@@SuperHellKnight666 same, when I've first seen the snowfox in the pda entry i was like "this thing looks to fragile and open for being a surface exploration vehicle" and after all why waste resources when you have a fully functional piece of badass technology already built?
There is actually a lore reason for the pda's new voice. it is becouse sam's pda is a sketchy off brand and not the alterra pda you were using in the first game.
@@anthonyhaney626 oh shit you are right i remebered it wrong Back in the day i read a blog post about why the pda sounded different and they said that Sam stole the pda after she got fired from xenoworks.
I feel like IF there's a third game, it's going to take place on the Architects home planet as a continuation. Because at the end of the first game, there's a slight hint that Below Zero was going to happen because Riley (the first game's protagonist) looked at the arctic as he flew around the planet right before that psychedelic animation happened.
Here is an update 4 months later for you. The Iceworm range has been fixed and doesn’t knock you of the snow fox as much ,and there is a new sea truck dock that is sick af😊 just in case any of y’all wanna know❤
The exact same thing happened to me with my prawn suit in the beta - I was in the cutscene, heard a distant explosion, then realized my mech was gone... I'm glad you found the same solution I did, though swimming past shadow leviathans while running out of oxygen has to be one of the most terrifying things I've ever done in a game. That was also one of the only times I sent feedback to the developers, it's sad they didn't change anything though. I was hoping they would let the mech into the facility so it would be better protected.
@@agarthansupersoldier My guess in why they didn’t let the player do that, and tying in with how you said you could in the first game, is they never fixed the bug where the prawn suit stuck in the ground in the alien facilities, so they opted to disallow it entirely.
17:10 Going back and watching that questline wrap up. Your character literally does this narration speech explaining why she considers this to be meaningful to her. Like she's literally trying to explain to the player that it's actually a good ending to the plotline and not anti-climactic. The other part of this plotline "How did my sister die" starts with a letter saying "Yeah, she died in an accident" and ends with the grand discovery that "she died in an accident" Your character, when discovering the necklace and that it was a cave in, even says something akin to "surely that can't be how she died" and it's left like that as if you'll discover that something else caused her death
Well, it's not 'just an accident' per se. Sam tried to sabotage Alterra's access to the cave and ended up martyring herself for her cause, so it is sort of poetic.
salute to you, you made it all the way with "almost" no problem! congrats PS: Im REALLY gonna miss the subnautica series, its what got me hooked to this channel
@@bricezilla4669 yea luckily, but microsoft made a bad move and removed subnautica and below zero from gamepass ultimate, which pisses me off because i can no longer play them.
I feel like Maida would've been better off left as some more voicelogs. As in, leave everything exactly as it happened in the game, but make it so that she actually LEFT at some point, so you're only discovering whatever she left behind. The base, the edgy Prawn Suit, the corpses of several leviathans she fist fought herself... just no Maida.
or maybe she could have died of kharaa shortly after arriving; that could work too, that way she’d have a reason to leave voicelogs behind beyond just maintaining her sanity in her isolation: leaving something for someone to eventually find
@@thelordofthelostbraincells When showing is more disappointing than letting the audience imagine things for themselves.....yes. After all, that's what made the first game so captivating. If we'd actually gotten to see what happened to everyone or talk to them it would have lost a ton of its atmosphere and just been poorly-acted cutscenes like every other game can do.
Honestly, I'm in agreement with Luncheon and Zero both, here. In any good story, the general rule is "show, don't tell," because it more often than not detracts from the quality of the story to have the reader spoon-fed every detail without letting them figure things out for themselves. It's like when stories do the, "little did they know" thing, whatever suspense they're trying to build is immediately thrown out the window by the needless heads up that something is about to happen. Or when you're told outright who the villain is, and then you're expected to keep pretending it's all a big mystery while the heroes are stumbling around in the dark trying to piece together a puzzle you've just had solved for you. It just doesn't work. But on the other hand, I feel like there are times where you can show _too much._ Just like it detracts from the imagination's stimulation to be told everything, you can also kill the buzz by showing everything. Sometimes, it's better to not show what happened, and let people come to their own conclusions with the context clues they have. We really didn't need to see Maida in the flesh at all, outside of a bio image of her face in the PDA, maybe. Her story in the first game was about how she was a mercenary hired by a doomed expedition, and due to the then untamed virus in the water, she, along with said expedition, became infected. It didn't go into whether she survived or not, and left it to the players to determine for themselves whether she made it or not - which, again, given that the enzyme didn't start populating in the water until after we beat the first game, it was highly unlikely. But, not impossible, which could be shown without having to see the woman herself by simply her audio logs that detail how she survived, and, yeah, her leftover base and all the fixings in it, both of which would inform the players that Maida is a tough old bitch and managed to beat the virus on her own terms, in spite of how deadly it, and the world around her, is. And the fact that she left stuff behind, but was not there, herself, could once again have been left to player interpretation: Did she get too comfortable and cocky and perhaps meet her match against a bigger, more pissed off leviathan? Maybe the Shadow Leviathan who got made hyper lethal in the full release? Thing's already terrifying, the idea that Maida got got by it would send an even stronger message to the player, "hey, you know the crazy old gal who beat a Reaper to death? She got eaten by this thing. Maybe try and avoid it, rather than fighting." Or maybe Maida managed to make her way off world? She's resourceful, and she's still alive after the security guns were disabled, so she could probably have rigged up a radio to signal for pickup like the first game's protagonist tried to do, but successful, this time. And as for Maida being how Robin finds the cure, maybe that could've been another angle - maybe she succeeded in helping Sam find and make a cure, but she wound up meeting the same fate as Sam and Parvan (which, Seth was half-right twice: Parvan found out Sam was up to something and tried to stop her, Sam set off an explosion that caused a cave in and killed them both. This works great for Maida, the mercenary for hire, as she and Parvan could've gotten into it with one another and Sam could've set off the explosion in a moment of hastiness and ended all three of them while still keeping that plot thread intact, though I agree with Seth that what we got was a crock and deserved much more work than it received), so the only way we can find it is by piecing together where it's hidden from audio log conversations between the two? Instead, we just see Maida doing fuck-all in her cozy little hidey hole. Everybody she had any reason to care about is dead, so she decides to just... hang out. You'd think a woman of action would be more inclined to _take action_ now that she's not being held down by any outstanding obligations, but I guess not. I dunno, maybe I'm nuts and all this is nonsensical crap I pulled out of my ass. So, to summarize: Tell, Don't Show is bad, except for the rare instances where Show, Don't Tell shows too much and doesn't tell enough.
The first story was discarded because the ending was leaked. The ending of the first story was more epic. When Al-an and Sam try to leave they are stopped by an Alterra batleship, but then comes our baddass friend Marguerit in her prawn suit to fight the ship and give you time to escape trough the warp gate, is unclear if Marguerit died there or not, but that final gave more use to Marguerit. That final could still be used if they made Alterra notice Sam's activity in the planet and sending troops to stop her.
wait really? they scrapped it cause it got leaked? i thought all changes were due to "creative differences" because of a leak that as someone who followed most of of subnautica below zero without trying to spoil much didnt even hear about
I think rather than doing either Sam's or Al's story, they should of been tied together. Sam disappeared while trying to find Al, you find Al while trying to find her, and you can have Alterra be involved and have to help Mada sabotage them so they don't find Al and his equipment. Hell add in physical effects to the world that makes your life easier for helping Mada. All three stories aimed torwards one conclusion. And some one else mentioned Mada was supposed to fight alterra in the ending, that would of helped her tie into the main story even more.
My opinion of Below Zero: So first of all the good things, the Ending was fantastic and I'd love to see another entry exploring the architects homeworld. The new biomes are beautiful and the atmosphere was excellent most of the time. Now onto the less great things, the world itself was confusing to explore with most locations being so hidden away that without guidance of AL-AN I would've never found them in the first place, the world itself feels quite empty and sterile as if there wasn't enough time to dedicate to a living breathing world. The game is riddled with gamebreaking bugs and loading issues, unoptimized and laggy in the weirdest places. 6/10 Buy on a sale, Unknown worlds needs to take more time to debug and invest heavier into quality assurance.
I never even found the frozen leviathan or sams base in my first playthrough, I havent found sams base even now in my third playthrough. Though I did find the frozen leviathan in the first one only just before the ending, cause I thought "Oh yeah wait.. the trailer had a huge frozen creature, let me look that up." Then was let down when I found it. Which also means I have still never cured the leviathan
Honestly don’t know why I didn’t think of him dying is a viable option of going home out of the caverns tbh. I thought of well he probably just left his seatruck at the entrance of fabricator caves right? uh no haha
I would personally just like to thank Seth for this series, band all his other ones. These vids really help me out when I need something funny or enjoyable to watch, and I know others enjoy these vids as much as I do. I can't wait to see what is next for the channel and am excited for whatever Seth decides to cook up. So Thank you! For this series, and all the other amazing content on this channel.
As soon as I saw this got uploaded, I quite literally speedran through the entirety of your Below Zero playlist. I also finished the game myself recently so this was great timing. Amazing stuff my guy. Hope your plan for this year works out!
Outpost Zero is highlighted in the delta station Map, it can be missed but at least there is some sort of indicator, i found it first on my playtrough I agree pretty much with your opinions regardless about the game being overpainted haha waiting for your full review on it hopefully UnknowWorlds will learn from its mistakes for future games
I came here to mention the map too. The lack of a direct reason to come here is painted as a negative, but I actually like that the game doesn't hold your hand everywhere. This rewards players that are naturally curious and want to investigate. I visited outpost zero early in the game because it was on the map and had the zero designation, not because the game told me to go there. That made discovering it that much more rewarding.
Yes, all the Alterra stations are in the map and outpost zero and omega lab which Seth also didn't find are mentioned in multiple voice logs and, in case of omega lab in lilypads, hinted at by the pda mentioning a large rock mass separating and floating up. I found it by just circling in and out of the lilypad caves in search of parts to scan. the first log you probably listen to, the one from lillian, also tells you immediately about outpost zero. it lets you know things are out there, just doesn't give you a beacon to them, so you can explore and use the map
@@majtravien4381 there are so many games that just outright shows you everything with markers and waypoints or towers its just nice to play blind for a while in an open zone game from time to time i hope subnautica 3 or whatever unknown worlds makes next will have a similar way of exploring the world 😊
@@jeandeasd right! I adored below zero in some ways even more than the original game (even though I don't think it's technically better), probably because I went into it knowing way less than I did abt subnautica, and it won me over with its exploration model and beauty. (and i really love the seatruck, surprisingly! only wish you could put more stuff in the storage module, and maybe get a blank module to build some things in, a recyclotron and a single pot would solve all of my problems)

Sad, gonna miss you Seth. I still remember with affection your x-com videos with your narrative. I still be here at the end of the year or whatever. Good luck with this new course.
I'm kinda sad that there won't be too much gameplay vids, but the commentary type videos feels like a step in the right direction. Also I recently started playing below zero for my self and it's pretty fun and the ice worm is not as bad anymore. I really hope you'll be able to make a gameplay video on the next subnautica game that has been confirmed to be coming, I hope it will be at least next year. I may be a newcomer to the channel but I'll make sure to drop by the twitch streamer and donate some things to help you out. I'll do my best to support you, although I did recently finish college and am moving in to my first house. Anyway cya in the next vid, Seth!
My main issue with sub zero is that you can miss too much, in subnautica we had a very simple system, go a bit deeper, obtain material to go deeper, learn a bit, repeat till the end, theres a ''depth'' progression, in sub zero everything ''feels'' at the same depth lvl, so u can legit miss things, like the kharaa cure, i legit didnt heal it, i found the frozen leviathan and everything but i just didnt found the cure so i didnt went back to administrate it, i just made al-an and left but during the end speech i was like ''but i dint?'' coz i didnt solve sam's storyline, i was just like.....Ok.
I also left my prawn suit outside the fabricator, it broke, and I swam in a B-line without looking back or making a wrong turn, and ended up reaching my seatruck with what- 2 seconds of air left? It's wild
This was a wild ride, Seth, and I'm so glad I watched it. I honestly kinda agree with your feelings on Below Zero, and though i'm on my second playthrough now, i'm remembering why i love the first one more. It was just an absolute masterpiece. I loved the way you described them both in relation to their cover art. Perfect explanation. That being said, I found my way to your channel because of Subnautica, and I'm pretty happy I did. you're an absolute treasure of a human, and your content is nothing short of delightful. I personally, am glad you're finding an opportunity for channel growth and i wish you the best in your endeavors! I look forward to your next video!
I really want to see what they do with the Subnautica story but I think a third underwater survival game will just be too boring after two of them. So I think if they are going to continue the story in another game it should be a different genre.
I saw a random comment on a different subnautica video saying that there was confirmation that the next game was set on land, but random commenters are a dubious source of information, and I'm too lazy to fact check
There's been an interview by Bacon a few days ago, and the developer multiple times didn't want to call it "Subnautica" but always carefully named it "the next thing in the Subnautica universe". So let's see.
i hope you will do the gameplay on the upcoming subnautica. it is confirmed that they are working on the next one respect and congratulations with the 100k milestone. i really love the type of commentary on the subnautica videos. i will be watching below zero and the original subnautica again a few time. i just like the game and your commentary so much well done
For me the entire phase gate facility didn't load in, like the entire place was gone and all there was an empty cave, ant it could only be fixed by an update
Genuinely surprised at how you don't have more subscribers and followers. You are very funny as well as your interactions with chat, you are also honest and pretty humble (the shock and concern at having people donate mass amounts of money to you is very endearing), and the editing is very entertaining without being over the top overbearing which gives time to talk and enjoy the game. One of the two youtubers whose subnautica playthroughs I've watched repeatedly, and the only blind playthrough who I constantly snicker at.
I wish this game could have been the amazing sequal to subnautica that everybody wanted, and even though it was still great, it kinda came out wonky. I hope that the devs aren't done with this world yet though, as these games are just so great at what they do. (A game like subnautica that takes place in a world with low gravity and almost all sky with giant flying laviathins would be awesome.)
The best comparison I can come up with is that this is like How to train your Dragon 2, its not bad, but it just failed in some key elements that stop it from re-capturing the magic of the original, here is to hoping that Subnautica 3 can re-capture some of the magic while also taking the story in a new, interesting direction, just like HTTYD 3 did.
Honestly the feeling you get from realizing: "My truck is 1000 meters away from me and the thing I used to get here has just exploded violently, I need to find a way back through the three giant angry fish." Is exactly what Subnautica is about, isn't it? I could be convinced that entire section was scripted even though it very obviously wasn't.
Wait till you see some of cut content. An Alterra gunship confronts you at the end and Maida jumps the thing with her Prawn suit to enable your escape.
I loved the original, with Robyn hiding Al-An from alive, semi-ally, semi-hostile company and sister. The sub story of Robyn balancing her career progression with her sister who doesn’t care - and could wreck it for her - was interesting to me. A real shame.
1:15:15 Like we could still have her be infected but she is helping us so she can get the cure since sam created a cure and that she doesn't really wants to hurt us or evil but she just wants to survive.
Even the title screen, the original game was just open ocean with calming ocean sound, and you ponder what is below. But it has so much... ice bergs.. penglings.. constant noise...
I really enjoyed this series, as well as your last one covering the first Subnautica! I'm so glad to have found you through your love-letter video essay to the series. I definitely have to agree with your wrap up thoughts though, i love subnautica: BZ but it is definitely riddled with flaws from what we've seen here. Its a shame the story got tugged around so much plot wise because like you said, both Sam and AL-AN's plots are fun and interesting but they're different stories shoved into one and don't support each other. Anyways, thank you for this fun series, I think we're all excited to see the dark souls content when that comes out!

You're not mad, just very disappointed. There's a lot of love and sincerity with your frustration. That's a nuance the internet doesn't have often enough.
As a fellow lover of these kinda games i would heavily recommend Outer Wilds, it has everything that this has, excellent music, awesome areas, loads of discovery, areas that cause massive fear without meaning to, existential dread and coming to terms with your place in the infinite universe,
Well… that was an adventure and to be honest your game was so much more laggier! For my time playing I experienced no bugs and the ice worm was encounter was terrifying beyond reckoning! Anyways, great series and holy f*ck! Why are you so good at being entertaining?!
At least you weren't playing the Switch version. Because they only recently dropped a hotfix for the end glitch. Except, instead of just a few pieces and the portal not loading in... It just loads an empty cave. No AL-AN, no machinery, nothing.
Hey seth, I've been watching your videos for a bit now, and you give me a good laugh, and your encounters with the shadow leviathan made me laugh so much, you have made my year so far and keep up with you game plays and twich streems
The original early access story had more potential. In the original the Altera corruption began unfolding as you progressed putting you and your sister in danger as you were left behind and separated from your sister. There was an outbreak on the space station where your sister was posted and you had to stop Altera from discovering Al-An while trying to save your sister in orbit from the ground. There was more character dynamic between major characters because you didn't know who to trust but also didn't want to keep secrets.
i cant believe how they mishandled this, theres many points where i just laughed out loud at the hilariously bad storytelling. it seems like they fired all the good devs from the first game, and only kept the designers, because the game looked great
you can't technically beat it without water, but with a few exceptions (like MVB) you can. someone else did do a series on that though, but i forgot who
to be fair seth, they are likely using lithium or whatever batteries in the future so the pod still burning wouldnt surprise me in the slightest even after several days or weeks depending on the size of the batteries
Also to add to Seth’s point at the end about not being as immersed, I think a reason for that is that the character for the first one is silent, so you feel like the character rather than watching a character, each dialogue is directed to you and no one replies in your stead which makes you feel like you are part of the story and in the game itself, and it makes you more attached. But these are just my thoughts so I could be wrong.
I came here, to your channel, after watching the Subnautica video essay. I stayed here for the XCOM 2 series. I will remain here, until either XCOM is finished, or something else happens. But more than likely, I will stay here to watch your content, you funny robot.
I'm late to comment but here are my thoughts on the Sam/Kharaa storyline: It has so very many plot holes. It doesn't really make sense either. Like, the idea is great. They find a Leviathan by chance that happens to still be infected because it hasn't been able to swim around in the water that now has the cure floating around in it. Big evil cooperation does risky tests to exploit this extremely dangerous bacterium because money. One of the employees thinks it's concerning. Said employee dies in an "accident" after voicing her concerns to several people. Up until this point. Awesome set up. A lot of potential. But then. Turns out the Leviathan can be cured easily despite being frozen. I'm no biologist but... for this to work wouldn't the enzyme have to move through its blood stream? Which... it can't because there's no blood flowing through it and it's most likely dead anyway. But you inject it with the enzyme and it instantly cures it despite having no ways of moving the cure through its /massive/ body. Sam is described as very buttoned up and loyal to Alterra but this situation gets her so paranoid that she is willing to blow things up? Why didn't she just secretly inject the cure while no one was looking? Why was that plan B? That seems like it should be plan A. Yet plan A was blowing the place up. Which would have only slowed things down anyway. The bacteria is still there. And they have the machinery to just get in there again since they know exactly where the Leviathan is located. Evidently, this was way too dangerous since she ended up killing herself /and/ someone else. A very out of character thing for her to do. I also don't understand the point of her potential love storyline. Feels like a lot was removed there. Also... where is everyone? As far as I know only Sam and Parvan died. Lil seems to have returned to Earth but she was already shoved aside anyway so it makes sense for her to have left. But what about everyone else? Did they die too? How? How come no one came if they died to continue the research? They saw such great potential in this find yet they just let the Leviathan... be? Dug up, easily accessible for other lifeforms while it's covered in a deadly and highly infections disease? Uhhhh??
56:32 I’m confused, it’s been a bit since I watched the other parts but did he never get the map on delta station because that clearly shows that it exists and where it is. As well as that on multiple pda’s they also mention outpost zero. So did he just never pick up on this or what? The game very clearly tells you that you should find and go to these places so saying that ‘you had no reason go here’ is just wrong imo.
While yes, that map did show the outpost, it showed way too much at once. You can't throw 8 locations at once to the player in a game like this, without something being missed, especially in this game where are large map like that just makes it very hard to find these places. And there are a lot of PDAs, so it can't be expected to remember the name of an outpost out of all of it.
@@thelostone7512 did you even try to look at the map because doesn’t show 8 locations, it shows 5. One of which being delta station AKA the place you got the map from meaning that there are effectively only 4 real locations. As well as that delta station is also the closest to the life pod so it’s definitely implied that you should go there first. Even before you get the map there’s a good chance to find it by accident if you happen to go back to the games starting point for missed resources and food. And also the map literally has its own section in the pda that’s only shared with 1 other map which is pivotal to finding the frozen leviathan. There is basically no way to ‘lose’ the map. You also say that the map is large witch is pretty misleading given how 50% of the map is nothing but water with a few icebergs. 4 isn’t a lot to remember and you don’t even have to memorize it because you have the map in your pda. It’s the only point north for crying out loud you don’t have to remember the name of the location or anything it’s that easy.
@@swift7842 I said 8 locations to make a point. I am aware there aren't actually 8 locations on the pda map. I'm not sure how most the map being water and ice changes the fact that it's large. Hell if anything, that makes it worse, since there are no landmarks to help you place yourself on the map. The lifepod doesn't show up on this map either, so not really sure how it's supposed to be implied you go anywhere. All in all, it's more confusing than actually helpful.
@@thelostone7512 firstly I must mention how your argument about there not being any landmarks is wrong is two ways. First the obvious with delta station being almost at the direct center of the map with the lifepod being almost directly north.Secondly you don’t even need any landmarks at all to find the bases, all you need is to travel north/south-west/west/south-east and you’ll easily find any of the bases with the only exception being outpost omega due to having to account for the Y axis. However that isn’t the case for outposts zero. Also the below zero map is not big and was purposely made 1/5 the size of the original Subnautica map with one of the big reasons being specifically to make finding this stuff easier. And if your overall statement about the map not being helpful then could you in any way tell me why I would go west and find the phi robotics staton and not any other direction to find nothing.
I really, really want to know what happened behind the scenes that made this game fumble so hard. How do you go through such insane story changes from the early access?
wasn't there a Developing studio change? I remember hearing about how the studio changed lead developers or something and they swapped ideas like mid-way through development. Kinda sad to see how bad the game did. I remember watching Alpha footage and being so hyped about it and then it just died instantly.
The only reason I got the sea truck was for safety and speed, the modules is a different story, aquarium for food and fabricator well it’s pretty obvious.
Yea I agree on everything you sade about the game. I really want to love it and there are so many good parts but its just not close to enough. You really did a good lob putting it in words.
If I had a nickel for every time the shadow leviathan attacked a prawn suit while the player was inside the body fabricating alien thing, I would have 2, which isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice
The reason people complained about the story (in early access) was because of all the hand holding you didn’t feel isolated Sam talked to you constantly and sent you supplies and they just assumed everyone thought the story was bad so they changed it and added Allen (the alien in your head) to do the hand holding
Hey there, I just saw your Subnautica review, and I thought I'd recommend Outer Wilds. It gave me a similar feeling of wonder that Subnautica gave, and it's a really good game to play if you know nothing about it. It truly is one of my favourite games, and I can't recommend it enough.
I actually really like the story. It is... low. The whole SAM part is unlucky, unexpected, and messed up. It is broken, and sad. Which is good, I like it.
Pro tip if you don’t know if you are wanting to go and swim for more than 75 secs with a standard tank grab two and have both filled with air and when one runs out switch to the other one. Trust me it works in below zero and probably in Subnautica
Doubt you'll see this Seth, but do you think you'll play this again, if not just in your off time? The devs released their "What the Dock" update a little while ago with custom game mode, a Seatruck dock base piece, and quashed a tonne of bugs. Dunno if they fixed the Snowfox, but I did notice some graphical bugs I previously fixed with mods now fixed in the base game. Although one slight downside, the game no longer pauses while you're naming a Beacon. Edit: Another commenter says they fixed the Snowfox and Ice Worm. Worth another go?
my though on the story flow-line (?) should be like this : Robin in search for what happen to Sam -> Meet Allan and help him and before leave with allan have optimal stories with Marguerit
first, I want to apologize for the game almost breaking at the end- I hadn't experienced that myself, but I can only imagine how that affected the ending for you. Secondly, I totally understand all your points and gripes. I wish the ice worms were more of a threat (although less annoying too), the story can feel a bit fragmented, ETC. the plot ending with curing the frozen leviathan was definitely underwhelming. Though I will say, while the beta plot had a lot of ups, it had a lot of downs as well. I don't know if you played through the ENTIRETY of the beta, but the story in that was also very fragmented, even more so than the current storyline. I'm very glad that they changed Al-an, because in the beta, he came off as an extraordinarily dense being. I'm also glad that he didn't turn out to be evil, because not gonna lie, I was getting those vibes through my first playthrough. All of my personal complaints are just nitpicks though, so I won't bore you with that. I hope you had fun with the game at least!

I like to think that Alan somehow managed to give Robin an architect body and she could live her life as one of them.

Btw it's really weird how in contrast to the first game you can take your prawn with you only into some alien facilities
@@agarthansupersoldier My guess in why they didn’t let the player do that, and tying in with how you said you could in the first game, is they never fixed the bug where the prawn suit stuck in the ground in the alien facilities, so they opted to disallow it entirely.
@@bickflick was Subnautica bz developed on development hell? Why did they have to consider such nuclear options?
@@agarthansupersoldier Y E S
@Lake Do you have a source for that? I'd like to learn more about why BZ turned out so disappointing.
17:10 Going back and watching that questline wrap up. Your character literally does this narration speech explaining why she considers this to be meaningful to her. Like she's literally trying to explain to the player that it's actually a good ending to the plotline and not anti-climactic.
The other part of this plotline "How did my sister die" starts with a letter saying "Yeah, she died in an accident" and ends with the grand discovery that "she died in an accident" Your character, when discovering the necklace and that it was a cave in, even says something akin to "surely that can't be how she died" and it's left like that as if you'll discover that something else caused her death
the story is full of these plotholes and cringe dialogue. did an intern write this??
Well, it's not 'just an accident' per se. Sam tried to sabotage Alterra's access to the cave and ended up martyring herself for her cause, so it is sort of poetic.
I mean, it's not entirely nonsensical but def anti-climatic as all hell

I feel like Maida would've been better off left as some more voicelogs. As in, leave everything exactly as it happened in the game, but make it so that she actually LEFT at some point, so you're only discovering whatever she left behind. The base, the edgy Prawn Suit, the corpses of several leviathans she fist fought herself... just no Maida.
The "tell don't show" way of story telling.
Gotcha
or maybe she could have died of kharaa shortly after arriving; that could work too, that way she’d have a reason to leave voicelogs behind beyond just maintaining her sanity in her isolation: leaving something for someone to eventually find
@@thelordofthelostbraincells You would hate the original game, Gotcha.

@@kumien5095 No, others at her station were but she was focused on the penglings and then on destroying the plague

I really want to see what they do with the Subnautica story but I think a third underwater survival game will just be too boring after two of them. So I think if they are going to continue the story in another game it should be a different genre.
I would love for the next game to be a survival on Al An s planet, trying to find survivors and cure them!
I saw a random comment on a different subnautica video saying that there was confirmation that the next game was set on land, but random commenters are a dubious source of information, and I'm too lazy to fact check

One of the two youtubers whose subnautica playthroughs I've watched repeatedly, and the only blind playthrough who I constantly snicker at.
Me trying to avoid spoilers but still subbed to Seth see this. I am weeping
I dont really mind all its problems because the whole idea of Al-An is so damn cool and he is so adorable
I like how he ends the stream 20 mins early but the video is 40 minutes late
Mr x with the perfect dramatic timing you will be missed
Honestly the feeling you get from realizing:
"My truck is 1000 meters away from me and the thing I used to get here has just exploded violently, I need to find a way back through the three giant angry fish."
Is exactly what Subnautica is about, isn't it?
I could be convinced that entire section was scripted even though it very obviously wasn't.
Wait till you see some of cut content. An Alterra gunship confronts you at the end and Maida jumps the thing with her Prawn suit to enable your escape.
I loved the original, with Robyn hiding Al-An from alive, semi-ally, semi-hostile company and sister. The sub story of Robyn balancing her career progression with her sister who doesn’t care - and could wreck it for her - was interesting to me.
A real shame.

Anyways, great series and holy f*ck! Why are you so good at being entertaining?!
Finally! Lets see how this ends.
There was more character dynamic between major characters because you didn't know who to trust but also didn't want to keep secrets.
i cant believe how they mishandled this, theres many points where i just laughed out loud at the hilariously bad storytelling.
it seems like they fired all the good devs from the first game, and only kept the designers, because the game looked great
Looking forward to your next gameplay video's seth. Hope your future plans for your channel go really well. Love your content.
you can't technically beat it without water, but with a few exceptions (like MVB) you can. someone else did do a series on that though, but i forgot who
to be fair seth, they are likely using lithium or whatever batteries in the future so the pod still burning wouldnt surprise me in the slightest even after several days or weeks depending on the size of the batteries
Love your Subnautica videos! Kept missing the streams! Shame it ended! Keep up the content!❤️
Uhhhh??
they really made a mess of the story...
27:42 the timing is perfect lmao
Prawn Suit has left the Discord!
39:36 never before did I realize that I needed to hear this sentence
The only reason I got the sea truck was for safety and speed, the modules is a different story, aquarium for food and fabricator well it’s pretty obvious.
27:27 is very important
Yea I agree on everything you sade about the game. I really want to love it and there are so many good parts but its just not close to enough. You really did a good lob putting it in words.
If I had a nickel for every time the shadow leviathan attacked a prawn suit while the player was inside the body fabricating alien thing, I would have 2, which isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice
missed out on calling the new prawn suit Mr.Y
YES!!!! FINALLY, THE FINAL EPISODE!!!!
Edit: bruh, it's still May, no gameplay till next ye- WHAT THE HECK!?!
23:14 Transformers Prime fans be like: DARK ENERGON!
24:39 Transformers Prime fans be like: RED ENERGON!
Man sethorven you have grown sesne i last saw your videos you had 76k subs now look at you
The reason people complained about the story (in early access) was because of all the hand holding you didn’t feel isolated Sam talked to you constantly and sent you supplies and they just assumed everyone thought the story was bad so they changed it and added Allen (the alien in your head) to do the hand holding
I hope he knows now that the base building and other features got backtracked to the original subnautica
I can agree so much with the final thoughts.
below zero is so much worse than the first part it is hard to imagine the same team worked on both games
Hey there, I just saw your Subnautica review, and I thought I'd recommend Outer Wilds. It gave me a similar feeling of wonder that Subnautica gave, and it's a really good game to play if you know nothing about it. It truly is one of my favourite games, and I can't recommend it enough.
this series has been amazing!!!
I think it's safe to say "Subnautica below zero: Pulled a cyberpunk"
Worth another go?
my though on the story flow-line (?) should be like this :
Robin in search for what happen to Sam -> Meet Allan and help him and before leave with allan have optimal stories with Marguerit
Using the Prawn suit over the snow fox from the get go kinda removed the Ice Worm as a gameplay mechanic. It just made noise
"took so long and ended on a mixed note" describes the game TBH.
first, I want to apologize for the game almost breaking at the end- I hadn't experienced that myself, but I can only imagine how that affected the ending for you.
