    What about Linux support?

  • @Vim_Tim
    @Vim_Tim 4 года назад +6

    Does this technology have any implications for the future of the Microsoft-owned Electron framework? Assuming that support for Linux desktop is a possibility, will there be any advantage of Electron over React Native desktop?

    Hi, I like the video. I have a doubt before starting with this, shall we use all the popular react native libraries for macOS development also?

    Sometimes the Mac app launches, and sometimes a "No URL present" error occurs. It's kind of unpredictable, but hey it was only planted recently

    Looks awesome! but I cant get it to work after installing react-native-webview and executing pod install...project keeps throwing build failed..

    Great, but there are components that exists in WinForms and WPF such as DataGridView, DataGrid, ToolStripMenus, GroupBox but are not available in React Native for Windows, It would be amazing if microsoft includes these components to React Native Windows API.

    I really wish they would just develop native desktop apps for Mac and Windows. I don’t think fluent is great, but it’s certainly a Windows experience, not MacOS. But RN apps don’t work as well as native apps. It’s slower, more resource intensive, less feature rich, and doesn’t support all native APIs.

    Getting nothing but issues trying to do the initial build, "BuildTools not found", looking online it seems I need to install VS (Not code) and install Windows Platform Development? Strange nothing is mentioned here about VS. Guess will wait for this to mature. github.com/microsoft/react-native-windows/issues/3263

      Folowed the instructions on the official website and got things working without much issue, mostly need to install VS and the npx commands have changed slightly.

    Impressive. I see there is still a bit of teething issues but i'm gonna try it out on a couple of my existing apps. Third party libraries like React Native Navigation might be an issue though. Hopefully you will maintain this long enough for them to support too. Kudos

      Hello, why react native navigation might be an issue?

    • @sf8262
      @sf8262 3 года назад

      @@passivecryptoearnings3605 react native navigation is officially supported now, but unless otherwise noted on the website, 3rd party react native modules arent supported and might not work

    Tried react native windows this week and can figure how it works with certain packages with native bits, eg. Can't get Sqlite npm package to work and I get no debug info. Any ideas? Also how do I package my app and db? The publishing section of the docs doesn't say much.

    • @passivecryptoearnings3605

      you can use async-storage, it will automatically pick whatever that is available to store your app's data.

    I know switching from electron to react native uwp supposed to be a boost. I'm still baffled by the 1.2GB consumption of electron and still not very impressed with 300MB, apps nowadays use a lot of resources for sure.

    Can you redesign Windows Explorer with react native? That brought me here. I'm annoyed by how the 'back' button works when going back to a 'find file results' (super annoying). Don't make me wait for a search you just did!!! Cache the search results and display that after clicking back, then update that list in the background! :)
