- This is my re-creation of the classic 80's synth pop soundtrack "Axel F" by Harold Faltermeyer from the film Beverly Hills Cop. Kids, this is the original 1985 version, not the horrendous Crazy Frog cover!
All of the sounds, drums and effects are generated by the Roland FA-08 (FA-06) using their SuperNATURAL synth technology. The sequencing is done in Reaper and then played in one take using a single "Studio Set". It's mind blowing what a modern synthesizer workstation is capable of!
Nailed it Woody!
That was just too awesome! Axel Foley would be proud! Great job! That Roland FA 08 is one bad as mosheen and you play it well!
Great job. Super synth sounds!
Awesome!!!
... naaaah...
Awesome!!!
... naaah...
Just perfect, period.
thanks max, much appreciated
I've deleted my quesion about the drums, as I hadn't read the complete description :-) In any case, amazing work.
Well done! And saved the best for the last: a studio set named "please like" and a sound named "& subscribe" :D. Who could resist that?
This was my number one "demo tune" for selling MIDI sequencers and drum machines back in the day. Of course it took the whole keyboard department (under control of a Roland Micro Composer) to pull it off back then, lol. ... very nice job.
i used to play it live in a synth duo, around the same time era! great song to sequence and cover.
Superb job! Congrats! Please make some more 80's style on FA-06! You play so well!
+Filip Grüner you're too kind! i probably will, the 80's is where I'm at :)
Great sound... Thanks Woody
Haha I was contemplating covering this last weekend, but you did it so well!
go for it, in hindsight i wish that i had done my own interpretation. some other time perhaps.
Fantastic sound over headphones. :))
Great cover Woody. Nice slippers too :-)
thx, i love synthesis in my slippers :)
Great synth sounds
Hehehe. I was randomly listening to Axel F. synth covers on RUclips, leaving the browser window in the background while coding.
Then, your cover was the next one to play. I said to myself, "Haaa! On this one, at least, the bass notes are 100% accurate, without any fancy variations. And oooh, the second iteration of the main melody at the beginning is even played with effects, just like the original!"
So, I thought, "this guy sure knows how to cover songs with perfect accuracy..."
Then, I saw the channel name, and... "Oh, of course, it had to be from Woody!"
Your cover is one of the most accurate I found so far, along with this one by virtualoberheim (SonicProjects), played on their excellent OP-X PRO II VST (Oberheim OB-X emulation): ruclips.net/video/LJYX0eMJo0I/видео.html
so nice to hear that you rated my version, i would do it better today, I never did like the bass sound even if I got the notes right-ish, drums not fat enough. this was equally a FA08 demo as it was an accurate cover, all sounds and fx were played by the synth. I have heard the oberheim cover before, i love it!
I would love to have your studio set for this!
He's got's ear's , Big ones & thy werk very well too ! All thought a bit pointy at times
especially when he's been hanging out in those woods for extended periods utto ?
class! i heard that playing the base line and the lead is a little tricky to play at the same.
maybe you heard that from me as I have demonstrated this before, it's difficult but not impossible with practice...
Awesome jam man! Sounds to the T
Really nice job!
Great cover!
+Dominik Czajkowski thanks dominik, but i thought your cover was even better. :)
Woah..I didn't knew that Axel F was this old..Nive cover btw.. :)
yes what a good job .i like that more if you put the real trailer with :-)
You should have used the DX7 for the bridge part while you still had it!
I like it
O tira da pesada é fantástico a trilha sonora do filme,e muito bom portanto em termo de filme investigação é simplesmente a melhor.
This is great! I always enjoy playing this tune, but I don't know all the parts. Where did you get the music or did you learn it all by ear. Sounds great! Keep up the great work. Take care, Sam.
hi sam, in this case i just figured out the notes by ear and programmed into my sequencer. cheers.
Sweet!

You can also get quite a lot of other sheet music for other pieces of popular and classical music.
Thanks for the information. I found a book with the music. I learned a few of the parts. It sure is fun to play this song. Take care, Sam.
Does the Roland FA feature what Korg calls "velocity switching"? Bringing in different instruments the harder you play? See 18:30 of the below video.

Great cover, every bit sounds like the original.
nice shoes
I've got a challenge for you and the Rowland FA 08. I'd love to see you do the theme from the 1980s TV show, "The Equalizer"., written and performed by Stewart Copeland of the police. I bet you do an awesome job and it would come out pretty bad ass.ruclips.net/video/5iXvTzEsoiI/видео.html
Wonderful interpretation. It sounds very close to old synthesizers used back then. Can this Roland Fa-08's synthengine also reproduce current edm sounds ? Thank you !
yeah, sure, there are tons of those presets too, and very powerful synth engine
