I think that this time (1985-1991) is the F1 at his top level, no one era unite so great drivers and cars like that. We have the beautiful Mclarens Benettons and the amazing sounds of Ferrari v12. We have drivers like Mansell, Prost, Senna, Piquet, Berger, Nannini, Alesi, and many others. This is the time when men were men!
So many different sounds, from V8/V10 and V12. Damn..i miss those times. Hopefully the F1 will once go back to these engines. The engines nowadays just sound so boring.
John Watson was not driving, he was F1 commentator on Eurosport around this time, with Allard Kalff. So he was there in his media role. He did not test the Jordan until January 1991.
Whatever systems teams were checking that day......the differences in the rear wing from team to team quite marked..Honda's power always allowed McLaren to put on a barn door
