I’m unfortunately not surprised by a major film studio not properly backing a film with two Asian leads. No promotion, nothing. Just a theater dump. Sandra deserves better.
It has everything that any daughter might dread, her mama,the ever ending fear of disappointing your mother even in death. And a creepy ghost hunting her and a freaky Korean Kumiho/Japanese kitsune. Which unsurprisingly is repeated again in every generation to come.
I'm not, but whew 😓 the chills I got from this, hoping the bad things die with the dead, and this movie clearly says otherwise -- they even have a 9-tailed fox in this. I'm sh!itting bricks.
I’m always down for family trauma mixed with the supernatural. It’s as scary as any curse, but more heartbreaking and relatable. Sandra is amazing and I’m hype for this!

When Sandra quit Grey's Anatomy, I was like, "Girl, why do you want to throw away your meal ticket?". I know it's hard for Asians to get main or big roles but man, was I wrong. She has been blazing away ever since. Good for her. She's a great actress. I wish her the best.

This was filmed at my girlfriends family ranch. It’s called Blum ranch in Acton, California. They specialize in peaches and pears. There’s a small shop next to the ranch house where you can buy some of their produce.
The way I’m planning to go see this with my mom because we’re the only two in our family that REALLY like horror movies. It’s like a bonding thing for us haha so this one will be fitting

This is a very very well done movie. There's not a big cast, but all the few characters really give out a great show. My girlfriend (and me too :) jumped more than 3 times. OMG, the timing was impeccable. I actually cried too.
In our Indian hindu traditions, we have a similar thing, called "Pitar Paksh". It's a few days ceremony, where we bathe in our holy rivers and offer food and certain other things to our dead ancestors so that they always look after us. It's believed that the spirits of our ancestors come down on earth to see us, and are nearby during this festival. The people who don't appease their dead relatives are supposed to be bestowed with bad luck. I remember the movie " Coco" also had something similar. All of our cultures, whether its latin, indian or korean or many others, are so far apart, but we all have a lot of similarities.
As a Korean, I'm glad this movie presents Korean ancestry in Hollywood, and I'm glad the protagonist is Sandra Oh. She's an amazing actress. That guy who came to home's Korean accent is not fluent at all. But at least he tried. What if the casting director cast a Korean or Korean American actor who is really fluent in Korean speaking, that would've been great.

Saw this yesterday. Pretty good movie overall. It's not scary but more of a thriller. If you're one of those anti-horror ppl, you can definitely make it through this one. Oh and the actress that played Amanda (the mom) is fine af 🤷🏾♂️

This thing is very real in asians. We pay heavy respects and offer feasts to our dead ancestors every year. Im an Indian and this day is huge for everyone. Each family pays tribute to their family tree and people who have deceased. Meals are made..their favourite food is then offered to crows and we all wait patiently till crow eats something. The moment the crows eats something we dont look back. Considering that once again we are blessed by lost souls. Its a hugeeee day!! If we hurt or do anything wrong during the process…we are expected bad news or bad accidents. There are times when some families dont pay respects to dead souls and within a month the family members go through extremely difficult times. So again to calm those souls down..we do different rituals.
Quite impressed with this movie. It's very good. Only problem is the picture is so dark most of the time I can't see any faces or anything even with the blinds all closed in the house. Wish there was a little more lighting to it to the night time scenes so I can see what's going on

Nine-tailed fox seem to be reoccurring in Asian cultures in terms of mythology. In Japan they call them Kitsune. China they’re called “Fox spirits” Vietnam calls them Ho Tinh/“Terrifying fox spirit”. And here in “Umma” they are called Kumiho in Korea. Shown in 2:10
I expected it to be much better. I was disappointed, though I did like how dark it was in several scenes to give us the feeling of what they could and couldn't see.

It's too bad this movie was marketed as a horror. A lot of people are going to feel lied to when they see this. It's a family drama with supernatural elements and a couple of jump scares. No gore, no deaths. I liked it for what it actually was, but the marketing team has set themselves up to getting really poor reviews when people realize they've been duped and go online to vent their frustrations. People are going to spend actual money thinking they're getting something they are definitely not going to get. I don't know why Hollywood needs to lie to get people in the seats.

Really great - Sandra always so rewarding to watch - great story, effects and short and sweet. It came in with a bang and left with relief.
