- As an engineer in the Royal Navy you'll be called on to deploy your skills in some of the world's most high impact situations -- because technology is at the heart of everything we do. It means the variety of engineering roles available to you in the Royal Navy is unrivalled. And the technical knowledge you'll develop goes far beyond anything you would learn in a civilian apprenticeship.

As an engineer you only give the captain what he needs not what he wants- to preserve ones reputation as a miracle worker
Power and energy is life itself. Engineers and techs are life keepers.
Can't wait for this 👌
the novelty wears off
So make no mistake ..weapons engineers are put on the SCC and camp stations ..monitoring and helping to run the ship/sub.... On a sub at least .. everything that was said for the ME's cab be said for the WE's ..
I saw a recent video with the bridge of a warship everybody was there giving their views on a Russian warship. When I was in the navy the only people on the bridge were the captain and OOW. Nobody was interested in a ratings view.
But can you fix an amazon firestick???
At least the skills are readily transferable to the merchant service, if one so desires. There is a severe shortage world-wide of engineering, navigation and electro-technical officers in the merchant service. The monterary compensation is unbelievable and the (union) pension plans are fair to good. Time on/off is now generally 1:1, however, much dependant if working a union-contracted company or not.
Of course our US cousins are compensated the highest, however, being from Canada, even with the lower currency relative the US, the pay is still quite phenomenal. A 2nd Engineer or a 1st Mate can make upwards of £14500 (C$25000) per month (in a union-contracted company). Lots of opportunity, especially the engineering side...
Not a month surely
@@joemother4685 Yes, I repeat: per month.
Engineering weapons I will definitely choose that sound interesting.
I wanna do all this when I’m older but I have asthma so I’m unsure if I can do this but I hope I can do it.
You still can im sure
Ah don't worry mate you can still do this I'm sure even though you have asthma
Asthma can be combatted by cardio fittness I've done it myself
You could grow out of it , many people do like myself
Chief Engineers are Gods!
Seon Lewis nah they do paper work. its no.2 that u wanna be
The old saying was:
The Coxswain answers to the XO
The XO answers to the CO and the Chief Engineer answers only to God.
it pays well !
It's not that it pays. Am sure most of these sailors/officers joined because of their passion.
@@buster117 exactly!!
Bravo
Do you have any videos of a day in the life of a ME
Is it all engineering though or are there actually other roles in the Navy. Because it seems like all the Navy seems to advertise is just engineering roles as if there’s no other positions available! That is unless you’re going in to be an officer.
Daniel Whyatt google it! There are many other roles in the navy
There are so many roles.
Go on the website where you apply they have all the jobs there
They're advertising for roles that they're short of. Don't get sucked into a trade that you don't want to be in. There's loads of other trades.
Epic
fix a skateboard though??
I'm interested to join but I don't want to tell my family
you are not alone my friend im interested in doing military research
chris adams best thing to do is talk with your parents I was worried at first but they have given me the help and encouragement I have needed to get through
trust me my dad will brutally murder me
THESTRANGER ONTHETRAIN Tell him you can go in and do an apprenticeship through the navy and after a year or two in service, you can leave 1 years notice and work as a civilian engineer.
THESTRANGER ONTHETRAIN why though my dad would be proud I did wanna be a engineer but I also wanted to join the navy so navy+engineer=navy engineer
When I was in the RN you did long technical training to end up cleaning. Seemed the navy just needed a lot of cleaners. Nobody was interested in your views you just did as you were told to do backed up by vicious discipline. Until you were 30 you were treated as a child.
You're not a real Stoker until you're stony deaf.
"engineer"
More accurately, you'll be an apprentice mechanic, maybe you could call yourself an apprentice engineer after 5 years of experience minimum
