The key thing to note is that in order to secure a higher number of matches, comparison should be made with ancient Tamil words that are free from anglicisation, sanskritisation and modern day constructions. Also to bear in mind that many of these ancient Tamil words are no longer in everyday use among present day Tamil community. For e.g. the words kotumpai and thaal given above. The link between Tamils and Australia must have been in deep antiquity for the presence of these ancient Tamil words among Australian natives. We can look in a way at Australian aboriginal languages as a repository of fossilised Tamil.
I live in Australia since 7 years and have travelled all states, even Darwin, Northern Territory where many Indigenous people live. Just sometime back as I was walking along Brisbane river in city I saw history of the city and it said since 6000 years Indigenous Australians lived here and only in mid 1800s when Europeans surveyed, built houses. I saw cultural dances, story telling, artwork by Indigenous people and found resemblance to stories I heard as kid. Perhaps Indians traveled by sea to northern Australia and established contacts with locals . It is said in Australia that Indigenous people lived here since 50,000 years ago. There must be influx of another wave just before the land bridge of Asia and Australia broke after the last ice age around 10000 years ago

I read in research book that Telugu has close similarities to South Australian, western Australian aboriginal languages, and to some extent even Tamil language. People may have migrated from Africa to southern India to Australia many many 1000s of years ago.

I have heard that the Sangam Tamil map actually covered Madagascar and Australia with Sri Lanka. I don't know how far this is true. Not possible. I know you are talking about Kumari Kandam. A large continent about size of India stretching from India to Australia and to Madagascar. Agasthya talks about a land sinking gradually and people moving into today's southern India. But Kumari Kandam is impossible given the depths of oceans. One possibility is a landmass between India and SL, about size of Kerala because here the depth of ocean is about 100m +_30m. So it's possible 6000 BC or earlier when earth was cooler and had more ice and lower sea levels that part was part of India and SL amd India were one.

Sir - As far as my reading of mtDNA study goes, the first set of people from Africa moved along the coastline to reach Sindhu/Saraswati basin 70009 years ago and began evolving. Later they mutated into atleast 3 haplo groups of which one moved into northwest around 40-50 thousand years ago. So a little bit of similarity is confused as Aryan invasion. One haplo group moved east ward into China, Malaysia Indonesia and finally to Australia and even to New Zealand some 20000 years ago on boats. Because of the ice age, ocean levels were not as deep as they are now and even in some places, land was pretty much present. So their ancestors were Indians. Some of the primitive cultural forms resemble that of some Indian tribes.

Some great points Abhijit, except for one thing: Indigenous Australians do have the same rights as any other Australian. I know this since I live in Australia and have worked in the Justice system. All other points are spot on, btw. They are marginalized due to the baggage of a couple of hundred years of injustices. You've listed them out very well. With that out of the way, the first thing that struck me was how very Indian-sounding the names of places were. Some examples; Turramarra, Parramatta, Cootamundra, Narrandera, Narrabri, Ulla Dulla, etc. The way these names are uttered by the Aboriginal people sounds very much like some South Indian languages. Also, if u listen to them speaking in their native language, the cadence is very similar to Tamil. Also, the indigenous people look very similar to Tamil people. Similar features and complexion. Aboriginal art: Quite a of them use geometric patterns and are very similar to Indian Yantra patterns. Dreamtime: Aboriginal people have a spiritual concept called Dreamtime. Some spiritual concepts may have similarities to ancient Indian concept of devatas. They are very much attuned to nature and the land they live on. @Peter Mercado You can straightaway search for the 2 books named _Indika_ (one by Arrian, another mostly lost one by Megasthenes) or any other written records of India by the Ancient Greeks, literally each single one of them I have found never fails to compare Indians to Ethiopians (and most of the times, Egyptians too). Whatever I said was mostly based on the Indika (alternate spelling - Indica) of Arrian of Ancient Greece. It's available online in PDF format on archive.org and other websites. [More specifically, Arrian writes that the North Indians looked like Egyptians, while South Indians like Ethiopians, and that it should be no surprise to the readers as it is 'widely known' that the Indians and Egyptians are related.]

He is missing the point totally. The migration did not happen 5000 years ago. There was no migration. If you pick up the whole of the Australian continent as a jigsaw piece it fits in neatly in the gap between the tip of India, Kanyakumari. The Northern Territory fits under Bangladesh and Eastern India. Western Australia fits with Tamilnadu, Vishakapatnam, Orrisa. The Gondwana movement split the continents and those people stayed back. The link between Tamils and Australia must have been in deep antiquity for the presence of these ancient Tamil words among Australian natives. I live in Australia since 7 years and have travelled all states, even Darwin, Northern Territory where many Indigenous people live. Just sometime back as I was walking along Brisbane river in city I saw history of the city and it said since 6000 years Indigenous Australians lived here and only in mid 1800s when Europeans surveyed, built houses.
I saw cultural dances, story telling, artwork by Indigenous people and found resemblance to stories I heard as kid. Perhaps Indians traveled by sea to northern Australia and established contacts with locals .
It is said in Australia that Indigenous people lived here since 50,000 years ago. There must be influx of another wave just before the land bridge of Asia and Australia broke after the last ice age around 10000 years ago

Not possible. I know you are talking about Kumari Kandam. A large continent about size of India stretching from India to Australia and to Madagascar. Agasthya talks about a land sinking gradually and people moving into today's southern India. But Kumari Kandam is impossible given the depths of oceans. One possibility is a landmass between India and SL, about size of Kerala because here the depth of ocean is about 100m +_30m. So it's possible 6000 BC or earlier when earth was cooler and had more ice and lower sea levels that part was part of India and SL amd India were one.

Sir - As far as my reading of mtDNA study goes, the first set of people from Africa moved along the coastline to reach Sindhu/Saraswati basin 70009 years ago and began evolving. Later they mutated into atleast 3 haplo groups of which one moved into northwest around 40-50 thousand years ago. So a little bit of similarity is confused as Aryan invasion. One haplo group moved east ward into China, Malaysia Indonesia and finally to Australia and even to New Zealand some 20000 years ago on boats. Because of the ice age, ocean levels were not as deep as they are now and even in some places, land was pretty much present. So their ancestors were Indians. Some of the primitive cultural forms resemble that of some Indian tribes.

@Peter Mercado You can straightaway search for the 2 books named _Indika_ (one by Arrian, another mostly lost one by Megasthenes) or any other written records of India by the Ancient Greeks, literally each single one of them I have found never fails to compare Indians to Ethiopians (and most of the times, Egyptians too).
Whatever I said was mostly based on the Indika (alternate spelling - Indica) of Arrian of Ancient Greece. It's available online in PDF format on archive.org and other websites.
[More specifically, Arrian writes that the North Indians looked like Egyptians, while South Indians like Ethiopians, and that it should be no surprise to the readers as it is 'widely known' that the Indians and Egyptians are related.]
