  • It's important to burp the baby after every feeding to prevent discomfort, spit up, and gas.
When you hear or feel the baby burp, it's a sign that it swallowed air during feeding, and releasing it can make the baby more comfortable.
If the baby seems irritable or is crying after feeding, try burping it to see if that helps.
To burp a baby, first ensure it's in an upright position, with its head slightly higher than its chest. Try to use a gentle and rhythmic motion, and don't apply too much pressure.
Then, pat its back gently but firmly, aiming for the area between its shoulder blades.
It's normal if your baby doesn't burp after a few minutes of patting, so keep trying for up to 10 minutes.
You might also want to try a burping technique called "over the shoulder," where you place your baby on your shoulder, with one hand supporting its bottom, and gently pat its back.
Sometimes, babies may not burp after a feeding, which is okay. If that happens, you can try again later or wait until the next feeding.
Remember, burping is essential to a baby's comfort and should be done gently and patiently.
