- Harvey native Zaila Avant-Garde is showing off her talent both on the court and on the stage of the National Spelling Bee in Florida.
She won the Scripps National Spelling Bee and she is also accomplished at dribbling a basketball She holds 5 Guinness World Records. Oh, she also can ride a unicycle.
Zaila Avant-garde is a definite star in the making, if she isn't already one.

Good fot her. In the 9th grade, many years ago, I was the man....city-wide in my NJ area, at spelling. I cleaned-up in multiple prelims leading up to the city finals. Everyone knew I was a lock to win. Unfortunately, when the winning word came up, I was so busy flirting with, & playing lovey-dovey eyes with Linda Wright - the cutest girl on the planet in 1969, that I spelled the word without thinking about it, and fuc*ed it up..The word? Flirtatious. Damn!!!
