I am in Zone 6b in Kentucky, so not too far from you. I planted small musa basjoo last May and they had an amazing growing season. Some people I saw on RUclips had good luck with cutting off the leaves and wrapping the stems in frost cloth and burlap, so I tried that. The stems still turned to mush and collapsed by the end of winter, so I cut them back to the ground about a month ago. I still don’t see any new growth, either. As it’s my first spring waiting for them to come back I wasn’t sure when to expect to see them. Hoping for both of us they’ll return!

Hi! I’m not surprised that wrapping the stems didn’t save them. I don’t think our cold is any match for wrapping, unfortunately. Solid try though, either way! Interesting to hear yours haven’t come back though. Something to keep an eye on and continue to hold out hope for! Thanks and talk soon!

Give them time. Basjoo will come back. It's rare for my basjoo to not come back. I've got many planted in various spots. Only had 3 not come back from about 15.
    Good luck.

Hmm, I lost a couple main trunks on mine this winter, got to -6°F 2-3 times here but I buried them in mulch. The ones alive are a few feet tall already, so you should be seeing them. Could be a fungus or something that came in after the cold? I think that’s what got some of the trunks on mine. I would still give them time, they may try to send out new growth if they’re still alive below ground.

@justhereforthefoliage my needle palm as soon as it got REALLY warm crisped up and died randomly. But all my sabals are very much alive and kicking. I just did a video where I show that I have figs that didn't die back all the way and have fruit forming on OLD growth! Since 2007 I've NEVER had that happen! Very strange winter aftermath

I pulled hay up around mine last winter and they slowly grew through the winter. I didn't cut the leaves or anything this time and now they are almost to the roof of my house. Last year was horrible so that's why I tried the hay. Yours should come back. I'm in 7b

@@justhereforthefoliage the video I watched about doing it said if you are where you get snow to put a cage around them the width of the leaves and up to the leaves as far as possible and stuff between the wire cage and the banana plant with the hay then to wrap it with seran wrap or some type of plastic and it'll protect it. We rarely get snow but we did this past winter. I only used the hay. Hope it helps. It helped mine. I can't remember whose video it was but it's on here.
