Also oil wasn't as important at that time so even if they knew, they likely wouldn't have cared or probably just would have asked for a little more.... wasn't until cars were invented that oil became as valuable as we know it
We in the U.S. are blessed that we can go visit different states - each with different cultures, cuisine, climate and accents - any time we want. It's similar in some ways to living in Europe, but without the language barrier. I hope you are able to visit the U.S. many times and that you visit different parts of it each time. It will seem like a different country to you each time!
My friend in Germany is obsessed with our politics and thinks he can get a grasp without living here. I try to explain to him Germany is #1 in Europe and is the size of like two sizable states here. I can't articulate the behemoth of cultures, areas, views, and that the people are all similar yet very different.
@The Loud Guys Heyo! So there's a couple reasons 'why' Russia sold Alaska. The main reason was Russia was broke from all the Wars of the late 1700's and early 1800's - Mainly the Napoleonic Wars. They needed money bad. Second, Russia was afraid that England, who controlled all of Canada, would simply take it. The Russian's at the time saw American ownership of Alaska to be more favorable than an English one. Fun fact! Russia contacted the US about selling Alaska 10 years earlier, but we declined and postponed because we were a little busy with the Civil War. *EDIT = Just wanted to add. At the time of the sale, there not a lot of Russian's in Alaska. There were some, but they were there in trapping / gold excursions or they were harvesting lumber/fish/etc close to the shores. There were no sizeable settlements in Alaska at the time. Alaska's modern cities were, more or less, a direct product of the Alaskan Gold Rush of 1896. This is why there aren't very many Russian Names in the cities & towns. Alaska has been inhabited throughout time by the Native Americans towards the East and South and the Native Inuits towards the North and West + Aleutian Islands.
Wait until we annex Canada and Greenland. Possibly/hopefully Siberia also. The northern passage will become VERY important even if global warming does not warm it enough for increased trade routes, people are working on melting the passage themselves for the profits of only having to sail instead of flying all the goods from East Asia to The States and Europe.
The US is basically half a continent, with each part having been settled by a different group of people which leave them with distinct regional state cultures.
@ I wish we would buy Greenland. As far as Alaska. Secretary of State Seward who bought it for the U.S. was chastised to know end. Alaska was called “Seward’s Folly” or Seward’s Ice Box.” How little did they know. Seward’s Granddaughter worked for my family when I was a child. She was wonderful.
The surface area of the 5 great lakes is about the same as the UK , now you know why we don't need to travel outside our own country as much as everyone else !
“Russia is st ew p I’d for selling Alaska” French were the same way with the Louisiana purchase that more than doubled the size of the USA. Spain giving us Florida was nice also. I would love for the U.S. to buy Greenland. Not much going on there anyways.
Now you understand why the land majority of Americans don't have a passport and never have had one. There's so many places to go here. We've got every culture in the world too. Every food and entertainment. We travel the world, in a sense, when we travel throughout America, no passport required. We have family spread throughout America too, so we travel to see them. It takes me 16 hours of driving to go visit my son. Only stopping for gas.
Keep in mind that the United States, meaning the 50 states, is the 3rd largest county by area following Russia (1st) and Canada (2nd). I was born, raised, and live in the State of Illinois. I'm 65 years old, and have yet to visit all parts of Illinois, let alone most of the 50 States. I've been to the States of Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Indiana, and New York, as well as Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. I have never laid eyes on the Atlantic, Pacific or Gulf (of Mexico) coasts of the United States.
More people need to watch this video and realize who they are messing with. The U.S. is bigger in land mass, economy, military and we are growing tired of tiny country's smaller than our states thinking they are all that and bag of chips. We could crush them easily in economics, and especially militarily. Keep poking the bear and see what happens.
Correction: Europe is slightly larger than the US by land area, with a mere 120,000 square mile difference. It's not my mother tongue, but the plural of country would be countries I'd say... And no small country (or big other than maybe Russia and China) is poking the US. Certainly not now best POTUS in history is back in office. And keep in mind some of the countries you're probaly refering to are (among) your oldest allies that stood by the US in many, if not all, of your wars and as for France and the Netherlands even during your struggles for independence.
Russia sold Alaska for 7 million dallors in 1867 because it was to faraway to maintain but they didn't know it was full of billions in oil😮😅
And a sh!t load of rare earth minerals 😂
Also oil wasn't as important at that time so even if they knew, they likely wouldn't have cared or probably just would have asked for a little more.... wasn't until cars were invented that oil became as valuable as we know it

He needs to come visit and expand his mind.
I always told my children that Oklahoma is to Texas as Austria is to Germany. My father referred to Oklahoma as the front porch full of cousins.😊
Germans think they know everything lol. I have a few German friends too!

India is pretty damn big too.
India is exactly twice the area of Iran, and Brazil is 2.5 times the area of India. Land is very unevenly distributed people throughout the world.
Proud American from Alaska here! I enjoy your vids👍👍
The US is basically half a continent, with each part having been settled by a different group of people which leave them with distinct regional state cultures.
No, the U.S. including Alaska is 125% the size of all of Europe.
@@solvingpolitics3172 Exactly my point, "the US" is like the entire EU and then some.

There is another video you should watch that shows you how many countries can fit in the United States and it shows India two fit in the United States

Need to no, neither do Russians or Chinese people seeing their country's landsize, yet they and Americans do travel a lot.
Summary. Europe is slightly larger than the US by land area, with a mere 120,000 square mile difference.
New York State (54,556 square miles (141,299 km2) is larger than Ireland (32,500 Square miles (84,500 km2).

And we peacfully bought much of it.
I looked up India:
3.3 million square km
1.3 million square mi
Damn is Alaska really half as big as India?
It is also other countries Alaska is also bigger than France. Also Texas is too.
This is why most Americans dont have passports...we can travel to different places, see different things/cultures and never leave the Continental U.S.
These technology savvy persons don't own a globe or a computer? This isn't NEW News
Rhode Island isn't as big as the county I live in in Texas....
For real, you are Population, we are size of Russia, our smallest states are bigger then most counties in Europe. We are a BREAST!!!!

As a fellow American, stop being a posturing keyboard warrior. Peace should be the goal anyway
