With the Zwift ride, you seem stuck with proprietary cranks and 165s aren’t an option. The rivet, with its standard component setup, you can cheaply put on whatever cranks and chainring you want
I bought my new leftover 2023 Trek Domane AL2 for $1000, bikes are cheap, dedicated bare bones trainer frame are getting $$$$$. There also looks like alot of flex on that handle bar mount, being a sprinter I would tear that off, and probably many others as well
I like the frame. I like the design. I like you can go geared and use it with the CLIMB. I hate to winge but it seems pricey for what you get. I may be off there. One can pick up a very good frame on eBay for less than half the price. I think these bikes are not aimed at the users who wants the cheapest option. You will be very challenged to out compete a used bike frame and a KICKR core. A bike like this should be aiming at the user who wants something better than that. Better looking, more reliable, lower maintenance, more convenient etc. Not having a front derailleur option is a bit of a miss too. If you are going to give a geared option, brazing on a front derailleur mount seems to be a small expense. Since this is not a road bike, not including the option for other accessories that are indoor specific is a bit of a miss also. No tablet mount, no table, no place for phone, head units, multiple bottles for long rides, place to mount a large monitor, towel holder, headphones etc. All these things would create value above and beyond a regular bike frame. You would not want to mount all this right off the bat, most users would not want it. But providing mounting points where these things could bolt on would separate this functionally from a standard bike frame and would drive people to purchase this over a standard frame.. The pre order discount is very small. You are going to hold my money for 4+ months for s discount of 5%. Not much of an incentive for me to order now. Since it is the first product from this company, one does not know how definite the October ship date is. If it was a steeper discount, I would consider buying now. I am not saying no to this but I will wait until they ship before I decide. Never know, there may be more options on the market by then.
people are greedy these days. a bike like that doesn't require fancy tubing. Probably the cheapest tubing with some rust treatment. Maybe even cheap aluminum! that shouldn't cost more than some double digit number. I mean, literally the quality of walmart bike would do it, which sell at a couple hundred.
Seems like a good 1.0-product for my two kids that grow 3-4cm per year and my wife who spends €500+/year on spinning classes but would like to do it at home. We don't have the space for 4 setups during snow season but also don't want 4 Zwift accounts ticking, some of the free alternatives can be tested and everyone can choose their preference. But, like others have noted, quite a long list of missed opportunities for making it way more indoor convenient compared to regular and much cheaper frame.
I think that a nice feature in a future version would be the ability to pivot side to side and steer, to better simulate real bike banking and steering (which would interface with the app as the Sterzo Elite does) and save wear and tear on the rear dropouts, and perhaps even some fore-aft movement to better simulate real world ring. This could be built into the rear axle, steerer tube and front mount, and be independent of and work with a riser attachment. I'd still go with a cheap used bike though if I was looking to set up a permanent trainer.
brilliant review, really well thought out. As for Rivet, I love my wahoo, and enjoy both zwift and rouvy, might just stick with my current setup bike and avoid sweating all over play controller buttons :o
I ended buying a full indoor smartbike from a brand named BH fitness for less then €800. You don't need that extra smart trainer, it is just built in and has road bike geometry as well. Next to that it has a belt drive. Which is way more solid and will wear out way slower then a chain
@@carlovannucci4810 There can be some confusion about the type online, I have the one with the large digital display, if you Google : "Smart Bike LYON H9115 " you will find it. I also noticed that BH just resells it with their brand on it and that you can also find the same smart bike from other brands who whitelabel this model as well... Yes, it does automatically change the resistance, altough this sometimes happens with a slight delay, meaning that if you go uphill, your avatar will already have slowed down... Is used to ride on a spinbike with powermeter pedals, so I turned off ERG mode for structured training (which is 90% of my Zwift riding) and I change the resistance myself using the gear shifters, which work very smooth bu the way. It works the same as a SRAM eTap dropbar groupset, which I have on my road bike so I feel right at home clicking the paddles on the spin bike. The downside of the hoods on the smartbike is that they are made from hard plastic, so they do get slippery if you train without gloves on because of the sweat on your hands and it tends to then run down the bars... which is not an issue for me as I clean the hoods and the bars with disinfectant after every ride just like I would do at the gym. However sweat does enter the hoods via the plastic seam, so i'm curios to see how long the shifting elektronics in the hoods will hold up... Good engineers will have sealed the area underneath. But I did not take my chances on dismanteling the hoods and see if it is actually sealed underneath the plastic. I'm thinking about posting a mid-term and long term review up on youtube, as there arent that many vids available about this model.
I think all these smart frame manufacturers are missing a big trick, for those of us that do not have a dedicated garage / room for training a smart frame that folded up into the footprint of the trainer and easily opened up into it's training format without having to pull the whole setup apart, think of a kids fold up stroller and apply that to the smart frame. Just think of the ease of storage for apartment livers or people with limited storage space!! Combine that with a belt drive and you've perfection. Now a smart frame like this would convince me to buy it over the bulky dedicated bike frame I currently use. just replacing that bike with a similarly bulky (non-smart in my opinion) frame has no attraction whatsoever.
It looks quite well thought out. The 'stem' seems to have a fair amount of flex in it. Is that going to carry forward into final design? I do like that you can also play with geometry, etc. before transferring it to your bike/s. Also, that tan is just.... bleh!
I spent some time designing a dedicated frame like this, gave up based on price, you cant compete with a aliexpress carbon frame. Not having a belt drive capability is a showstopper too. Too bad, this looks good overall
Interesting. I also use my first road bike as my indoor trainer, so that bike has not been outside since 2020. I think if you have spare bike, I don't really see the need for this...but if you only have one bike and you want to get into indoor training, I think this is the way to go. I do have concerns with the Wahoo full time bike, because I would be concern if it breaks and going through the hassle of shipping the bike back to the company. It the trainer breaks, shipping a bike training is too bad. I like this setup better than the Zwift bike that came out since this allow the rider to us a Climb.
I have just one bike and don't find it to be too big of a pain to remove the rear wheel and install it on my Core, the remove it and reinstall the wheel for outdoor riding. I'm usually either riding exclusively or almost entirely indoors or outdoors, depending on the season, so I can usually avoid the wheel removal and reinstallation step. It's actually more of a pain to do all the other things I have to do to ride indoors, since I don't have a permanent location for it, like lay out a pad, place the Core on it, plug the adapter into the outlet and then into the Core, and so on, then undo it all when I'm done. Having said that, if I did have room for a permanent setup, I'd probably still use my road bike on it as it really isn't that much of a hassle and like I said I'm usually either entirely or mostly riding indoors or outdoors, so the bike would probably be installed on it full time in the off season and barely on it during warmer months, when the Core would be stored someplace out of the way. Everyone has their own preferences and situation though, of course.
With the Zwift Ride you are not forced to use Zwift, you can go with any software you want, just connect your garmin, send your trainer day or trainer workout to your kicker. edit: only in ERG mode not in simulation
You need that full-length rocker plate! 😆 Kidding. Yes, the dual leg design, while allowing for CLIMB compatibility has some limitations with rocker plates and side to side movement.
Is it my imagination, or did the handlebar mounting plate ("neck") flex a fair amount under load? Is there a weight limit for the Rivet? I like the Mixte step through concept for convenience of accommodating various riders, but overall the unit is just not very attractive. The Zwift Ride by comparison looks exactly like what it is; a durable, dependable, simple to use indoor training bike frame.
Back again... thankfully, the production models are black. Sadly, as someone that lives in Europe, the cost of shipping is shockingly high. Sending it to Germany nets me two options... one at 335 Euros and the USPS option which is over 400 Euros. If they're going gain a Euro market, they need to figure something out.... quickly. I was ready to buy one but won't go over 150 for Shipping.
Features are a good thing, but overlooking looks and overall aesthetic appearance fends prospects off. On paper, this ticks all the boxes. But then I look at it, and I see myself wishing I liked it.
Way too pricey for what you get….you can a real alloy bike for a little more, used for less…also, people like me who dumped Zwift after 3 years this month due to their massive price hike…and most of us dont want to be locked into the Zwift ecosystem…especially since virtual shifting for kickr V5 still isn’t avail, cheating is still rampant, and excellent alternatives such as Mywhoosh is out there.
price is a joke, considering all the safety and ride testing they could forgo along with not needing to optimize material for weight savings /safety the price is a joke. Should cost $200.
Did you not happen to hear the feedback that I provided such as the price of the geared setup which I don’t think makes sense or the chainring size that isn’t ideal?
Ahhhhh at that price you are better off buying a bike with wheels, totally unrealistic pricing
Stopped watching the second he said the price. That price is *absurd* lol
At $1000 it's not even competitive with the Zwift offering, let alone buying a $300 single speed to dedicate to a trainer. DOA.
100%, this thing costs as much as the Zwift Ride and doesn't include the trainer
Multiple users plus a double fork/rise idea. A bargain compared to 2 or 3 different bikes
This makes sense for people who: already have a trainer and want an easily adjustable bike for multiple riders
With the Zwift ride, you seem stuck with proprietary cranks and 165s aren’t an option. The rivet, with its standard component setup, you can cheaply put on whatever cranks and chainring you want

The bars flexing was the first thing I noticed. Didn't look like an all out effort either.

I agree. I thought it's a brilliant idea, but just an adjustable frameset and single gear cost 1k?.. I'm off.
Also, the price sucks (For what they do include). I’m going outside for a ride now.

A waxes chain can last 20,000 kms. Why tf you care so much about a 18$ chain?

Agree. my first road bike has been a dedicated trainer bike for 20 years.

The mark 2 version of zwift cog is going to have inbuilt indexing adjustment so maybe that'll improve noise
With my time with the V2 cog, I'm not sure if it will have enough adjustment to create an ideal chainline but it's certainly a possibility!
Anything that stops me continually fiddling with the rear barrel adjuster is a win !
I prefer this to the Zwift bike for sure, any idea when they plan to ship internationally
Their website should have that info but I'll also ask them to reply to this comment.

Yes, in ERG mode but not simulation

What about GATE-option? Should they "cut" rear triangle to adjust the RIVET for gate drivetrain?
No mention of the the tacx neo or other trainer compatibility?
The duel feet in front wont work for me since my v6 is mounted on a rocker plate.

$700 is too much for something so basic.
Handle bars look really sketchy. Wouldn't feel comfortable long term with my weight on those.
So many options!!!!!
Make this compatible with motion, like with the Tacx Neo line, and I am in.

Lots of companies burying themselves in wine and weed tonight after Elite released there trainer today 😂
What makes the new Elite trainer so compelling? I am trying to figure out my first indoor training setup, and this could help. Thanks!
I would prefer an old bike. the frame looks off to me.
Where is this frame made? 🇺🇸?

Doubt it. US made will double the price.
Nice. Wish it was a little cheaper
should have made one with belt drive
Hard to justify the price tag. It looks like a walmart bike for 119.99. The zwift is overpriced but pretty to look at.
Cant see space for bottle cages??
On the front legs above the axle, sorry, forgot to mention
This thing is already obsolete before it even came to market after today’s elite bike release
