There is a way to attach a flip front without destroying your vintage helmet. The pipeline helmet is a thing of beauty, collectible even. This method was shown to me by a veteran pipeline welder who worked in North Africa, the North Sea, Norway, Northwest Australia. A real pipeline welder. He said don't grind off the existing window. just drill two screw holes exactly where the two supporting pillars of the new flip assembly would be seated. Check out your new flip assembly. The outside flip part is supported by two square section pillars. Chop them and the flip section out of the assembly and attach to your pipeline helmet by screwing through from inside your helmet into the base of the two square section pillars. This method preserves the original clear glass and just uses the dark flip part of the new assembly. Cheers.
Just a suggestion... Next time take the head band assembly out and lay the helmet flat on your work bench. It will be more stable that way and you can get some cleaner cuts. But hey, good job anyway.
I didn't realize how huge those electric die grinders are. I've always used cheepo brand air ones. How long does the battery last in the angle grinder? I have a pair of 4 1/2" corded Dewalts and I beat the daylights out of them.
DarlingtonFarm Thanks for the video and the head gear is perfect just fit it to your head and then use electrical tape to hold the band in place from slipping.
Wait a minute.. why did you tear apart your hood to put a flip front on it when you can just put an auto darkening shade in it and you can still grind. Don’t see why you would want a flip front
Nicholas burgess I gut all the head gear and put the Jackson stuff in all my hoods. Just drill the square hole out and then you have to drill a little hole for an adjustment pin. Works great and I've done it on a few of mine n had friend do it to there hoods
I like it, now I ended up putting way too much money in it for what it is but it runs 7018s better than any thing I have ever used. It's only ok with 6010, my sa 250 diesel stacks with no effort the red face you really have to work to get good looking 6010. I'm getting use to it though, but for 7018 it kicks butt. For what I have in it I could have gotten a used vantage or pro 300
To get my red face to stack,I'll drop my volts and pick up the amps ,running down hill with 3/16 s I hold my rod almost straight up and not to much movement side to side ,She lays pretty good I Guess just finding that sweet spot , my red face is a 1960 - you have great videos "
those sellstrom inserts suck. the attachment to change the inside lens busts and is always loose, ive gotten shit in my eyes a few times now because of that POS.
Where Safety glasses under the shield and that will help. It doesn't matter what flip up shield you get you will always be having some stuff come in the shield. I have used many many different shields there all the same. I bought this for my shield working pretty good and extremely light.
I do wear safety glasses, just the way the debris flys, also annoying how the lenses keep trying to come out when you go to flick it down and start welding again after grinding.
I know that the final product doesn't show how you butcher the cutout. But what this shows, is you quality of work. I wouldn't hire you to pick up dog shit in my yard. Heck, you can't even get the right camera angle so we can see what you're doing.

that FibreMetal hood is actively made by Honeywell, nothing close to vintage or collectible
I just got mine today. I'm gonna wait to put it in Monday. I took a file and made the space wider for my auto dark to fit. :)
Great video. Awesome it’s a family collaboration
Just file it down a little to make the autodarkening lens fit, thats what i did to mine and worked. Easy fix!!!
Totaled that Pipeliner .
Just a suggestion...

Lincoln headgear fits great with little mods to the hood! Check out there new 4 point headgear.
got my flip front today.....didnt realize it was that heavy

It lasts surprisingly long, it's super handy for working on fences and stuff around the farm.
DarlingtonFarm Thanks for the video and the head gear is perfect just fit it to your head and then use electrical tape to hold the band in place from slipping.
+Nicholas Smerk there pretty good especially with the new li ion batteries
Die grinders are overkill. I just use a dremel 4000 with carbide bits
Dudes got cranberry and vodka sittin on the left
Wine cooler ????????? Really LOL.
It's a white thing
BRENT3143945 I see more black women drinking wine coolers than anyone else
A perfect example on how not to do it
Nice vid...you can take a dremel and widen the slit for a wider lens. That is what I did, work perfectly
Yeah now the thing weighs 6 pounds which defeats the purpose of the PipeLiner hood.
Wait a minute.. why did you tear apart your hood to put a flip front on it when you can just put an auto darkening shade in it and you can still grind. Don’t see why you would want a flip front
Michael Smith it will still dim. Lol I had one on mine
What kind of paint you use for the hood
In the video you say it's the 28300 model but in the description it says 27300 I'm about to order just wondering which one it is
Good video and paint job lol how much did you pay with shipping
how much weight does that flip front add?
Thank you for putting the part #
Darlington did you ever put the Jackson head gear on the hood?
Nicholas burgess I gut all the head gear and put the Jackson stuff in all my hoods. Just drill the square hole out and then you have to drill a little hole for an adjustment pin. Works great and I've done it on a few of mine n had friend do it to there hoods
I got my auto darken lens in with two clear lens no problem.
+Arc Layer what lens did you put in it?
Qual e o nome desse filtro solar e dificil de encontra
Looks good.
Outstanding Sir

Boa noite como fazer pra mim compra um equipamento desse?
How do you like that red face ? And that's a cool paint job on the hood :)

😢😢😢😢😢🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺😣😣😣😣😣😣капец... Как так можно резать такой дорогущий шлем... И еще так не аккуратно 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😱😱😱😱
Bought mine yesterday it was 35.00 shipped
+Abel Alcocer Where did you buy yours from? Im having a hard time finding it.
why doesn't fibremetal just make flip up options so we don't have to do this?
they do just not the pipeliner model
Andyb 1983 that’s what he was asking. So many want the pipliner flip front. Still waiting for it to come along
Use a dremel
Just get the proper head gear for a FiberMetal tiger hood. The Jackson garbage wont fit and is flimsy as all hell.
Should of clear your work area first seems your rushing it you in a race
those sellstrom inserts suck. the attachment to change the inside lens busts and is always loose, ive gotten shit in my eyes a few times now because of that POS.
Damn bud I wanted one so bad but shit idk now lol u think I should just get the fibremetal tiger good with that flip up lens?
Theyres other companies out there that make them

Welder Boy Strange this thing holds the lens in better then any other shield i have used maybe yours is just worn out. They don't last forever

Damn dude, who pissed in your cereal.
