Big First Lite fan here. I totally agree with you. Your systems are legit and DO WORK. I live and hunt Idaho and you are spot on with the layering you talked about. My next purchase will likely be the Uncompadre 2.0 or Sawtooth. Very informative and lay out of the video was great. I'll suggest this to some guys that ask me all the time about First Lite. My Sitka hunting buddies alway wonder how I am so comfortable with less and stay dry hiking the Idaho mountains. Great video, keep up the good work.
I'm always cold from sweating. Hunting in Southern Ontario Canada, Turkey through to Whitetail at the end of December, archery, tree stand and stocking. If my goal is moving the moisture away from my skin no matter the hunt. Would you suggest using just The Wick as my base layer and building from that point ? Thank you. Good luck hunting.
Great video! I just purchased some first lite gear for this season! I hunt in the northeast, VT/NY.. and always been wanting a layering system. Last year I purchased a few KUIU items but first lite is more reasonably priced! Anything will blend is my go to! I got a my gear in Cipher camo!
Early/Mid/Late season hunting, or early/late Oct/Nov/etc. doesn't tell us much if we don't live in AZ or Idaho......when you review the 2021 FL line, could you mention temperature levels along with the E/M/L Season? Celcius for us folks north of the border would be a nice to have, but not strictly necessary....we Canucks can convert from the archaic Farheinburger scale to Celcius. LOL Came here due to your buddy's, Late to the Game Outdoors, recommendation.
I have. Both the Obsidians and Corrugate Foundry pants are awesome. Corrugate Foundry pants are a smidge thicker than the original Corrugates. Love the heat dumps on them though.
Super informative, and very helpful. Josh, I was curious to know what you might suggest for someone that is putting together a system on a budget? I'm going to be hunting in the Northeast (NY), May, Oct-Nov of this year. Looking for key items to put into the kit. Any suggestions would be great! Cheers!
Thanks! When I started building a layering kit, I started with base layers and pants. I built it out from there. It took me years when I first started, so I feel ya. Each year, I'd get a few new pieces to add to the kit. For the colder temps, I'd suggest checking out FL's Sanctuary Jacket along with some base layers.
@@DialedinHunter Right on! It's definitely tough to try and figure out all of the needs, sometimes it can be really overwhelming with gear choices. It's cool to get information like this from someone who is using it all firsthand, and know's what's up! I appreciate you taking the time to answer! I will check out those selections! Thanks, man!
@Estevan Romero For sure! That makes the most sense. The hard part for me is where I live not many companies if any at all carry First Lite gear just yet. But I agree 100%
@Estevan Romero Thanks! that is very helpful information. I'm working on it now, and as you said starting with the basics, and thinking about where I will be hunting, and during what time of year to determine everything else for my kit.
@Estevan Romero I appreciate that advice, my friend. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. I agree and believe that is the best way to go about building out my kit.
Sitting here wearing my Wick top watching your video. My one complaint about FL products like the Chama hoody and other aerowool products are their durability. I get random tears in these tops and the cuff on my Chama hoody has a long tear in it. Other than that, they are pretty great. The brambler gaiters are top notch! The Corregate Guide Pants are great, EXCEPT, why only one rear pocket? Great video, thanks for posting.
I elk and mule deer hunt in Colorado, generally October and November. I have a medium weight puffy jacket from Kuiu that I wear as a mid layer, but I haven't found the right outer layer that will give me some warmth and water/snow protection. Any thoughts on which First Lite jacket you would run in this situation? Thanks
Man, I'd probably run the Chamberlain! Great warmth and DWR protection on the outside. The Uncompaghre puffy could do well too, but it would just depend on how cold it was that time of year. Chamberlain is definitely going to be warmer.
Thanks for a very informative video!! After hunting my entire life I've just recently decided to make the investment and buy some quality gear. There is a lot of information out there. What made you go with first Lite over some of the other bigger brands? Thanks!
@@DialedinHunter Have you experienced any premature wear and tear of the merino base layers? Such as tears from thorns or wear under your pack straps? That seems to be the only issue I hear about with First lite. Thanks again!

Thanks Jason! A good layering system is unreal. It's absolutely a tool and a good one at that. Good luck out there. 👊🏼

Yes, that is a fantastic starting point!
Great detailed review. I’m a tree stand whitetail hunter but took some very informative information from this. Thanks!
That's great to hear! Good luck out there! 👊🏼

Have you upgraded to any of the foundry line or the guide lite pant?
I have. Both the Obsidians and Corrugate Foundry pants are awesome. Corrugate Foundry pants are a smidge thicker than the original Corrugates. Love the heat dumps on them though.
I also have the Guide Lite pants. They are good too, but I usually opt for the regular ones. The Lites seem a little louder.
Just picked up the furnace and sawtooth for 2nrifle Colorado.seems good
Awesome!
So do you run the puffy pants as the most outside layer or do you wear something over it
I run them on the outside.
Awesome man! Looking forward to 2021 roll out.
You and me both!

I would love to buy an entire system of FL gear, but when I priced out what I'd want it was like $1000.
I had to save up and build a few parts at a time myself. But its the best system I've ever had.
I work at jimmy john’s, save up big suit guy

I mix and match brands I found the jet stream vest provided the best durability wind proof and very rain resistant not waterproof but pretty close
Great video man keep it up!
Thanks Tyler!

That's awesome and thank you! There's a lot of great gear out there, but I just felt like I personally identified more with First Lite.
@@DialedinHunter Have you experienced any premature wear and tear of the merino base layers? Such as tears from thorns or wear under your pack straps? That seems to be the only issue I hear about with First lite. Thanks again!
Great video as usual. I’m also here In AZ what do you think about corrugate jacket. I’m tired of my Marino getting snagged in cat claw.
Thanks! I don’t normally wear the corrugate jacket, but I have heard of others wearing it over their merino when brush busting for sure.
what is your sizing in the first lite stuff
For base layers I'm a Medium. For outerwear I'm usually a Large.
Do you get these free?
