From a New Zealander and a All Blacks fan.... Johnny Wilkinson was a game changer and a true genetleman of the sport. One of the best to ever lace up, immortalized!
@tinymahuta Overall I'd say Carter is the better player all round, just not in defence, but there is no question the Wilkinson is the bigger legend, his name is far more well known, and his kicking technique is globally recognised even by none rugby fans. Wilkinson had far more success in France compared to Carter and if it weren't for his injuries he would have most likely held the record for most points scored.
@tinymahuta mate Wilkinson won world player of the year in 2003. I mean more success in france by him winning European championship twice in a row and the national league to end his career. Carter went to France and left empty handed in comparison. He can play when hes surrounded by the best in the world but Wilkinson proved he can play with anyone.
@tinymahuta Mate you're clearly some young dinwit who probably wasnt even alive when Wilkinson was in his prime. Wilkinson played in 2 world cup finals, one more than Carter and the only reason Carter holds the point records is because Wilkinson was injured for well over 4 full international seasons. Winning the European cup is a very big deal, and the fact that Wilkinson did it twice when playing in France, and Carter didnt, means a lot. Carter spent a career playing with the best team in the world, which is a big reason to which he was allowed to play like he did, the all blacks could make anyone look good. Wilkinson spear headed one of the shittest England teams we've had to the world cup final, sorry but Carter would have never been able to do that. The fact that both played in france and only one was able to find a huge amount of proves my point through and through.
Simply the best. Je suis français et supporter de Toulon, je n'aurais jamais pensé qu'un jour j'admirerais un anglais à ce point là... Thank you for all Jonny
Another kiwi here. Thanks Johnny for your service to the game. Your hard hits especially I always looked forward to. Sharpshooter with the boot and a humble champion. We salute you sir!
There's no doubting his ability on the pitch, and he goes down as one of the greatest players to ever play the game. But his attitude and persona is more important than any of that. I'm a 22 year old guy who loves rugby and has played to an average standard throughout my life, but I want to be like Jonny outside of rugby. He is such an amazing role model for young kids and adults, if I can be as nice as this man and if everyone was as nice as him, the world would be a better place. All the best Jonny, thanks for showing me what a man should be.
A great player and a real man. Humility, dedication and courage. What a guy...and this from a Scot who were put to the sword many times by him...ouch. A true great. Thanks you for being you Jonny. Love and respect
+shanan fuller stats would tell you Stephen hendry was a better snooker player than Ronnie o'sullivan he wasn't , stats would tell you pele was a better footballer than Messi he wasn't , it would be unfair to go off stats with wilkinson because half his career he was plagued with injury!
This guy is a true rugby hero, and should be quoted when looking to put forward all the best bits of English rugby. A true ambassador. Who knows what greater heights he could have reached if injuries had not intervened. However, perhaps that break in play was what he needed and going to Toulon gave him the momentum to keep going without the pressure of England team choices behind him. I wish him a happy retirement from play and hope he finds contentment in his future choices.- from Mary Heath
Should be Sir Jonny already but no doubt he will be knighted. Even though he has retired I've got a feeling its not the last we've seen of sir Jonny. The 2003 England team were the best ever. Jonny is also the best ever the trophy could not of been ours without him.
+David Smith New Zealand team that have just won would shit on the England team that won in 2003 - they only just beat a depleted Wallaby team by a mere drop goal.
Freddie Graves it wasn't bad refs decisions. I'm an English fan and I can tell from my point of view the wallabies had some pure pressure on england at the scrimmage
Lewsey, Wilkinson, Robinson, Dellaglio ....... The list for players in that era for England was unmatched. Bless them all. Yet to achieve that level of triumph again!
i am sad...this year 2 Gods of Rugby retired....Brian O'Driscoll and Jonny "The Golden Boy" Wilkinson....i just hope that at least 2 players to be the same as these 2 Gods was in this sport...
A legend of rugby and sport in general, fantastic player, total commitment, bravery, not a sign of selfishness, great tackling technique, tactical awareness, excellent kicking, cool under pressure, flawless behaviour on and, as far as I know, off the field, a true role model.
Best tribute out there to go with the best Rugby player :) he's inspired me to play rugby and practise. He has helped me with his mindset of everything you put in you get out what a player no other player alike.
Mike catt and jonny were the best kicking combo I have ever seen. Mike was such a underrated player but I always thought he was fuckin awesome. He used to read the game so well. I can remember that world Cup winning game like it was yesterday.
Nice comments by Catty, Rowntree and Dayglo there. Hopefully, one day, he will return to England and be involved with Rugby here, both at club and international. But not till after he's had a good few more years in the sun at Toulon.
the key words being... 'be involved' obviously this means coaching like he is now doing in Toulon as I said 'but not till after he's had a good few years in the sun'. I could've worded it better but given this entire vid is about him retiring from playing rugby just what did you think I meant.?!
I do hope he stays a little longer here under our sun in Toulon... He made us cry on saturday evening and yesterday in Toulon when he brought back the H Cup and Bouclier de Brennus
For the folk of Toulon to grab, embrace him as a local hero as at Newcastle is enough. He is a standard & a bloody high STANDARD at that.. Johnny relax enjoy you latter journey as you deserve it Quel Gentilhimme
The players make mention of it but still part of his game that was so overlooked....his tackling. He could smash people into tomorrow.Watched him at Newcastle alot...he was one powerful guy💪💪
One tackle in particular during the wc final, not sure how it was against but he hand one hands fingertips on the shorts and the other hand just slapped one of the legs. They showed it in slow motion and it was just impressive
@@ay613 He’s a very private man who doesn’t crave the limelight the media attention and all the pressure that goes with it. He’s just a genuine guy who had/has an amazing gift and who wants to left alone to be with his family. And I guess live happily ever after.. God bless the man in my opinion 👍🏻👍🏻
JW, his greatest fans are his fellow players, the French do not like us (mutual) but ask them about JW, they loved him, bearing in mind he destroyed them in 2003 RWC.
+Brian Neale Well for starters Neil Jenkins was Welsh, this this the England Rugby page, but also whilst Jenkins was undoubtedly brilliant, he did not match Wilkinson's achievements.
Nothing you can do really. In order to prevent cauliflower ear you need to get them drained regularly before it calcifies and becomes permanent. After that, cosmetic surgery is your only option which aint cheap.
Good place kicker and drop goal kicker but not has good as Barry John or Phil Bennet they were attacking outside half’s , but modern outside half Dan Carter was the great .

Great comments from you both.
we gonna miss him .. from France. Best player ever. Thank you english people, you are rugby.

Jonny Wilkinson is the best rugby player that has ever walked this earth! Well done for what you have done for the game! And thank you!
Totally inspirational both on and off the pitch, it has been pure pleasure to watch.
The best kicker of all time so accurate him and Carter Imo but Johnny just edges it!

The best defensive 10 the game has ever had, a fine place kicker and a thoroughly decent and fair player. Thanks Johnny.
Jonny Wikinson, Pele, Muhamed Ali etc. All time greats are just that. Best footballer it´s been my pleasure to watch.
A Legend of the game , from a Munster and Ireland Man.
I loved watching him play at Newcastle, sadly never got to see him live internationally, but I’ll never forget that drop goal in 2003.
I love this guy. So talented, but also so elegant, so humble, so unique. I wish you the best Jonny.
One of the greatest of all time.Tough ,strong etc,etc.....and one of my favourite players and I'm Irish.
Jonny is the best thing that never happen in our french "Top 14". I'm so sad since he stopped his career...

+Brian Neale Well for starters Neil Jenkins was Welsh, this this the England Rugby page, but also whilst Jenkins was undoubtedly brilliant, he did not match Wilkinson's achievements.
Jonny Wilkinson won the world cup.
Jenkins was a kicker. That's about it. He wasn't awful but hardly up there with Bennett and John was he? Maestro pushing it a bit.
There is no better then Jonny even tho people say Owen Farrell is better. I'm telling you now he fucking not #go #on #jonny
he looks abit like heath ledger the actor
