If you want to increase accuracy of the simulation, you should have the opening and closing of the video in the compressed non-anamorphic image as if projected on a screen with a standard projection lens instead of the Panavision/Cinemascope projection lens. (everything looks very skinny) Observe how this is shown in the opening or closing of many movies of the era, many times in sepia tones and sometimes in cross-processed colors.
"Lord of the Rings" was first published in 1954, so there is a change that a movie could have been made at during the 50s.
