Tuomas is a big fan of Richard Dawkins also. Tuomas's lyrics are poetic. That is how he writes. I am so glad you are enjoying listening to Nightwish. I just discovered them about 4 yrs ago. Yes you do need to go to a concert. They are unbelievable live. I saw them for the first time a year ago. They did a compilation of Nightwish's songs over the years. It was fantastic. Tuomas started writing for the new album while on tour. He said it should be out in the spring of 2020. Then they will go on a world tour. The great thing about Nightwish is that they perform in all sizes of venues. Tuomas believes that fans should get the opportunity to see them. I encourage you that if they are any where near you really make the effort to see them. It was one of my greatest experiences................ :-)

Richard Dawkins actually collaborated with Nightwish songwriter Tuomas Holopainen (keyboard) on this album (endless forms most beautiful) u really should watch their song Greatest show on Earth from Tampere same gig as this one, it's about evolution and it's really a masterpiece. Discovered this group about a year ago. It has became my favorite by far. Saw them in concert in California about 9 months ago I guess now (they are not very big in USA yet so only about 3000 people in the building which was awesome). My son (18 years old) came as well. He didn't know much about Nightwish. Halfway through first song I looked at him and asked how he liked it so far. He had this strange look on his face and said "This is fuc#^!*# awesome. Tuomas (songwriter) also said some interview that he is mostly agnostic himself. But the whole album is intresting! Mostly is focus on science, and joyful things in life. And if you are into Dawkins, you find the lyrics very rewarding for sure! The Greatest Show on Earth is over 20-minute monster, but the liveshow (also from Tampere) is really something else too.

Criminally, they're not well-known enough HERE to get them into an arena. I've already set aside the PTO and money for a trip to Finland when they have their next show there. I'm hoping to get a group together to meet up there or even travel together. Finland is home to 4/6 of the band so it's their "home" show.

Yes, that was Richard Dawkins. Their last album Endles Forms Most Beautiful was inspired by his work and he is on that album in several songs.
The song from that album you should definitely react here some day is The Greatest Show on Earth - live at Tampare 2015 is the absolutely best version.
But if you like Dawkins, you should also do Wembley version or at least ending of that song at least for yourself if you don't want to do two reactions of one song. He was with them on the stage for his final lines. Atmosphere of that exact moment was really something you will never see on any other metal concert.
Well - if you do here both versions, I belive nobody will have problem with that :)

Many atheists may find my view as a Christian on this song surprising, but I hear much in this song that appeals to my basic beliefs as well...I think this song is appealing to critical thinkers. Don't just "believe" because you're told or raised that way. Believe it or not, this Christian gives you props and agrees with your basic position and views. Wow. Yeah, if you grew up going to Southern Baptists, I think that's enough to put a lot of people off. I'm very spiritual myself. Religion no - I see religion as being about money, power and control. If it's somebody's path to be religious though, that's ok. Live and let live. I don't like it when religion becomes abusive. I was raised a Christian (Anglican), then went through militant atheism and then pulled it back slightly to go with a spiritual belief in some sort of collective consciousness. There's some awesome research going on at the University of Arizona about that, and in other place regarding quantum physics, which is probably going to lead in the future to understanding more about consciousness, other dimensions, dark matter etc. It'll be really cool and hella crazy at the same time, I suspect. Oh, and I believe prayer works. Not in the sense of a magical entity granting wishes, but prayer can help people psychologically and obviously has some sort of genuine effect on the brain. I know atheists who pray and it works for them. You create your own reality, to a degree.

  • @pasit1738
    @pasit1738 5 лет назад

Faith's a personal thing. Everybody should develop some kind of comprehension about how things work. Religion is always about power, due to it's nature of being a group thing. I saw the light over decades ago by stopping believing in any gods. Your parents are your Gods, 'cause they can make you believe in anything, but with that power given to them in your birth, they can also be real Satans by their actions. Only thing you can control, with the variable power, are your own actions. So, let us all take care our kids.
Oh, this is really great performance of a awesome song. Marco, on bass, is also very talented singer with outstanding voice!

  • @jimmyboy131
    @jimmyboy131 5 лет назад

So, in a snap this went from a music channel to a religion and philosophy channel. Nice! First off, I appreciate your level-headed honesty on the topic at hand. I'll do the same.
Objectively, the quality of the song is first rate. That is consistently true with Nightwish and Floor. Topically, I didn't like it at all, because it's just more of the same things that I've heard many times before, the common criticisms of religion in general, and Christianity in particular. This one is especially cynical and snide. But, freedom of speech and and belief for everyone, I say.
As a Christian, I also grew up Southern Baptist, and have some issues with certain things generally held by that denomination, which is why I am no longer part of it. But no denomination is "the religion" itself, and I had to learn that over time. It's an interpretation of the actual religion which, in the case of Christianity is to "do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God". In a nutshell, that's it.
I think every ideology, religion, or belief should be put up to full and honest scrutiny, and it either stands on its own merits, or it falls apart. But typically, complaints against the religion often prove (as I've seen over time) to be based on bad teachings, bad behavior by it's followers (and hurts suffered from them), or on misunderstandings. I've suffered based on those things myself, and I don't minimize or make light of them. But thankfully, over time I've grown passed them. Other criticisms are based simply on human pride. I cannot get on board with the message of this song, or the Greatest Show on Earth (or of Dawkins himself), and so I can't fully enjoy them. Objectively, they're masterpieces of the art. But otherwise, I can't get into them.

Hes gonna habe to travel across the ocean if he wants to see a show like this one though. In the US they only do small venues without most of the pyro etc.

@@TerranigmaQuintet My dream is to see them outdoors at Redrocks natural amphitheater West of Denver. It seats over 9000 though, about 5 times their normal crowd. No pyrotechnics allowed, of course, but the venue would be spectacular.

I just had to sub to you when you said you're an Atheist. I always want to support my Atheist brothers, especially when they love Symphonic metal as much as I do.
One of my favorite bands is EPICA. You should definitely check them out.
I'd love to see your reaction to - Epica Sancta Terra
In this song, Simone Simons is singing with Floor Jensen.

The keyboardist writes 95% of their songs. Unfortunately, we are all going to have to wait a year to see them live. They are taking the year off touring to rest and write/record new album.

It’s too exhausting trying to understand religious belief let alone convert them. Take solace in knowing you aren’t so crippled by a fear of nothingness that you can’t see the beauty of life for what it really is. Imagine the things we could accomplish if they all put their energy into making this existence better instead of waiting on one that won’t come.

The thing is, even mentioning Christianity to many is considered an assault and harmful. No other "religion" has to deal with this on such a massive scale. Reaction was great bro. ... and I'll never mention religion again. PEACE

You have more hair in your beard than a lot of people have on their heads. grow it out some more and windmill with that :P
As others have said, if the subject matter of this song appeals to you, then you really need to listen to The Greatest Show on earth. An absolute masterpiece, I suspect that you will really enjoy it, and as a fan of Dawkins, maybe the Wembley version might be the way to go :)

That gives a whole new perspective to the old Burma Shave (shaving cream highway signs) advertisement.
      The farmer who
      was bald on top
      sure wished he could
      rotate the crop
      He needed
      Burma Shave
      (vintage 1950's ?)

I would not lay the horrors committed by, for example, the catholic church at the feet of religion.
Just like I wouldn't lay the horrors committed by the nazis or communists at the feet of atheism.
Those would be over simplified conclusions to draw.
I think it has more to do with simply being human.
