An effect I like to use for that wobbly tape effect, as well as emulated tape saturation and compression is called Chow Tape. It’s free, the UI is super intuitive, and I use it in nearly all of my beats for some extra drive
I love how you show the stuff you don’t like before removing it. Like you’ll say you’re gonna try something and then you show it and say you don’t like it and remove it, but you still show it. I love that.
Could you make a tutorial on making beats like the ones on the forever story by JID. Songs like 2007 and Stars have some of my favourite production of the 2020s
I wanna see Navie D in the Conductor Williams beat competition next month. Why? To see and hear what an experienced producer makes behind the scenes and to really know what a beat competition beat should sound like in the space of sample based production.
Naive, as a broke beat maker who only has garage band and a MacBook, I want to thank you for your vids. You always give out beneficial info and it’s truly a blessing for me bro!
The only thing that I think would have given it a more raw Neo Boom Bap sound would have been to cut up a Drum Break and leave slightly more tail-end on each slice; instead of trying to emulate that sound on standalone samples through distortion, etc. There’s something about making a drum pattern when your kick has a hi-hat or cymbal artifact attached to it and you’re forced to get creative with that. You could also go the step further by creating a break on your own with “acoustic” sounding plugins like Studio Drummer or Garageband’s Live-Kits and then resampling that loop, if you are trying to avoid sampling from others’ records.
It's crazy that your videos at the same time teach me a lot of things, and they are the most entertaining I get from youtube. I really love you (like a friend)
Bro that HiHat tip really helped soooo much. Thank you so much. U were my first channel I watched when I started learning how to make beats. Now I can make classic Dilla/Nujabes beats but also Griselda style beats. Can't wait to keep experimenting with different genres 🔥👑
i love the neo boom bap sound on the samples. one of the things i like to get that gritty sound is run a 20 year old yamaha through guitar pedals. i like to usually go into some fuzz distortion then a chorus and a phaser.
Not sure if you want the breath but getting a lot of sibilance on this video ... very bright sound and love your camera work looks very professional -- but did notice the sound was super crisp not sure if it is what you are going for. Its probably just me, but the s's and f's are distracting me. Experimenting with the video or tieing in the sound and video.. at 9:30 what is going on sepia chrono? interesting but not sure if this is intentional art or not. You do you these things just popping out at me wondering if they are intentional. Curious how the sound will change if you angled the mic if it would cut down your sibilance a little.
Special interests, monologuization and the tendency to overexplain is the symptom of... um... youtubing. Thanks for overexplaining I just needed a bit of inspiration in fixing a beat!

definitely don’t quantize the drums play them on your own so there is a more human feel and not so every kick or snare is right on beat that’s what a lot of producers who do this genre emphasize the most such as conductor williams. he doesn’t do any sort of quantization or a bpm and just lets the music flow how it does.
Anybody wanna see a beat battle between Navie D vs Busy Works BeatS? I just noticed BWB's just lifted this tutorial with the exact nail and similar title. And my answer to my question is yes, Navie needs to destroy BWB.

Drums are in perfect timing with the sample, it’s a little bit different from classic boom bap patterns
the loop is not a sample or soul inspired and is also far more experimental. strong usage of effects too
