Let me dive it a bit so I can give a proper review, but it will happen!
Great ! this will push competition to do something new as well, I'm happy owner of Perdix but must be honest in this matter - I feel like Shearwater set back with innovations for "classic" dive computers and started new strategy to make money on "entry level" equipment. I hope this will push boundary higher for next generation dive computers
I am also really happy to see some direct competition and hope it gives the market a bit of a jolt to look at where they can innovate. Healthy competition is important!
This has a lot of bells and whistles that a first time dive computer owner doesn’t really need. You’d pay $1000+ more for it too, haha. Personally am sticking with shearwater for now as well but this is a great competitor to shearwater now for their top product line, though still higher priced
@CircleHScuba smiles thank you. That's what I was thinking too. In fact it's why I went with the perigrine as my first computer. Great display and support. Then if I need more features I can spend more
Sidemount is a weak area for Garmin. What I’ve been told is they’re very aware of that and personally I’m hoping they do something maybe even firmware wise to support it (versus needing different devices). I know some folks at Garmin personally and have been told quite a few times this comes up as feedback and they’re aware 🤷♂️
This is really great, it is very nice to bring many features together and Thomas really likes this job, I watched all his videos, but sometimes divers have very different requests, now new dive computers have started to integrate rechargeable batteries instead of replaceable batteries, so what if a diver If he doesn't have time or forgot? That's why I want to get your opinion, do you have a recommendation for a dive computer with replaceable battery and navigation integration?1500 dollars is a bit tiring financially.. :(
I prefer a replaceable battery still myself, so I understand that concern. The shearwater Perdix 2 is my main computer right now and takes a simple AA Battery, that’s user changeable.
Great to see you make it to DEMA and sharing the findings. Glad they are going big screen, just hope people are smart to not task overload or over reliance. Nothing will beat the manual gauges lol another great supplement tool.
Dive computers are fantastic tools, way better than manual gauges on my opinion and safer too in some ways. But yeah, the more you have on the computer the more task load, and it’s why I’ve continued to dive shearwater so long as well. That said, this is an awesome entry to the market in my opinion!
@ agreed they been around a long time and I think everyone at one point had a garmin gps in their car. I like how it’s similar in design to the perdix. Hope you get your hands on one and can give us your first hand feedback
Thanks and I agree too! I’m hoping to have one in hand within a few weeks (per one of their marketing team members). I’ll dive and test it, then work on a comparison video to the perdix, obviously a review video, then probably compare it to the Mk3i as well
Some folks are saying it’s not very slim.. but is it thicker or thinner than the Shearwater Perdix 2? Also.. can this communicate with Mk3i since they both use the subwave T2 transceivers?
It can communicate with the Mk3i for sure. Dimensions available online for both computers: - Perdix 2: - WxHxD: 81x71x38mm / 3.2"x2.8"x1.5" - Weight: 190g (6.70oz) - X50i: - WxHxD: 98.3x62.4x24.5mm / 3.87”x2.45”x0.96” - Weight: 280g (9.88oz) I can do side by sides once I have the X50i in hand (likely will do a comparison video).
Great Video once again. Looks like a killer product that will disrupt the market. I love my shearwater but this looks really cool. Will see where this goes in 2.0 or 3.0 version.
Definitely happy to see more competition in the space. It’s lacking good side mount support but otherwise does seem very solid! Sidemount may be something they can do with firmware, I’m not sure. I’m excited to test the computer out though!
Another really cool video, thanks. Another really cool video, thanks. I also miss the sidemount mode, especially in this price range. I've already contacted the German support team, they said they're passing it on to the development department. Otherwise, it's a really cool computer. I think the more people ask for sidemount, the sooner they'll integrate it. All the requirements are there.

They were talking about it at my lds. I stuck with ordering a perigrine ai as my first dive computer. This looks interesting though

No problem! That’s what I found online but definitely will show comparisons in a community post and video once I have the new unit haha

The best diving channel on RUclips, with a great host!
Oh you’re far too kind. I’m sure I’m not the best at all haha, but I’m happy to contribute to the RUclips community! Thanks for being here!
Can I create my own text messages?
Sadly no, it’s all preset messages. I wish they allowed you to customize them on the surface too :/

Yes I know a few Garmin employees and they’ve told me they are very well aware that people want this. Hopefully it’s doable with firmware upgrades!
it's not secret
It had no leaks and no PR announcement until the show….so they definitely kept it secret.
