We Finns have had a particularly close relationship with Italian music for decades. So many Italian songs have been made into a Finnish version, including this one.
My grandmother (rest in peace) was such a big Olavi Virta -fan!! This is the music of my childhood, taking me back to the summers at my grandparents' cottage. Love love love this!!!
This reminds me also the old finnish movies, they are so... they bring back memories to my childhood since my mom watch them so much, I think Olavi Virta was also an actor.❤️
Virta was granted a Finnish state artist's pension in June 1972. He was the first entertainment artist in Finland to be granted it. He had time to enjoy it for one month. Olavi Virta died after a long illness of diabetes and liver cirrhosis on the 14th of July 1972. He was 57 years old.
Finnish artists have been covering Italian songs in bulk since the 50s, so probably all the greatest Finnish artists have covered them, and quite a few of those songs have become an essential part of Finnish music history. People don't often even know they are originally Italian songs or consider them as such-they are simply Finnish songs. Here are some of those songs: "Annikki Tähti - Laulu kahdesta pennistä - Canzone da due soldi", "Olavi Virta - Laulu Kahdesta Pennistä (Canzone da due soldi)", "Laila Kinnunen - Guaglione", "Olavi Virta - Poika Varjoiselta Kujalta (1957)", "Laila Kinnunen - Romantica", "Olavi Virta - Al di la", "Laila Kinnunen - Lazzarella", "Laila Kinnunen - Jos itken, jos nauran", "Laila Kinnunen - Illalla, illalla", "Eino Grön - Liian paljon rahaa", "Eino Grön - Tango D'Amore", "Eino Grön - Kertokaa se hänelle", "Seija Karpiomaa - Maruzzella", "Brita Koivunen: Kuinka paljon rakkautta", "Reijo Taipale - Hopeinen kuu", "Carola - Kuinkas käy nyt", "Seija Simola - Sulle silmäni annan", "Paula Koivuniemi - Aikuinen Nainen", "Lea Laven - Niin", "Tapani Kansa - Päättyneet on päivät", "Katri Helena - Vasten auringon siltaa", "Fredi - Puhu hiljaa rakkaudesta", "Ann Christine - Odota en", "Emilia - Satan In Love", "Sleepy Sleepers - Sulle silmäni annan ", and "Kari Tapio - Juna Kulkee". Umberto Marcato wasn't well-known in Italy, but as an Italian artist he became popular in Finland. Here he sings a Finnish tango: "Umberto Marcato - Restera (Liljankukka)". Here he sings in Finnish: "Umberto Marcato - Miksi puhelin ei soi". This here might make you laugh: "The story of Karhu : The most forgotten sneakers brand".
Thank you for this great information, kiitos🌹..know all these songs in finnish as I am a finn and my parents played these songs also 🇫🇮❤ , but didn't know all the Italian versions of them as mentioned by you ..very good information thanks 👍😊
Finnish people love this song in finnish. Words in finnish are full of intensive poetry, love and scenes of late night. We have even translate the vocabulary in latin, which tells about our respect.
My parents wedding waltz " Metsäkukkia " Olavi Virta recorded... levytti ..all his songs are beautiful.."Kultainen nuoruus" ..another singer "Kauko Käyhkö" "Kaksi vanhaa tukkijätkää" ..many old songs are great and nice to listen..Also Tapio Rautavaara was singer and actor.. his songs I mention "Isoisän olkihattu" "Yölinjalla" "Päivänsäde ja menninkäinen " ect more 🇫🇮❤
As a Finn in Italy, I early learned to avoid admiring views by exlaiming "Look and listen to the sea!" (= "Katso kuule merta !") The love of music we share, we stole your "Sono Italiano" - "Olen Suomalainen". "Maledetta Primavera" is "Aikuinen Nainen". The most beloved songs in karaoke througout decades! ❤
In the 50's, 60's and 70's the Finnish Schlager Music (iskelmä, from German word Schlager) was mainly covers translated to Finnish (either quite literally or completely different meaning) of Italian, German and Russian originals.
My mother, now 87 years, has been to his concerts in Finnish "lavatanssit", and he (Virta) was performing few times drunk as fuck 😅 and was singing his back towards the crowd 😂. He was alcoholic.
Still want to mention one old singer Reijo Taipale and song "Satumaa " there are many old singers/songs but not remember many now....my self love most this Hopeinen kuu..so romantic ❤
@@suomenpresidentti"Aavan meren tuolla puolen jossakin on maa Missä onnen kaukorantaan laine liplattaa Missä kukat kauneimmat luo aina loistettaan Siellä huolet huomisen voi jäädä unholaan...."..yes very beautiful song, actually agree with you that it's better..👍😊
Petrus Schroderus has recorded many Italian songs, some also in Italian. Here are a few... The first one is one of my favourites. Puhu hiljaa rakkaudesta - Love theme from "The Godfather" ruclips.net/video/qgQ8E8c8OCI/видео.html O Sole Mio ruclips.net/video/DdobwT6AdwA/видео.html Caruso (Te voglio bene assaje) ruclips.net/video/Jk3HDvdslvw/видео.html

Greetings from Finland man!!! I'm glad that you did my recommendation surujen kitara all tho you should listen to studio version of that.. There's much more to check out from Topi Sorsakoski and Agents!!! When the world had Elvis we had Olavi Virta!!! "i'll be back" 😎
Romani-s (Gypsies) like Olavi Virta (originally: Ilmén), Taisto Tammi (real family name: Lundberg), Markus Allan (Allan Isberg), Amadeus Lundberg are by far the best interpreters of especially Finnish tango. As "y'all" can see, their real family names are Swedish, perhaps reflecting the fact that the Gypsy languages are related to e.g. Sanskrit and, by the same token, Indo-European like Swedish and almost all European languages, except Finnish, Estonian, Hungarian (Uralic ones) and Basque (language isolate).
I totally agree that you should react to old and legendary Finnish music rather than new music :) The real soul of Finnish music is made by Olavi Virta, Tapio Rautavaara, Juice Leskinen, Laila Kinnunen, Irwin Goodman, Leevi and the Leavings, Kari Tapio etc.
Hi doing well, hope you too Mauro, it's a very beautiful song Hopeinen Kuu..I will listen to italian version for sure ❤glad to know you like old music are the best❤thanks , hope I find this Italian version, ..mille grazie kiitos..😃🇫🇮❤🇮🇹
I would recommend reacting to Yö - Joutsenlaulu. It is one of my favorite Finnish songs and it was made 1984. There is a version in RUclips that has translated lyrics on the video also.
Please, please react to two songs: Tyttö metsässä by Topi Sorsakoski, and the same song by Olavi Virta a few decades earlier. I will say no more, to not spoil anything.
Virta is a Finnish legend forever.
@mythbusters866 jos se laittaa forever loppuun nii ei:D nice try
We Finns have had a particularly close relationship with Italian music for decades. So many Italian songs have been made into a Finnish version, including this one.
He was a golden voice. At the end of his days.. He actually died alone. Even after decades, everyone knows Olavi Virta and his voice ❤
My grandmother (rest in peace) was such a big Olavi Virta -fan!! This is the music of my childhood, taking me back to the summers at my grandparents' cottage. Love love love this!!!
Remember, that these recordings were made with one shot only. The technique did not allow anything else.
Olavi Virta has the most beautiful voice ❤ still....thanks Mauro 😄
This reminds me also the old finnish movies, they are so... they bring back memories to my childhood since my mom watch them so much, I think Olavi Virta was also an actor.❤️
He has also sang some songs in the original language as well, absolutely one of the most talented Finnish singers of all time

When i was in.army in 2016, meanwile other rooms had playing heavymetal or rap, our room and guys played this song!
Olavi Virta was the best!
Olavi Virta was most likely the best Finnish tango singer of all time. As you can guess, this song is also very popular in Finnish karaoke bars :D

You should listen basicly any song from Katri Helena. But I recommend "Vanha nainen hunningolla", it's a great cover from another Finnish singer.
