    I believed that this kind of skills should be given during the high school classes. So that we would have a basic understanding about how to solve problems within our life.

      I think it's too complicated and not practical. It can narrow our focus.

    What makes this re-brand better than Dr. W. Deming's Plan-Do-Study|Check-Act (PDSA/PDCA) which has been applied with industry successes for decades?

    • @DecisionSkills
      @DecisionSkills  7 дней назад +2

      Different models emphasize different factors. This produces different results. OPDCA has a different emphasis than PDCA, which is different than PDSA, which is different than DMAIC and different than OODA. IDEA places a heavier emphasis on identification of the problem, implying there is an unknown, dynamic situation unfolding. This contrasts with PDCA which, in comparison to IDEA, assumes a more static environment, a more known or stable goal. This is neither good or bad, simply different. And models that are successful in one domain, such as PDCA in the manufacturing industry, are not necessarily transferable to other domains. In the education industry, for instance, the reiterative ADDIE model has proven to be more useful than PDCA. The bottom line, if PDCA works for the goals you are trying to achieve, great. IDEA is just one alternative out of dozens available.

    Why do i have the problem
    Does it have to do something w the environment?
    What type of problem is it?
    Is there a similar problem/example

    can you use this theory with another example not related to being sick? like something totally different? thank you

    • @DecisionSkills
      @DecisionSkills  8 лет назад +12

      Hi Mikki, another example is an accident investigation. Identification is about getting to the root cause or causes, using things such as a root cause analysis, systems thinking, fish bone diagrams or a cognitive map.
      For example, why did Alaska Airlines Flight 261 crash? Because the plane lost pitch control. Why? Because the jackscrew assembly failed. Why? Because of insufficient lubrication. Why? Because the lubrication schedule had been changed. Why? The investigation traced the root cause of the crash to a series of changes to the lubrication schedule that took place over decades.
      When there might be multiple causes, a fish bone diagram can be a nice tool. And with problems that are more subjective, I find either systems thinking or a cognitive map to be helpful.
      Thanks - Richard

    Isn't the goal though is to feel better? Why is to take a pill and not to feel better?

    • @DecisionSkills
      @DecisionSkills  6 лет назад +2

      Yes, the goal is to feel better. In the video, a pill is only a potential solution. This is the nature of problem solving, in that being human, we don’t always correctly identify the cause or effective solution. There is several places where we can err. This is why after the pill is taken there is the final step of assessment. It is in the assessment that you determine if the goal to feel better was achieved.
