Hello Adam. After a pigeon had Pox how can you tell if he is Pox free? I have some ferel pigeons I feed and from time I find a sick one then quarantine him into a small cage and then medicate him. I'm not a rehabber, just someone who cares. I'm an old age pensioner. One of the birds had lesions on the side of his beak. I treated with Iodine and coconut oil. Gave him L-lysine amongst other vitamins etc. I see the lesions has fallen off and left a small gap between top and bottom beak which I'm sure will heal. I want to put him in the flight cage I built for exercise but not sure if the Pox is gone. Thanks for uploading your video. Take care.
I found a pigeon in my garden and brought it back, he had these pox like stuff on it's beak(I am 18 years old and can't feed a pigeon well so I was waiting for my father to come back) and he wasn't eating anything. I thought I will wait for my father to come so I caged him for 2-4 hours and went to study, before leaving him I tried feeding but again no luck, it didn't eat the stuff and just kept it in his mouth and he didn't drink water. After I came back after 3 hours he wasn't even able to stand on his legs and can't even keep his head straight and was falling here and there. I was nervous and their's no animal hospital here so I was hopeless and my father wasn't home too, I tried feeding again but he didn't eat after 5 minutes it started opening his mouth as big as possible as if he can't breathe and then he died in next 30 seconds. I was heartbroken because I love pigeons and I want to know why he died and why he didn't eat anything so in future the same thing won't happen again. Alot of pigeons give kids in my garden so whenever they are in life and death situation they came to my house seeking help and when he died I can't blame myself enough because he trusted me but I failed. I feel more sad thinking his last moments we're caged and he died like this... Please tell me what was wrong with him so it won't happen again. Sorry for the bad grammar, I still can't think clearly
Three of my pigeons got the.pox this year one was severe, i cut open the pox it was by the beak and i have to extract it two seperate times my gosh it was almost as big as a small bean and the pigron would not have survive w/o my help. Thnks for explaining i hope it got the immunity for life as u said.
Hi Adam absolutely love your pigeons and the cool thing is that they are good racers wich you don't see often.by any chance do you live in Sydney? If so would you be willing to sell a couple pairs? I seen the video you posted when you showed a bird you from purchased from Graham davidson so hoping you live in Sydney or not far from Sydney.
Hey Adam have you ever had to deal with a pox problem or outbreak in your loft? Has been an issue in Australia 🇦🇺? Love your videos, hello from Canada 🇨🇦!!
Mine are mostly over a pox outbreak now. There's a brief window in January between when I finish breeding and when the mosquitos hit, if I'm not able to vaccinate in that week then they'll all get it.
One pigeon suffering from this is resting near my window… the infection seems a bit serious and covers its eyes..It doesn’t drink or eat though I put water and rice near it. It has been resting there for 7 hours already…
The last thing you said that pigeon will develop an immunity once it recovers from the pox . So they dont need vaccination ever in their lifetime once they heal ?what if they come into contact with another infected bird after healing .
I found a Feral Pigeon in my balcony , it couldn't fly...so we kept with us in order to save it...we kept it in a box..we have given them cereals and pulses and water..he hardly drank water at first.. didn't had anything... I asked my Vet friend about it's condition.she said it's pox...then she told me to give tetracycline medicine with doses. And spray some garlic and onion juice on the pox areas on legs ....then..we kept it inside home for safety , morning we found it died inside the box .....we don't have any experience with Pigeon..we thought to give it to our friend who is already bringing up Pigeons......I don't know whether we did anything wrong
Hi Adam. My pigeons are suddenly dropping dead. I see a lot of them vomiting. The ones that are dead, I hadn’t noticed any symptoms. The common thing I see on dead pigeons are that they have green vomit in their mouth when I open them. Any idea what this could be? Thanks
Ur video was really helpful coz I found a pigeon outside and my dog wanted to eat it. I stopped her before she got close to the bird and I wasn't sure of want infection it had so i took it and placed it far away from my house outside. Then I washed my hands coz I did not know what was wrong with the poor thing but I can't take it to the vet coz I live with my mom and dad and I don't have money to nurse it to health
They can sometimes get pox at the injection site, and yes, any unvaccinated birds who are in contact with freshly vaccinated pigeons will get pox, because the pox vaccine is a live vaccine.
Use insecticide that is safe for pigeons.. you can also use this pellets they put near cloth to repel insects... that's how it's getting transfered to the new chicks
Just let the birds free allah god created animals free to fly not to be pet at home ,they dont get exposed on sun properly and fly with her peers and unstress free
How do I use it? I have quarantined a baby pigeon and his parents the baby had it at first now the parents have it, I do have iodine and coconut oil, can I put a dab on the pox? Thank you.

Don't blame yourself, you tried your best! It is most likely that the bird was too sick to live unfortunately. Thanks for trying though :)
I have a very similar story like yours almost the same and yeah it really hurts seeing them die despite all your efforts.
That disease like cancer we can't cure once it came for pegion then that will definitely will not be cured. Don't be sad for that.

Glad you enjoyed the video 👍
Don't cut it while it's wet. Becareful and be patient.. If it's almost dry (or completely dry/looks dry) it's safe to peel the pox.
Thank you very much it was very helpful

Sir hi how u what Madison for Pigeons

Sir which is the vaccine for pigeon pox..?
If adult pigeons have immunity to pigeon pox, will they give antibodies for pix to their squabs via crop milk?
I'm not sure actually, I know for other diseases they do, but the immunity in the young wears off after a month or so. So I assume pox may be similar.
The last thing you said that pigeon will develop an immunity once it recovers from the pox . So they dont need vaccination ever in their lifetime once they heal ?what if they come into contact with another infected bird after healing .
Correct, infection gives them lifetime immunity.
Thanks allot
Happy to help!
vaccine name

Possibly rotavirus?
@@AdamArcherPigeons I hope not. Do you know if they exist in North America/ Canada? I was thinking e coli.

They usually recover, but really, vaccination is the only answer to pox.

No it will heal naturally.
Pigeon pox literally kill half of the chicks that hatch here...
