One of the few reviewers that acknowledges Anderson in anyway. Strange that so few people identify her as the protagonist of the film with meaningful character development and a complete story arc. Dredd serves nicely as the required deus ex machina to make sure the main character survives this hellish day at work but does not need to develop or explain about himself in the least. This movie is art
It was blocked in countries outside the US a long time ago and finally a fourth claim blocked it from being viewable at all. The appeal and number of claims were getting ridiculous and fans kept asking about it.
StitchedTogetherPics Stupid thing is, in the UK at least it was unblocked for a time earlier this year. This nonsense must be as frustrating as hell for you!
StitchedTogetherPics Yeah, I felt like this was anyways. But great job re uploading something entertaining like ur vids. Can u do Town dat dreades Sundown boots to reboots
It's a shame, that Dredd flopped so hard. It uses all the technics of modern filmmaking like 3D, slomo and colour correction, but unlike most Hollywood Action, to it's benefits. Writer Alex Garland went on to write and direct the brilliant Ex Machina and releases "Annihilation" next year. While Pete Travis went back to britain to direct smaller british films.
It didn't flop though. It did very well for the time it was out. The problem was the lack of advertising and no one talking about it. Everyone who watched it loved it and for some fuckin reason it just flew under the radar for no reason and didn't get any attention until it was too late. I think that other mainstream movies must have came out at the same time to overshadow it, and for some dumb fucking reason hollywood decided not to advertise.
@@razieltalos It’s not funny because of Stallone’s speech issues. It’s more due to how he takes pauses between each sentence even though he could say it quicker.
Andy, as a fairly consistent digester of RUclips film reviews...I NEEDED to tell you how absolutely incredible your content is, video after video there is not one that I haven't found hilarious, insightful, and expertly crafted. Before I finish my fan slobber, you should know that I personally think "Evil" Andy is one of the funniest characters to ever grace not just RUclips, but really any medium. I hope you know how much joy your material brings us, and I of course also hope to see new releases cause you're just too damn good :).
The new Dredd was great, Lena Headey was an AMAZING villain and the look and style of the movie was really well done. I so hoped for a sequel but obviously audience didnt agree and the movie flopped.
I think the problem wasn't that the audience didn't agree. In my experience, most people who saw the film, with the exception of very rare Stallone die-hards, really enjoyed it. The problem was the marketing. It really, really sucked. With just one trailer and little coverage, a lot of people told me they didn't even know that a Dredd film had been released until after it had left theaters. It's found a hugely dedicated cult audience at least, and there is a TV series that's out in a couple of years, so that's something.

Hey idk if you will see this but I honestly think you are one of the best channels I've ever seen you are very funny and make awesome intelligent reviews I just resubsribed on my new RUclips but I've been watching this channel for years keep up the awesome work
Andy's bit of saying "law" over and over in silly ways reminds me of the "they took our jobs" gag in South park, where by the end they're just mumbling gibberish 😆
I just discovered your channel and I have seen nothing like it. Awesome, and I love your intro! I loved Dredd, gritty, violent, smart, but kept within its wheelhouse. I understand that there is a Netflix series in the works likely with Urban and Thirlby. If wishes were horses?
I blame the Stallone version for the box office failure of the remake Dredd is an epic, but relatively lesser known character, so I'm sure most people thought "oh god, they remade that piece of garbage movie? WHY?" rather than "oh, I hope get Dredd right this time"
I'm amazed how much I love Andy's channel. Usually RUclips characters get boring and old because of how cheap and predictable the performers are. But Andy has great comic timing and solid reviews
I love the Stallone version just as much as the 2012 movie. I just have a soft spot for cheese and great set design and effects (seriously the movie has awesome atmosphere)
I have found that 'Dredd' is probably the most unsuccessful movie to recommend to anyone of people in and around my generation. Nobody is willing to accept that the new version can be any good due to the original.
Stallone, when he has the helmet on, looks perfect as Judge Dredd. As much as I did like Dredd 3D, Karl Urban has this silly looking frowny face the whole time that doesn't look natural.
I think it’d been hilarious if Urban Dredd said “I knew you’d say that” to someone who insulted him. Or “I knew they’d do that” after they leveled the one floor with the mini guns.
Nice, I never got a chance to watch your review of Dredd and the original is a guilty pleasure of mine. Thanks for uploading it, another quality episode.
Wish we could get another Dredd. Audiences really dropped the ball on this one. It probably didn’t do well because fans of the comic remembered how bad the first movie was and assumed we were going to get a repeat of last time
The newer Dredd movie was one of the most fun time i had in the theater ever and i was in the company of two of my best friends. Great film experience.
Ironically, the '95 version has costumes & props closer to 2000AD. Rico was even his brother in the comic. But the rest of the execution was hot garbage. Meanwhile Dredd 3D captured the feel & setting much better despite the less cartoony/more modern tacticool gear. The saddest part about about Dredd 3D not getting traction is that it was the first of a planned trilogy with the last one actually doing the arc with Anderson versus Judge Death.
As a person, Rob Schneider does not seem so bad (I approve of his concerned stance on vaccinations). As an actor though, I can't say that I ever found him really interesting... then again I haven't seen him in many movies. :S Great review, as usual! I look forward to any further ones that you wish to do.
Hey bud I love your work I think you do an amazing job and its very funny lol I remember in you were once talking to somebody in a comment section about doing a boots to reboots with "the thing" the original Jon carpenters version and the prequel in 2011 I was wondering if you were still gunna do that? And as I said great job bub this is hands down my favorite channel
StitchedTogetherPics that's cool. do what your doing. cuz you do a damn good job in the things you make. and cant wait to see what you make next.Wish the best of luck. Take care
Stallone's Dredd is basically just John Spartan with less charisma. Armand Assante as Rico was over-the-top crazy and IMO was better than Dredd. But Karl Urban played the character a lot better. I liked the Angel Family in the 95 version though.
is it just me or is this out of order ? cause the whole bit with the doc in the basement being locked up turned out to be freddy kruger in disguise. i just realized this along with andy's background being the old background as well.
I really enjoyed the Dredd reboot!! I was completely unaware that fans created a petition to have a sequel made. I surely would have signed it. Although it seems unlikely, I hope that a sequel is made someday....preferably with the same actors.
Currently, there is a Judge Dredd TV series in development, at least. While we don't know whether it will continue from the film exactly, EVERYONE (including the producers) wants Karl Urban to come back. He's shown plenty of interest, but he's also said that it has to be done right for him to come back. We can only hope.
I think what hurt this movie the most was the heavy marketing on the 3D, which was a doomed gimmick that made the movie seem desperate. I didn't got to the theater to see this one just because of that and only now have I seen the movie and realized it was actually pretty good. It's a shame that things worked out that way. It had the right idea of scope too. It takes place in one mega-block versus one gang and is essentially a routine drug bust that feels because because all major crimes have been upped in scale in Mega-City One. It also had the common sense not to really focus on Dredd himself too much as a character, but rather the world he's in while he delivers justice in it. Just a shame the gimmick had to get in the way of that.
PLEASE. Make a "The Shining" Boots to Reboots episode, where you talk about the original Kubrick and the Stephen King Miniseries. That would be AWESOME!
It seriously is a real shame that Dredd 3d didn't make more.. everyone I know whose EVER seen it says that it's amazing and easily beats out the older Stallone version.

The biggest complaint fans say about the film is he never takes his helmet off, well they're wrong. In the comics he does take his helmet off a few times, but it's usually covered up or he's in a disguise. However in one story arc when Dredd is no longer a judge and he went out into the Cursed Earth, he was seen without his helmet. Besides there's a lot of things they got right from the comics such as Dredd's outfit and the look of Mean Machine. I've never been a die hard comic book fan, just because some people hate a film doesn't mean I have to hate it as well. If anyone fails to understand this, then they don't know what freedom of speech is.
