earth 🌍💜
This just made my day. I've been missing Prince. So excited for some new music to add to my Playlist.
Great comment! This is exactly, what i feel….💜🔥
Sexy, smooth, an American idol, best guitar player ever, love Prince!!❤❤❤❤❤
For the Love Of Prince the Music Lives Forever.. My Heart is Free with Music..

Well if the vault is freed, hopefully we'll get some great concert footage from during different eras of his career.
This song literally kept me alive in my teens!

We need a 30th Anniversary Deluxe for The Gold Experience 😩💛💜
Out of all of his songs this was my favorite. Of course I have many favorites, but this was #1. 💜💜

I'm not sure what this means, but I've been a hardcore Prince fan since 1982. I'm Here For It....!!!
I am soooo excited to see what comes next 💜💜💜
This vault is the arc of the covenant guys. We will not be able to handle its glory and die on the spot
I'm ready to have my face melt off.

I don’t think he would of liked this, but here to hear it
I think he would want us to remember him, and this is a good way to remember him.💜🕊😢
@@funkyweapon1981 but knowing how much of a perfectionist he was, there was a reason it was in the vault
@@DannyGrcI think, given that he is not here with us anymore, he’d be more upset that no one would ever hear them at all. The waste…I think as much as he would have always chosen to be in control, he still obviously had a great respect and love for the concept of art and wouldn’t want to purposely deprive the world of more
These are PRINCE'S EXACT WORDS regarding his unreleased music in his Vault - "Someday, SOMEONE will release them - I don't know that I will get to release them." This was during an interview on The View.
Prince got music for the next 4 generations!
Yes but the next 4 generations won't even know him. Like you ask kids today - do you know Flip Wilson - half of them have no idea - so let the music out to those that appreciate him the most!
Best artist in the 21st century
I know there’s like 100s of songs in these vaults and I need to hear em

I hear something I never heard and I would love or die to hear more!!!
It means that they are now free to make a ton of money from the vault.
Wtf with the crappy editing of this. Prince estate couldn't afford to have this professionally created ??!?
So does this mean we're finally going to hear all those unreleased projects that Prince shelved?

Prince told Kurt Loder of MTV. When asked about the vault "I'll give it away" I'm sure you can find the interview on here. Also, screw that salacious documentary. Prince was and is music and that is what the focus should be on.
A bit choked up at the moment, thank you.
I'd LUV to see all Princes songs LUV sweetie pie PRINCE 💘💘💘💘
Shelving the 9 hour doc by Ezra Edelman indefinitely likely means the Estate can now do three things:
1. release an SDE every year (they have Parade lined up)
2. release concerts upscaled to 4k for streaming and physical collectors editions
3. Make their own sanitised Netflix doc series from scratch
Ezra Edelman’s doc will become legend and, just like some of the vault tracks, will one day get bootlegged.
OH Parade is coming! One of my fave albums.💜
👀👀👀 Wait WHAT! I have SO goosebumps right now O_o This is really happening :’) Wow I feel so much love right now :’) 💜 Beautifully done I’M SO EXCITED 😍 and we are all here celebrating together :’) 💜

Freedom 4 Free Music!!! ✌️🎸🎹
Amen 🙏
If this video means what I think it means, I'm really happy to live in a time where Prince releases a new album every year 💜

I’m sorry what, the entire Prince vault is free???? 💜🎶🎸🕊️
and yet they have shown nothin..
This is the Prince estate celebrating that they got Netflix to shelve the 9-hour documentary on Prince, after they took Netflix's money to access Prince's vault. Now, instead of a warts-and-all telling of his life, we'll get yet another boring hagiography of a musical genius.
There has to be a way for Netflix to get their documentary to the public.
@DonnyNoMarie It's a contractual agreement, so no. Probably meant the Prince estate handed back Netflix a chunk of the money they took plus compensation for their time and effort. That's how scared they were that this doc would sully the estate's future profitability.
@@teddykgb9971 now, I really want to see that doc!
Would love to hear all of it and yes I do care. I still love u 2.❤
Happy Valentine's Day ❤
They should release the “black is the new black” album

YES RELEASE THEM ALL!😊😊😊 I'll buy everyone!😊😊😊
Some of the comments in here are ridiculous. The man said himself that the vault contains some of his best material. He also stated that one day, it would be released after he was no longer present. Everything that's happening was by Prince's design. Have you ever heard of a Private Trust? 💜
You have the most sane and reasonable comment. Not sarcasm. I'm just glad to see someone that hasn't gone insane.
@@brianinglis3805
I didn’t buy Diamonds & Pearls because I’m a hardcore fan.
He wasn’t being authentic
Just different opinions
D&P sold a lot back then (not fans) but most of those people would never buy it AGAIN.
And real fans didn’t either for different reasons.
TBA didn’t sell much when it was officially released. Another mistake.
The estate should release Camille or a deluxe of DM or Lovesexy/TBA or Parade.
I bet ALL fans would buy them
YEEEESSSSSSSSS☮️💟 #THEVAULTISFREE
Someone , anyone 🙏🏽 point me to the whole version of this song. My heart needs it right now
It’s on the 1999 LP. The song is “Free”
I hope some of the profits honor him and go toward his philanthropy and the arts and not just greed.
How about freeing the Netflix documentary??😭
I guess they made an agreement with Netflix that unlocks their rights to releasing new Prince music. I just hope the agreement does not consist in not releasing the documentary. But I'm afraid it does.
Here are the 2 messages in this teaser :
"No one can dictate who you are to other people." I guess this is the Estate telling Netflix to F off.
@@3ver4fter53 well at least SOMEONE is honest about their true intentions! Also, I was an MJ fan for years and I never even realized they've been messing him up too!
What ever is happening, I’m in for it too
