Any Tom Clancy fans out there??
Nope but the ship is HUGE, Dino Mamma,
Correction i like one novel i read from him but i won't consider exactly a fan
Absolutely! I enjoy his work. ❤️
Great video and yes i have this movie on dvd and this is one of my favorite movies and i have a Jack Ryan Trilogy dvd set and that movie is in that set but i never play any of the games yet...
Hell Yeah!!!!!
Sean Connery. The only russian submarine captain with a scottish accent. RIP.
forever the best scottish-russian captain! RIP ❤️
Huge fan of your channel. Your lucky that Toys R Us is still open around. Where i live in Glagow it's closed.
It actually kinda works. Ramius was Lithuanian, so when they transition from Russian to English, it would make sense he has an accent compared to the rest of the crew.
SHUBMARINE YOU SHAY
Sean played a Russian with a Scottish accent. An Irish man with a Scottish accent. And a Spaniard with a Scottish accent... but nobody ever gets upset about it, thats the mark of a true legend ha ha.
Laura: "Let me just see how efficient my blowing is."
Sub: **barely moves**"
Laura: "Okay, we're going places!"
lol it was optimism 😂
@@LauraLegends Oh relax, we were all happy to see how effiicient your blowing was. :D
@@LauraLegends I wish you got an air pump or visited a florist. It'd been less heartache.
you had me at 'I almost passed out blowing'
this whole video was a big that's what she said joke
One of the best movies of all time. I used to watch this over and over as a kid.
It's almost like you catch something new every time -- lots of things to research and look up regarding this movie too!
Tom Clancy was actually investigated by the CIA shortly after this book was published because of the amount of accuracy in it.
they also had to ask the navy permission to get clearance on this movie in case secrets were revealed 😱😱😱
@@LauraLegends Ain't it weird how fiction can closely resemble reality?
Somehow that doesn't surprise me in the least
@@karlsmith2570 i suppose some x-files seried went the same route
Dr. Steve Piecenik helped co-wtite his novels, as the doc worked with over 6 presidents, and has experience with negotiations and psychology. He helped rescue lots of prisoners as well.
The movie Patriot Games was based upon Dr. Steve Piecenik.
My favorite series is Rainbow Six.
Hi Laura. Wow! That's awesome! Kudos to your friend for the awesome gift. I absolutely love "The Hunt For Red October" which is one of my favorite movies from the late, great Sean Connery. This video of yours is fascinating and amazing. Thanks to your Dad and family who had served in the military for their service. Both my late father and oldest brother had served in the military as well. My Dad was in the Air Force and my brother Dennis had served in the Marines. This Friday marks the three year anniversary of my Dad's passing from cancer. It's going to be a tough day for me. I plan to get through it nonetheless. That sub is very impressive. Thanks for sharing your video. Well done as always and you look lovely as always. It looks good on your ceiling. Way to decorate your toy room. Have a great weekend my lovely friend and stay safe out there. Hug your furry pals for me. Be well my dear.
Much love and respect to your family and all their contribution to their country! Friday is certainly going to be a tough day for you but I hope you can celebrate his memory and keep him alive through remembrance! Sending you lots of love and hugs Ed! ❤️❤️
@@LauraLegends That's very sweet of you to say Laura. Sending you and the furry ones lots of hugs and love as well. ❤️❤️🙏🙏
Dante and Muffin stealing the camera time since long ago, they are the best
they are 😂
The best part of any collection, is hearing stories about a particular item in said collection. I loved your story about growing up with The Hunt for Red October, along with learning more about your family. Very entertaining as always Laura. :)
thank you so much David! ❤️
@@LauraLegends You're welcome Laura. :)
When you said let's see how good my blowing is that's what she said 😂 i about died laughing
lol I knew there were going to be a few of those jokes in this video
Awesome video as always Laura! Tell your brother and father I thank them for my service! Military runs deep in my family as well, dad was in the Navy, grandfather served in Vietnam, and my great grandfather was in the Navy during WWII!
love and respect to your family Austin! 🤗
"Welcome to the New World, Sir." - Jack Ryan
That line gave me chills.
I wish someone could have seen Montana though 😭
@@LauraLegends that was Sam Neil's character that wanted to live in Montana
@@LauraLegends he did see Montana...In Jurassic Park.🙃🙃
"Ryan, some things in here do not react well to bullets"
Awesome video Laura😀
ssssank you!
The Hunt for Red October was the first tape to have a RED Amray tape casing as well in video stores.
oo interesting 🤓
@@LauraLegends As a matter of fact, I STILL have my VHS copy of Red October with the Red casing.
I served in the US Marines back in the 90's. We just had our Veteran's Day on wednesday. Your families service is incredibly appreciated, even from down here.
As Ramirez said to Mac in Predator, ''You think you coulda found something bigger?'' =P
hahaha 😂 🐷
My dad put this on the day that Connery passed in remembrance and told me "If you like the Bismarck so much than you'll like this movie" and man he wasn't lying.
I am guessing you've seen the movie Sink the Bismark as well as listened to the Johnny Horton song?
Great movie ❤️ so sad he passed away
@@LauraLegends You should also check out "Crimson Tide" with Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman if you want to see another great submarine movie.

To paraphrase a line from the movie, "For all I know, I'm sending the dimensions of the Playmate of the Month." 😀

I love where Cap Mancuso and the Dallas are preparing to fire upon Red October. Something about that scene just really stuck with me.
for us here in the United States Memorial day "the last Monday in May" is exactly the same thing, however Nov 11 is Veterans Day I myself served in the U.S. Air Force and will forever be a proud Airman.
I salute your family's service and sacrifices.
Tom Clancy was actually my neighbor growing up in southern Maryland. He had a real tank in his yard and other cool war memorabilia! Great guy👍🇺🇸
My dad worked in Tom Clancy's house back in the late 80s/early 90s. Said he got to talk to him for a while. Unfortunately my dad really didn't know enough about him to be very excited. But his wife I believe told my dad that 'most people didn't get to see this' when she opened a box full of books that were delivered and were supposedly just published. Dunno if they were proofs or author copies. It may have been the book in this video.
I think this might be my fav video of yours. Great timing.. remembrance day.. mr. Connery's passing.. oh it's a good movie too. Love hearing the story about your dad. stay safe Laura and keep up the good work!
Thank you for your service Laura’s dad and brother! My dad and grandpa were in the navy too 👍👍
Aw thank you! And thank you to your dad and grandpa too!
Awesome, I didn’t know this existed. With this book I rediscovered my love of reading. Waited for the new releases of his books after. Many duplicate copies (a good portion first editions) of each in storage along with the matching board games. I guess that makes me a fan 😂. Thanks for your informative and entertaining videos
Was born and raised a Navy brat, moved out west to Montana years ago, and now the scene where the CO dies and wishes he could have seen Montana, brings a tear to my eye.
right when I read Montana I was going to say something about that haha -- awww!!! 😢
Can you pour one out on the ground for Connery?
My dad’s video store had all kinds of fun inflatable promo swag items like this. In addition to this one, I remember... an inflatable Godzilla for Godzilla 1985, an inflatable USS Enterprise for one of the Star Trek films from the early 80s, an inflatable shark for Jaws: The Revenge, a large inflatable pumpkin for Friday the 13th Part 7, and an inflatable crocodile for Crocodile Dundee.
Great video and loved Hunt for Red October as well. Thank you to your family members for their service in the military. My oldest sister was in the US army and my older brother was in the US Navy.
A new Laura Legends video always makes my day. Awesome find Laura!
this movie was the reason why i became a Tom Clancy and Sean Connery fan. since watching this movie for the first time at 10 yrs old in 1994 i have watched every tom clancy movie ever made, as well as read every book and played most of the video games.
OMG! That is so cool! I love the movie, just rewatched it again like 3 weeks ago! Seeing things like that makes me miss video rental shops even more! I remember going to our local video rental end 1980’s and just looking at all the cover art!
Great item and Borat impersonation! Thanks for service shout out. My roots are from Poland and my Great Grandfather brought my Grandfather to Scotland in 1898. My Grandfather fought in the Highland Light Infantry during the 1st world war and survived The Somme. I served in the British Parachute Regiment. What I’m trying to say is that your words and those of people like you mean a lot. Have a great day.
Much respect for sharing about your family's history and service. Huge Red October fan myself! 😁😍
I now want one whole vid of you doing your best Connery impression!
That’s a very cool piece. I had no idea it existed. I have a scale model of it but it’s only about a foot long lol. Great share. Thank your family and all who served.
Wow, can’t believe that I’m seeing the Red October promo piece again! I worked for BlockBuster Video, for several years, when this movie was released. I was often given many of our promotional items to take home including the October. It actually hung from my bedroom ceiling for years but unfortunately it was lost over time. Can’t believe its worth $100.00 now! Thanks, Laura, for bringing back some great memories of my video rental days & all your entertaining videos! Dante Rocks!
Thank you for the Vid. I served 20 years in Navy, one grandfather Air Force WW2, other grandfather Army who landed 1st wave D-Day assault with Royal Winnipeg Rifles. Lest we forget. Bless you
Out of respect for the veterans of WW1 there was no chan-chan. I can respect that.
yes, we went classy today out of respect ❤️
Love the content! Hoping your migraines are not so bad this year! This weather changibg everyother day is messing with mine!
So awesome 😎 I want one! Thank you so much for sharing 😊
my pleasure!
Congratulations to your family best wishes to you and your family great content as always great video as always love from south Texas
The Hunt for Red October is number 5 in my top 10 favourite films.
I use that "ping" quote all the friggin time!! "I ashked for a ping, Mr. Vurshelli. One ping only, pleashe" 🤣
I've always said it, that Laura Legends has a mighty impressive set of lungs!! Great video my friend.
Sometimes Laura you are too adorkable for words. This vid was awesome. I have fond memories of this movie. My dad loved it so much. I was a Crimson Tide movie guy myself. Red October was great though. I'm considering tracking this down myself for the sheer size and display. Using a pump though lol. Thanks for showing this standout piece.
Def be on the lookout for it! Very unique piece for your collection!
I didn’t read the title of your video carefully and I thought you were going to blow up the Red October as in MAKE IT EXPLODE! 😀 Great video! I thought your room lights looked like the bridge of the Red October and the USS Dallas!
One of my top favorite movies, could watch this over and over and it'll never get old! Thanks for sharing the sub display piece, that is so awesome. Almost complete in all of Tom Clancy's novels, just missing The Red Rabbit. All of the Jack Ryan series are amazing, as well as the Netflix Jack Ryan show! Keep up the great videos. Now I want that sub too.
Lol... That's so funny about your dad. I had a similar experience with that movie, but for a different reason. My dad was in the Air Force and a huge military history buff. I had rented this movie for him to enjoy, but because he was nearly deaf, he had to blast the audio. It was so loud that I had to leave the house until it was over lol. To this day, I've only seen the movie twice and can't get the blasting audio out of my mind 🙄
Thank you for your family and all they do for the country !!!
Red October movie is AWESOME!!!
I KNOW RIGHT?? 🤓
I loved this movie! I was a nerdy little model builder as a kid and begged my mom to buy me the sub model after I saw the movie.
Such a rad find Laura! Congrats.
😲😲😲 what a find!!! Thanks for honoring veterans.Dope movie. It is indeed, one of the greatest movie theme songs ever.
And Happy Veteran's Day here in America to your dad! Serving 40 years is absolutely astonishing!
One of the best films ever and your story about why it's close to you is great. You're the best Canadian lady!
Your toy room is awesome, great lighting effect as well, nice one. Love your humour. 😜
Enjoyed both the book and the film Red October but my favorite Clancy adaptation is A Clear and Present Danger. Thanks for sharing Laura. You rock.
Thats amazing. The Hunt for the Red October is one favs too. I read the book and several other of Tom Clancy’s books. I also have the book on audio book cd.
I have been playing quite a few Tom Clancy games over the years. Most of the Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon and what not. These games usually have twists and turns in the story that take you by surprise without being too convoluted. As for your Red October sub, I think it'd benefit from being a little more inflated as it bends a little bit under its own weight. I also would lenghten a wee bit the wires to have it leave the ceiling more. Otherwise that IS a nice centerpiece to have, and glad you find that much joy and memories surging up just looking at it. That's what collectibles are meant for!
Love movie promotional stuff, especially like this sub that I'didnt even know existed. Such a cool find Laura!
Very awesome. I look forward to seeing a "one ping only" scene reproduction in classic Laura Legend fashion. I used to play the game on my original grey gameboy which I bought from my dad with said game included. Best day & Best wishes to you & yours.
I always learn something watching this channel ❤️
🤗🤗
I couldn't click on a video fast enough! I love the Hunt for Red October! What an awesome thing to have, I really want one of those! Once again....jealous!!! 😁 if I had one I would make little inflatable torpedoes coming out the front 😄
When I was in the 5th or 6th grade I went to a place called OMSI in Portland Oregon and one of the exhibits there was the USS Blueback submarine and my class toured it. The only thing i remember about it was that it was in the Hunt for Red October. Apparently it's still in Portland
whooooaa cool! What an awesome memory!
The USS Razorback, a Balao-class submarine of the Sandlance variant, is about 30 minutes away from me in our inland maritime museum. I gotta give mad respect to sub crews and their boats, especially those older ones (no space to breathe in those things lol).
Looking gorgeous as always and awesome submarine. Well done for blowing it up
Thank you!!
@@LauraLegends your very welcome
Same here in the United States we call it Veterans Day 🇺🇸
Is that in May or something? when do you guys observe that?
@@LauraLegends November 11th
@@LauraLegends November 11th, The same day as Canadian Rememberance Day !
As I recall from history class the treaty to end WWI was signed on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th year.
Oh, and as much as I adore you Laura, I'd love to meet your dad and hear his stories of 40 years in the military!
@@LauraLegends Your are thinking Memorial Day for the soldiers that never made it back home. Veterans Day remembers ALL veterans including active duty ones.
Dante stop licking the sub..LOL
he can't control his licker lol
Amazing find! Clancy 80's books were fantastic - RED STORM RISING!!!!
Yess! the Hunt for Red October is one of my favorite movies. I remember going to the movie premiere when I was 12 years old. There was a giant inflatable submarine on the roof of the movie theatre.
Looks cool Laura! Great film! I have seen a few Tom Clancy films.
I loved this movie when it was new (and the all-red video tape) and did read the book. I remember my best friend's dad, though, was a NAVY guy who worked on subs and lectured both of us about how the silent drive is impossible the way they describe it.
Thank you to your family for serving your country. Laura my mothers side was all Navy as well & my fathers side was also in concentration camps in Poland. I still have Splinter Cell an awesome game. That sub is EPIC! Great vid. Cheers👍🏻🍻
One of your best videos, you clearly love this item. Hope you have recovered from blowing it up. Here in New Zealand (and Australia) veterans are mainly remembered on ANZAC Day, 25th April, which was the day the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula in 1915, during WW1. Remembrance Day, 11th November, is therefore not as important as in other countries.
Love the movie, played The sum of all fears and the Division.
🤓👍
1:00) ‘showing you BUYS’ or ‘showing you GUYS’ 🤣
The Hunt For Red October is my favourite Tom Clancy film adoptions. I've read Rainbow 6, The Bear and the Dragon, The Hunt For Red October and The Sum Of All Fears
Reminded me of the days as a Sea Scout , and blowing up heavy rubberised 7ft ex navy air beds in camp , the whole Troop was exhausted just from that chore alone !
Thats such an obscure but awesome piece of movie Fandom. I've always wanted some of the promotional cardboard cutouts displays that they use at movie theaters for a nerd cave. Never got a chance to read the books but the movies are usually great and I have played the games.
promo items are some of my favorite pieces! It's a great thrill trying to track them down too!
@@LauraLegends definitely, I can imagine the light head u got from blowing that thing up. I never knew they made those and I dont ever remember seeing them in any video store. Hey did they release the new Dune figures in Canada yet. I saw them at target here in Arizona.
This is my favourite Tom Clancy film, and I completely forgot about that blowup sub... nice find!!
A Classic. Another good one is "Crimson Tide".
Ahh nerds and innuendo, gotta love it. 😂 Played a few of the games, watched most of the movies.
One of John McTiernan's lethal three along with Predator and Die Hard, the man was unstoppable back then. Easily one of cinemas wildest rides and one of my all time favorite films.
If it were anyone else I would have said "get an air compressor, it's faster" but watching you blow it up yourself was, ah hem, fun lol.
Rest in peace, Mr. Connery.
I went to the local premiere of this movie. It still is, very cool. Good for your family for keeping your country safe. Nice submarine. In a future video, make sure you show us the "drilled" version. 👻
This was a blast from the past. I remember my local movie rental store had that inflatable display
That is so so cool!! Wow one ping one ping only!!! Love the movie have it on dvd grate film and yes very intense that's the way to make em thanks for a cool video and iv nery seen it before so cool.
that's so awesome. that A great item. and love your toy room
These were promo items given to video stores like FYE, or Suncoast, to hang up near the massive cardboard VHS display that would have been near the counter. Most of the time these promos were the display itself or would have been accompanied by a life sized cardboard standers. Paramount did something different with Red October and the results speak for themselves. Congrats on securing such an awesome collectible!
Awesome video Laura! Much love and Aloha from Hawaii!
I wish I was in Hawaii right now lol
@@LauraLegends Don't know really if you do. Most of my favorite collectible stores closed down because of covid and still stage 2 for lockdown. Be safe out there and take care! You are awesome!!!
@@LauraLegends You would fit in really well over there honey. I bet that you could rock a bikini too! 😍❤️
I’ve been a huge Tom Clancy fan since I was allowed to read adult novels. The Hunt For Red October came out when I was young and it was a big deal at my house. I think my favorite Clancy novel is Rainbow Six although it’s also one of the longest.
I have read only one Tom Clancy book. It was called Red Storm rising (his hypothesis on how WW 3 would play out) . The first 60 ish pages were so dry I almost just put it down & never looked back. I am so glad I didn't! what a great novel. Unfortunately, it is probably so dated now it wouldn't have the same impact for someone reading it today. Hunt for Red October is a great movie as well. I have also enjoyed Patriot Games as well as Clear & Present Danger. Maybe one day I will try & read the books.
One of my favorite movies of all time. Too bad Baldwin refused to continue with the character, although Ford did a pretty good job too. By the way, your channel is awesome!!!
As a vet from Canada aswell, I thank you. Great show
I have never read a Tom Clancy novel but I love the movies. In another lifetime when I wrote for Movie Pilot I did an article on the top Sean Connery movies and I believe I placed The Hunt For Red October at #1 and actually went out and actively looked for the movie on dvd to watch it again and give it a proper evaluation before making that determination. I hunted for the Hunt for Red October if you will.
It's a really cool submarine and is cool in the collection
thank you!
I have the computer game Tom Clancy SSN And I used to have the Red October plastic model but I was a kid then kind of played with it and ended up having it fall apart. When I was younger I used to collect micro machines and would always try to get submarines that looked similar to a Typhoon class if i could not find a Typhoon class replica.
Some of the information that I have read years ago suggests that it's called Caterpillar drive because the shaft of the drive is lined with a flexible tube with a special liquid with metal particles in it so that it can move the water using a magnetic field. The wiki explanation that I read suggested that it was an impeller which is just a ducted propeller inside of the hull but that would actually still make noise.
Contrary to the vague description, using magnetics and electricity on water would create a lot of bubbles and noise.
Ya I need to do more research on the exact mechanism of the caterpillar drive -- apparently China perfected this type of propulsion lately but with every experiment this concept is tweaked I believe by different countries. It's SUPER interesting stuff. I need to read up on the latest research regarding it
@@LauraLegends Thanks a lot though 😆 now I want an inflatable red october.
Clancy seemed to try and add some item developed from cutting edge (futuristic) technology in each of his earlier books. It appears he did some fairly good research and “if” the items were never developed in the same way, they mostly did become possible. For this type of drive with ships, set aside any “cost” issues, it is just slow with limited uses in the manner most see it. But what if the shape was changed some and hydro reactive fuel (often metals) was added at optimal usage? 🤔 if designed effectively, a higher efficiency magneto... drive with a higher pressure ramjet afterburner feel with the lesser sound. Still ships may not be the best use, if it could even work. But think those multimillion dollar and couple of tons each torpedos that can benefit especially with newer battery technology
Laura, U crack me up and I love your channel 😎😎!!! AWESOME JOB!!!
I have never seen Red October. Now you have my curiosity at an all time level. I'm going to watch this film.
For some reason, The Hunt for Red October was the only Tom Clancy book I've read. Growing up I've read mostly Stephen King books, but I am a fan of The Hunt for Red October book and movie.
My dad read all his books. He and I were both big fans of the movie. Great cast!
oh wow! And Aareed!-- Great cast indeed!
That is a lot of air blown. I think I would have taken a break in between so not to feel like I would pass out. GG Laura on not passing out!
Laura, I too have many close relatives, grandfather, uncles, and cousin who have served, and I am very proud of. And I have a 2nd cousin who was raised Jewish, and though most of the family do not no anything about it, the family came to America, literally within weeks before the Nazis took over where they lived. It's "funny" that not a single shred of paper that could identify the family one or the other as Jewish survived. My 2nd cousin is pretty sure that we are Prussian Jew, but other than being raised Jewish, he has no proof. Apparently his parents refused to talk about anything related to their life before America. Until I had met my 2nd cousin and we discussed this, I was always told that we were full blooded Norwegian. Even our sur name is a common derivative of a longer more common Norwegian name.
That is wicked cool! I watched the movie yesterday.
Ok, I'm jealous , i never knew those existed..... I remember getting the movie poster shortly after the movie came that sub would have looked so cool hanging above that poster ...lol....I also have the TSR board game .... I'm also a big Clacy fan , I have most of his hard back novels
