I think its got to do with their baseline level of proficiency as well. You have a lot more of a “buffer” to regress if you start off at a higher point. Luhan was originally really fluent, like native level korean to the point many people thought he was one of the korean members in exo m at debut. Kris also was a trainee for 5 years before debut, and so learned the language for a long time and spoke it a lot as well. Meanwhile Tao struggled with Korean pronounciation a great deal even while in exo and also picked it up pretty late; he only got more proficient a year-ish into their debut somewhere about growl era and then he left soon after, so its not at all surprising to me. The fact that he remembers the vocabulary at all is already pretty great.
Luhan spoke Korean like a native to the point that he would understand Korean idiomatic expressions most foreigners wouldn't get. He had regressed since he's no longer based in Korea.

Kris was the Chinese member who had been trained for more than 4 years until debut (January 2008-April 2012) while Tao trained for 1 year and half and Luhan only trained 1 year since he was scoutted by SM agency due to his unique look in 2011.
Dechris Ellena Luhan was scouted in 2010 but he had been studying in Korea at the time. This is why Luhan was the Chinese member who was the most fluent in Korean since he actually wen to school in Korea for several years before becoming a trainee

I think they could have lasted much longer in the scene. The chances of EXO-M (China line, performing together in China while the rest were away) and probably more promotions. I dunno, I’m such a huge OT12 stan that it still sometimes gets me when I look back and think about the possibilities IF THEY NEVER LEFT. When the 3 of them left I was still on junior high. So young and sensitive, I was so sad back there. Time flies real fast and I'm an adult now. Watching these takes me back to that time, same emotion I had when I am younger, but mature enough to understand why they had to leave. Im so happy for them, and am forever an Exo-L
It's great that they still communicate in what language that is needed. I love it when they speak any language, but have grown more to hearing them speaking Mandarin/Cantonese (their mother tongue), due to their music/shows. It does feel like it's been a long time since I've heard them speak Hangul, and even I'm still shocked when I hear them. They're awesome and I'm sure their Kfans are waiting for them... 2022 is almost here, no worries.
