  • Hello friends and fellow working mom warriors! Today I have a different video! I've been drinking alcohol for about 20 years and I have contemplated quitting for a while because I've consistently been feeling anxious an depressed every time I drive. Finally an event happened in my life that served as a wake-up call and I've decided to quit drinking alcohol completely.

Thank you for being so open! I have slowed way down on drinking. I realize it's just not as much fun as it used to be and it's not worth feeling miserable the next day. I don't think giving it up completely is in the cards for me (yet) but I will sit and sip on the same drink or 2 all evening instead of having 5 or 6!

Hello from a 38-year old teetotaler 👋 I haven't drank much since my early 20s - I just love the clarity I feel without it and the depth it brings to connection with others. Amanda, I love this so much. Thank you for sharing and BLESSING me with this video. I have a similar story. I am a 36 year old WFH mom and I didn't start drinking until I was in my early-mid twenties. I drank to get drunk. I LOVED how it made me feel in the moment. I did this (with my husband) for a bout 3 years. It was us going to bars mostly and getting so drunk I could hardly walk straight and then the next morning I would feel horrible. One night in particular, I drank so much that the next morning I was throwing up all over the house and had to go to work the next day. I couldn't even drive to work because I was shaking so much. I just could not stop shaking. It scared me so bad that THAT day I decided NO MORE EVER. This was my resolution in 2016 and I have stuck to it. Although it was the very best decision for me, my husband has not stopped and we continue to get into arguments about his drinking. (I hope Pete is supportive of you not drinking anymore) My husband lost his drinking buddy, but I have to do what is best for myself and my daughter and it's been something I have never regretted. I don't even get the urge to have a drink out at a restaurant. No desire. I am so happy you posted this video and thank you for recommending Andrew Huberman. I will listen to his video and send it to my husband. You are my absolute favorite youtuber to watch and it's so nice to be able to relate to you so much and know I am not alone!

Thank you so much for sharing! It’s so comforting and inspirational to hear other women my age choosing not to drink for similar reasons 🩷 I’m sorry to hear that you and your husband sometimes aren’t aligned but hopefully you can respect each other’s stance on drinking. Pete’s super supportive and has actually been urging me to completely stop for a while since I’m miserable and a different person after drinking. I really admire that you have no desire anymore and I’m hoping to gain that complete confidence as a move forward on this journey! Thank you so much for the support 🩷🩷🩷

I just want to say I appreciate this video; especially as a mom. I was not a college drinker BUT became depressed in my mid 30s (fyi I stopped to this at 5:28 minutes in this video) BECAUSE in my case after my mid 30s alcohol has been my addiction……. At the moment as I write, my sides hurt 😞 but i do want sobriety.
In my case, alcohol cant be in my life anymore..i have 2 beautiful kids that are way older than yours but are still young. They are suffering because of my addiction….and my health is not that great. Amanda, your videos have been God sent because i changed jobs and i researched your info because i needed some positive guidance to the point I am trying to mimic your routine…THANK YOU….. and especially thank you for this video…i will finish it now but i just feel heard as a mom because of this video….i wish i could say i used alcohol socially but for me it became to numb my pain. There are a lot of mom’s hiding their alcohol drinks and I hope to grab a positive twist on your reason and also make it a goal of being free 1st one month, the , 60 then 90 days, then one year and lastly until forever for me. I ask for PRAYERS while i fight this battle, i have gone to trauma and rehabs and now I am trying on my own and those prayers are going to help me so much. Thank you and never stop sharing your content. ❤️🙏

I know this video has been up awhile but I’m just now coming across it. I subbed to you awhile back but then unsubscribed when I decided to cut out a lot of the current content I was taking in. It wasn’t because of you that I unsubscribed. I did that with just about all of the channels I was subbed to and purely for the purpose of controlling what I was watching (I was focusing on God at the time and trying to do a “fast” from most of the content I was used to). But I am subbed again now because I just came across this video, miss your channel, and empathize with this topic. Thank you for being so raw and real to share your journey. Thanks for sharing your journey, Amanda ♥️ It takes a lot of vulnerability and discipline to acknowledge behaviors that are no longer serving us and make a change, good for you!! I have never been a big drinker and always had a personal limit of 2 drinks when I did partake. But I can relate that, at 35 now, I just feel differently even after a few drinks and I’ve realized the pleasure of the drink is not always worth how I may feel later. One friendly thought/suggestion-I’ve learned from my naturopath how much of a hit our livers can take from alcohol, medications, or seed oils. It can be good to occasionally take some supplemental support to help heal the liver. (Note: I’m not a medical professional, just sharing my personal experience.) Abstaining from alcohol for a time will probably help your liver a lot anyway, but just a friendly suggestion you may be interested in exploring. I am a wellness junkie and love the Huberman lab podcast as well, or anything else I can get my hands on about wellness 😋 you may like Dr. Eric Berg’s RUclips channel as well, if you haven’t found it yet. Best wishes to you ♥️

Same! I have a 4 year old and a 2 year old. And the hangovers are just getting ridiculous! In bed the next morning after just having a few drinks. I can only contribute this to my metabolism changing after having kids. And I workout, I eat healthy ish. I intermittent fasting. It's the same though. I feel socially like I need to. But I also feel like my body just cannot handle it anymore. I'm 35 & I think it's just something that's internally changed. Power to you for realizing this is best for your body! 👏

I just became a working Mom of a toddler (was a SAHM for two years) and I also started a side business AND I'm studying for certifications. I quickly realized even just one glass of wine or one weekend beer just did not fit into my life anymore. Dr. John Delony here on RUclips had a discussion about teen/young adult (like college age) drinking and how young girls are literally drinking to "have fun" and lose their inhibitions basically to lower their guards/morals/boundaries, whatever you want to call them. Which are there to protect you. It was eye-opening, and yes I've heard so many people say they drink to have fun or do things/act in ways they normally wouldn't do.

It takes a lot of strength to quit anything that was a part of your life for 20 years, nevermind such a socially accepted habit as having a drink! Excited for you - good luck on your journey and keep up the daily walks 🌳

Love that I came across your page recently. Very similar thing happened to me it was anxiety and depression even with one drink. I believe the tugging is the Holy Spirit❤

I have cut WAY back since shifting to a healthier lifestyle and losing 70lbs. I was never a big drinker, but did enjoy a glass of wine/margarita while out. I always feel groggy the next morning and just slower than normal. It's been fun to find alcohol free options- there's a whole NA store in my city with tons of options. The NA drink options at restaurants around me are always delicious too!

I agree 100% I hate the way it makes me feels and like you said it takes days to recover! I noticed especially once I entered my 30s I can’t tolerate to! I haven’t drank in 3 months now! 🙏🏼🙌🏼

Yes!! Those lost days are not worth the few short hours of a couple drinks! That’s amazing you haven’t drank in 3 months…keep going!! 🙌🏻

Thank you Amanda! May I ask, is Pete still drinking? I’m just asking because I feel like I could give up alcohol, but then I would feel bad or not fun when we go out once a week on dates. We drink quite a bit together socially at home too, to the point I feel like it would be a buzz kill for him if I quit. I rarely get drunk, but mostly because I have a very high tolerance for alcohol I think. Does that make sense? I’m an athlete and I really should not be drinking much, if any.
You are helping so many women, we all appreciate you!

Hi!! Pete is still drinking! I totally get what you’re saying and I was worried about being a buzz kill but for us it’s actually been so much better for our marriage! We still go out for date nights alone and with friends and we both have fun even though I’m not drinking! It’s actually better because the next day I would typically be miserable (if I drank) and it almost canceled out the fun we had the night before because I was so regretful. Now we have a great time without the negative aftermath the following day and it’s been awesome. Especially if you’re not drinking to get drunk and your personality doesn’t really change, the fact that your drink doesn’t have alcohol probably won’t make a difference and it’s more in your head than anyone else’s, at least that’s my experience! ♥️♥️

No, you are definitely not an alcoholic. Your story is like mine - it’s alcohol usage disorder and the fact that we keep doing it (on occasion - not all day every day) even though we suffer from it, THAT is what it is. There is a high from it but that changes to anxiety and depression especially as we get older. It is a vicious cycle and because we had that fun when we were younger, it is almost engraved in us that things work the same way. They don’t.
