Lian Ramiro played a great game. But overall, Total team effort ginawa ng DLSU. Their relentless energy and hustle fueled their offense and the win eventually.
DLSU guards played so well that we all have forgotten about Doy Dungo. Even their coaching staff! Anyway, you mentioned everything I wanted to point out about this game, so I'll just summarize it in the form of these monikers: - Josh "walang kaba" David - Vhoris "baby tank" Marasigan - Lian "streetballer clutch" Ramiro And of course, Henry "kabado" Agunanne 😅
Good to see David get his confidence back again, also those 14/26 free throws killed UP but my god agunanne almost blew this game for us it was just pure PAIN seeing him on the court 😅
Bad ass Austria being too soft for Josh David is my game highlight 😅 And that passing ending in a Jcee 3 was soooooo amazing! KQ was the game’s POG but kudos to Josh David and Vhoris Marasigan for stepping up too.
It’s so painfully obvious that La Salle is by far the superior team. The refs helped UP with all those bs fouls and they still couldn’t win. The UP coach pointed at the ref and told him to wear glasses and the ref did nothing. He knew he would get away with it. I’m glad La Salle fought back and they deserved that win
Still the same story as last year, dominant bigs (KQ/philips) > dominant guards (up's plethora of guards. Also topex/caloy > gold Hence, still the same results
Well-deserved win by La Salle! As a basketball fan, I love their matchups with UP. I would love to see both teams healthy in the 2nd round and (barring any upsets) in the finals again hehe
Just want to first state that y'all really are one of the best UAAP-themed podcasts out there. Can't believe I just started listening to you guys now. Kudos! RE: DLSU bigs, I think a big part of CTR's selling point to his recruits is how he empowers his players to not be boxed into an archetype. However, do you think that CTR should just pull the plug on that thing entirely for the 2nd round, just say fuck it and stop asking Henry to do more than what Bright Nwanko was expected to do? In the same breath, do you think this is what they should also do with DLSU's current attempts to turn Mike into a high-post play-making hub? I have always seen it as a big W for the defense if it gets DLSU to devolve into post ups for Mike/Henry, and even a bigger one if they get Mike to playmake from the high post. PS: Also praying that DLSU continues to unleash Marasigan. Vhorn to Score talaga e🤣
Gusty win by the DLSU Green Archers! Dominated the 1st half but then it's such a pain whenever Agunnane has the ball. I think I noticed consecutive turnovers then had a hard time converting the free throws. The momentum swayed to UP and that was enough to give me nightmares from last season's 1st Round encounter with DLSU scoring only 3 points xD Josh David came in clutch to answer the PG issue of the GA and just balled tonight! anyway appreciate the analysis of both games. See you guys on Round 2!
That could change their strategy of recruiting and building a team. They could also use this defeat as motivation to get even better and run through with the championship. Lets see how they respond. -Maui
I am waiting for this episode because I have too many thoughts on that game. Honestly, tamang tama si Sir Gab na 80 percent mananalo ang team pag mainit sa 3 points in which na-capitalized ng Green Archers. Feeling ko mas may determination si Joshua David vs UP kasi huling matchup nila, nahirapan siya sa Filoil with 7 turnovers. Comeback is real nga sabi. All is well sa La Salle kanina. Kinakabahan din ako pag hawak ni Agunanne ang bola ewan ko kung bakit. Ang lala ng turnovers niya. Sana mag-iba lahat sa 2nd round. In terms of big man battle, QMB vs Motor Mike. Crush gear gawa ng mga box out, natalsik pa si QMB at one point. Maybe QMB (10 pts, 10 rbs, 4 blks) won the battle against Motor Mike (4pts, 8 rbs, 1 blk) but the usage din ang napansin ko and how QMB got his points, 31 mins si QMB and 22 kay Mike. All of the 10 points, putback or mismatch nakuha ni QMB. Para sakin ahh, head to head? Match na match. Hindi maka-score ang both players if they are going one on one. All physical attributes ang taya. As for the beef, sabi daw nandura daw si Coach Topex kay Reyland Torres. Tinanggi naman ito ng Coach ng La Salle. Kung totoo man yun, parang hindi ako makapaniwala sa sobrang disciplined na tao ng coach ng La Salle. Reyland Torres was talking to the bench of Green Archers din in a bad way. Anyway, i dont know. Pansin ko rin they are talking smack with each other, like trashtalk si UP then babanat pabalik ang DLSU. Lots of psywars. Mas malala ang 2nd round neto. Last one, sabi nga ng lahat. 16 deep ang UP. The best ability is availability. Nagawa naman nila bumawi ng wala si JD vs UST. Off night na din sila kasi kahit free throws hindi maganda for them. Too much hero ball for them. I really think Harold and QMB were the solid contributors.
Great podcast again! Always fun to watch your episodes! My takeaways from this physical-love battle game (hahaha): 1. DLSU hit their 3s early on and KQ set the tone. 2. Role players (David, Marasigan, Ramiro, Gollena) of DLSU stepped up and contributed well. 3. Coaching staff of DLSU should change the role of Henry Agunanne as he was still playing sloppy. I think he'll strive more on what QMB is doing. 4. UP missed a ton of free throws which cost them the game. They shot poorly from 3 as well. 5. Love the physicality but the officiating was horrible imo, flagrant foul on Vhoris was soft as hell. 6. JD Cagulangan's absence was a huge miss by UP as they needed a floor general. Cheers to more episodes to come! Question for Gab: What's your most expensive shoe you've ever bought? hahaha
Thank you for listening and sharing your thoughts. Agree w/ your points. Timing is everything and DLSU getting hot from 3 early and the role players stepping up gave them an advantage. On the other hand, wrong timing yung flu ni JD and the entire team going cold from the ft line. Great question about sneakers btw. We’ll answer in a future episode hehe - sam
Bukod sa intensity ng laro na to, gusto ko lang i-shout out si Evan Nelle. Ikaw talaga brad ang pinaka matapang na lalaki sa Pilipinas. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
anyway, thoughts on the game. QMB is really a big time impact player. Seemed like it was mostly QMB and Alarcon vs DLSU 🤣. Mostly everyone else was bad. Lopez had okay stats, and I do like that he kept attacking the rim but he got three (kind of stupid) fouls in a row early. Not something that you want to do when your team is counting on you to try and stop KQ. UP's offense is horrible without JD. I thought Fortea played point pretty well last game, but wasnt the case today. Whenever I see him, Felicilda always feels like a meh PG to me. DLSU's wings were amazing this game. This is championship caliber play. KQ did a real good job picking his spots. DLSU got 11 off rebs (vs 2 in the 1st) and only gave up 2 (vs 10 in the 1st half) in the 2nd half. Once again, Motor Mike's energy is crucial to their success. This may have been the difference.
QMB would have feasted if Phillips didnt bring the energy un the 2nd half! Agree some of Lopez’s fouls were silly he’s too important to get into foul trouble, Torculas hasnt gotten into a groove, Belmonte is not consistent. The wings are really the key for Lasalle to be an Elite teams. Iba when things are rolling for them. Very great points Insan! 😅-Maui
@@bolerosph no, I mean, not by Cedar, hehehe. I was saying ginagamit talaga nila dito yung shoehorn para madaling masuot yung sneakers and hiking shoes.
DLSU made more 3's and won the possession battle (less TO and not out rebounded). No excuse for UP even though Cagulangan didn't play because of their depth.
KQ was aggressive from the start. The only time he was not in the game while he was inside the court was the early minutes of the 3rd quarter. As an AdU fan/alumni I would not like to go against him. But as a Gilas fan, KQ is the future.
Great podcast guys, though the loss stings. Better now than later for the Fighting Maroons; hope the team takes notes from this loss. UP's guards were quiet this game. No JD to orchestrate the offense, and bad shooting from everyone except Harold Alarcon really messed up the guard play. Couple that with DLSU's guards stepping up and this felt like a UP loss at halftime. Hope JD gets well. QMB and Mike Phillips in the post is a monumental matchup. Both of them gave kudos to each other in the postgame pressers, and i can only see this matchup get more exciting in the next few games. KQ is a Superstar. To paraphrase an old basketball documentary, Superstars elevate their teammates to play as stars. Dude can play 1-5, and the DLSU offense adjusts seamlessly around him. Galing! Can't wait for round two. Cheers guys!
The Cagulangan absence has a huuuuuge, glaring impact vs UP. Coupled by their abysmal FT at 3pt shooting, this game had DLSU's name written all over it. KQ also proves why he is MVP-caliber. Napakasakit for UP ng mga shots nya during crucial moments. On the UP side, QMB and Alarcon's perfomances were also top-notched...to bad everything else is working for DLSU when the latter has the ball, lalo na yung mga big, morale-busting 3pt shots nila! Great match though. Hindi sya yung dikitan, down-to-the-wire game. Pero ramdam mo yung tension, physicality, the mind games, and yeah the "beef" getting beefier pa.
Loved the win for DLSU, though as much as I hate to say it, but this has to be taken with a grain of salt. UP wouldn't have been down big in the 1Q if JD played. And they could have probably completed the run in the 3Q if he was there. They looked lost in the offense at times and went into too many one on one plays. They managed to get the W against UST, but not against DLSU. I don't get why they didn't get QMB more touches. There were many instances where he was able to seal his man, get in a very deep position in the paint, only to have someone shoot the ball from 3. Great win from DLSU! KQ with an MVP type game and the other guys having great games as well. Good for them on pushing through even with the UP run and sticking to the strategy. Quiet game from Phillips but you can see how hard he worked against the UP frontline. CJ still needs to get his groove back on offense, and glad to see Ramiro playing capable minutes and being aggressive!
Hard to say they wouldnt be down that big that happened sa Filoil game too. But Jd would have been so crucial down the stretch when they started to go on their run. KQ with that mvp performance actually overshadowed the collective efforts of the wings and guards. Love what I’m seeing with Vhorris Marasigan. Abadam has also decided to be more aggresive. These wing players will be key if they are to repeat. -Maui
Could you please check if Henry Agunnane's fingers are still complete? Because he cannot seem to catch the ball. He always losses possesion. and daling masundutan at mawala ang bola. baka me kasama na ring nerbiyos!!!
Best Josh David game. Clearly La Salle's lead pg so wala na dapat yung pg problem na yan. Him and KQ were exhausted nung 4th. Sinasagad ni KQ yung higa niya pag natutumba siya tapos si David when subbed out wasn't even watching the game nakababa na lang ulo. After nung altercation between coaches, you can hear La Sallians screaming "Tom Chua" 😂😂 First time ako makarinig ng heckling towards an asst coach
Question for the next episode: Is it time to try Isaiah Phillips over Henry Agunanne in the 2nd round? Sayang kasi yung slot if henry will continue to play like that.
Yey! Happy for the quick upload bros! I am really looking forward to see Josh David to contribute in scoring. I was telling my friend that josh should take 8 shots or 2 pts each qtr. That will help open up for the other guys. I was worried Vhoris, Mike and Henry akala ko di makakalaro bec of sprain.
Happy to see him bounce back! That Filoil game was pretty rought. Ramiro also did well but the wild card for the end of the first round goes to Vhorris Marasigan. I believe has solidified his role for this team. -Maui
La Salle won this game because they made their three-point shots and UP didn't. DLSU made 11 out of 24 three-point shots. This 45.8% shooting was their highest season to date. Previous to this game, their were shooting at an average of 31.4%. Josh David who shot 4 of 6 from the three-point range previously made only 3 out of 14 in the first six games. Even KQ had his best three-point shooting game as he made 4 of 9 after averaging only a 29% accuracy in the first six games. UP's defense against three-point shooting is a concern. In their first four games, they only allowed 19% of attempts by their opponents. In their last three games (including vs. La Salle) this has increased to 36%. This was the worst three-point shooting game of UP this season, In their first six games, they were averaging 7 made thre-point shots at a 32.5% shooting accuracy. In this game, they only made 2 of 20 or 10%. The four players who were averaging the most attempts after JD; Fortea, Alarcon, Abadiano, and Lopez were 1 of 11 in this game. Credit the defense of DLSU, who were limiting opponents to 24% three-point shooting.
Strong start for DLSU and they were able to hit clutch baskets when UP was in the middle of their run in the 3rd. No excuses but JD's stability, usual 10 pts and 4 assists were missed. I think it's a character game for UP, same as the UST game, basically to measure where they are against these top teams without their main man. It's also to humble themselves that they are beatable if they continue the slow starts.
Actually he’s averaging around 13 and 6. But tama naman, no excuses for UP. Looking on the bright side, there’s leas pressure na for the season since they don’t need to sweep na. Better to loser now than later for them. Charge it to experience na lang hehe
@@bolerosph Agree! and I must credit Josh David. He seems to be the kryptonite of UP. He was instrumental too in S86 finals diba. Same vibe as Spencer to ADMU before. Also, imo, Topex pulled a Jason Kidd/CYG to stop momentum by doing 'something distracting' because he knew UP was going to takeover somehow. The altercation seemed to cooled down the UP run, at the same time rest his boys for awhile.
1. You can always count on up to come back, but you cant always count on dlsu to collapse. 2. Whats with the curious case of jd? Is he sick? Is he injured? Coz it doesn’t look that way.
And I was right HAHAHA Defense wins games DLSU was the better team today vs UP. KQ doing KQ David is clutch and literally broken Janjan ankles 😂 Team was pretty good and defending champs composure
UPs FTs were dismal and the 3pt shooting was abysmal.. 🤦♂️ so many “everything, but the shot” moments for UP too especially in the 1st half. Also, when I saw Belmonte guarding KQ, first thought that came to my mind was “eto yung sabi ni Gab e!”. Theeeeen KQ caught fire early 😅 Good thing for UP, QMB was amazing in this game! The other bigs should definitely step up tho. Huge shoutout to Harold Alarcon as well! UP can’t play like this if they want to avenge their back to back finals losses. Bawi boys!! UP definitely missed JD in this game but still, they could have done better. Congrats to DLSU! Lakas ni KQ as usual and joshua david has been killing UP since last year 😂 Saw the article from tiebreaker times. Apparently, as per torres dinuruan daw siya ni coach topex but topex denied. Sadly, i feel like UP lost the momentum after that “altercation”. And side note, tawang tawa din ako sa besties cam nung pinakita si Nelle tsaka Gandler HAHAHAHA laptrip, yari kay duts 🤣
Dapat kasi manood ng Boleros si coach Gold 😅 Kidding aside, biggest what if talaga was JD. Kahit di ka UP fan, you want to see both teams healthy para mas exciting. Siguro silver lining na lang na Alarcon has been dominant in the past two games na wala si JD. Hopefully he continues his hot streak na. As for the incident, hard to tell from the video what happened. But giving both Torres and Topex the benefit of the doubt. Kudos to the UAAP for investigating the incident immediately without waiting for any complaints to be filed. Hopefully this will give clarity to everyone. And whoever is in the wrong should be punished accordingly. Lastly, nawala yung pagka swabe ni Evan Nelle after e 😅
Lopez is a freight train, big and strong but tends to brute force everything, probably one of his biggest weaknesses is his BBIQ especially when he starts to drive to the paint
@@bolerosph if you're talking about the foul he drew on Marasigan, it was definitely a foul, he was moving sideways. Could've been a regular foul but maybe it's because it's college ball
Kudos to La Salle for locking down UP, largely preventing those leak outs which UP loves so much and keeping in step with them scoring wise. Also shame on coach Topex, come on you have to be better than that. Interesting to note that QMB cancels out Mike Philips but La Salle had more effective big men depth than the Great Wall of UP. UP truly is a team who lost 99% of their power when Cagulangan skipped the game. Missed his hot shooting at the first which helps UP establish early. I think going forward if JD misses more games it has to be Abadiano and Alarcon starting as the vet point guards. Felicilda is too small, has tunnel vision minsan not that good on defense to justify starting in JD’s absence. I would also end the Jacob Bayla experiment and start Lebron in the second round, time to remove the kid gloves Coach Gold
Thanks for sharing your insights! Sayang talaga si JD, pero I don’t want to take anything away naman from La Salle’s win. Well deserved naman! Agree w/ starting Lopez but I would switch him w/ Belmonte. I think in the UST game that’s what he did. Anyway, they can still have Alarcon be their 6th man para may firepower pa rin sa bench. As for Bayla, I prefer keeping him to gain experience and boost his confidence. Sabi nila it takes time for Fil-Fors to adjust to PH basketball. Now that they’re not gunning for the sweep, there’s less pressure for them to win (kayang-kaya naman nila most teams e hehe) so I would give Bayla more mins actually para battle tested na pag dating ng F4
As a UP fan/alum, super kalat maglaro ni torres and this is not the only game he’s super kalat. Sakit niya sa mata. His shot making decisions are always questionable to me. 2nd, coach gold’s substitution pattern is not “patterning”. I don’t understand the logic of subbing out QMB and harold when they were making a run, they were literally the only 2 players who were having an ok game. 3rd, i also don’t understand why they didn’t make more plays around fortea when he made a 3 jn the 3rd - could’ve probably utilized that. Idk, but UP’s sub pattern doesn’t make sense to me. Most of the time, momentum switches when UP rotates some players (which is normal i guess) but it’s always in the crucial moments of the game also so uhm k. Also, Belmonte as starting defender sobrang predictable na he was gonna get eaten alive - everyone knew it before it happened, so di ko din gets the logic of doing it. Make it make sense. Lastly, i’m surprised chicco briones didn’t play, but ok lang coz he’s also so hard to watch anyway.
Torres is not playing his natural position. I believe he plays best when he plays off the ball and as a catch and shoot 3 point shooter. That was his main role when he was in NU. Belmonte vs KQ outcome mightve veen predictable but maybe coach Gold wanted to see how Belmonte will matchup with KQ. Its all gonne be a chess match with both coaches trying different combinations till we get to the games that really matter. -Maui
UP needs to work on that 3-pointer and FREE THROWS! during marquee games. They really need Fortea to be that 3pt-specialist and not as a PG talaga. Also, maybe ako lang to pero even tho maganda first half ni Reyland, dami niyang wrong decisions sa endgame. There's one possession na nagdadabog pa pati. Lastly, Abadiano disappeared on this game huh, I kinda expected na magstep-up siya in Cagulangan's absence but he kinda struggling this season ano? Sana sa round 2 maregain niya form nya
UP doing their best Ateneo impression with those shooting numbers hahaha And good point kay Scary Gerry. Nawala siya. I thought Coach Gold's rotations were pretty weird also? - Gab
@@bolerosph Agree! Dapat si Lopez ang inistart instead of Belmonte and also, maling mali na si stevens yung pangcounter sa KQ at 5, dun nakalayo ulet DLSU. Sana pinasok din Ududo nung 2nd half. Another thing is Fortea did not play in 3Q din ata so yeah, may mga costly rotation error si coach
Henry “butterfingers” Agunnane: almost gave UP the game in that late 2nd/early 3rd.. first game I was happy with Ramiro! Hit a big 3 to bust the zone & hit a hopstep layup when UP tied the game.. PG problems? A “”healthy”” Josh David answered the call
It's actually better to experience losses sometimes, as it helps identify flaws and keeps the team grounded. DLSU played significantly better, especially with their dribble penetration and outside shooting. If UP can't match that and their three-point shots don't connect, they're likely to lose. Additionally, UP is underutilizing their bigs. It's frustrating to watch QMB consistently seal his defender but not receive the pass. UP's guard play has been subpar, resembling more of a sitio-style game instead of organized basketball. It's Tom Chua's defensive schemes that are carrying UP, not their non-existent offensive system. Even the much-hated Chot Reyes' DDO looked better.
My first post-game thought after this rollercoaster first round was "So if La Salle can play at this level, why don't they try to emulate this or something close to it every game?" 😂
UP still has bigs problem. QMB is the only servicable center. Question: would Gab wear a sando if UAAP does a Halloween day this year like last year? 😂
I want to push back on QMB being the only serviceable big. We saw in Filoil that the trio of Ududo, Alter, and Stevens were very capable and even outplayed the DLSU frontline. The problem is now they're rotting on the bench, i think. No rhythm, no experience in the UAAP And let's see 🤣 baka mapagalitan ako ng UAAP media - Gab
Hay nabudol na naman tayo sa UP vs. DLSU. Last season, we all said na magiging down-the-wire ang finals games, but we got 2 games na lopsided. 😕 And this game naman, like most of us, you guys predicted a down-the-wire game and the game was mostly unexciting imo. I was tempted to stop watching after half-time kasi ayoko mawala thrill ko from UE vs. AdU. May onting excitement lang (1) when UP tied the score (and it was short-lived pa) and (2) when UP and DLSU got technicals due to the coaches (exciting but not related sa game). Na-shookt din ako when I saw the starters and match-up sila KQ at Belmonte! Na-jinx mo, Gab hahaha. KQ feasted on Belmonte early in Q1 and Belmonte got 2 fouls agad (I'm with Sam na di rin ako high on Belmonte). 😆 On UP's side, I'm specifically calling out Lopez and Bayla for bad FT shooting (what is with the FTs of the Katipunan squads haha). On DLSU's side, good job by David for stepping up big in this game. A bit disappointed that JD didn’t play since I was looking forward to the PG match-ups, wanted to see if the Ramiro recruitment was “worth it” lol. Lastly, this game made me more excited na makapag-Gilas si QMB (not sure if he got his passport before 16 years old). P.S. Gab, ilang memes na meron yung Nelle and Gandler thing 😂
That UE vs AdU game was definitely the banger game of the weekend 🤯 Agree with your points. Sayang talaga though na wala si JD. Maybe it would’ve made it more exciting. Regarding FTs, may poor FT shooting virus siguro sa Katipunan. Highly contagious 😅 Regarding QMB, I don’t think he got a passport cause if he did, matagal na dapat siya na recruit sa Gilas. But we’ve heard that they are trying to petition for his eligibility in FIBA. Getting him to play college ball here in the PH can help his case. Lastly, I live for those memes haha - Sam
Few observation from this game: QMB neutralizes Motor Mike UP has no answer for KQ center Joshua David always play like curry on UP games The altercation between coaches killed the momentum of UP 3rd quarter
Surprising revelation that outside of QMB UP’s bigs are just that, big. Stevens and Udodo are disappointing and Alter seems to have lost all his confidence after being bumped from back up C to towel boy
UP bigs havent gotten consistent playing time. Thats the problem when you ride the bench for most of the game/season you’re not game conditioned. Motor mike was still crucial imo, qmb would have feasted if he wasnt there. That KQ at the 5 was a lethal lineup, jokic type of lineup. Joshua david has been crucial against UP happy he had a great game he was terrible during filoil. Kaya pala shinutdown na nila agad right after. -Maui
I don’t think so. Kalat ang UP dahil walang nafpafacilitate sa kanila. Kanya kanya sila. JD is a different kind of player. He can create anywhere. He can even make his teammates better. Maybe it can go both ways but not the same. Felicilda < JD. Forte < JD. Sinamahan pa ng sobrang lalang shooting ng UP. Kahit FT di pa mashoot. It’s possible that UP chose not to play JD Cagulangan against DLSU as part of a strategic decision. By keeping JD out of the game, UP could test their depth and other players’ performance, while also observing how DLSU responds without having to defend one of UP’s key players. This approach might give UP an advantage in future games by not revealing all their tactical options right away. It could also serve as a way for UP to evaluate DLSU’s weaknesses and strengths without showing their full hand, especially since they will face them again in the second round games later in the season.
Nakaka frustate at pinalaki pa yung alleged "dura incident". Kung nangyari man e di nga dapat tinotolerate pero sana yung energy na sinayang nila sa pagrereklamo e ginamit na lang for the game plan tapos after the game na lang na na-settle. Nagmumukhang sore losers ang UP eh.
Good point! Pero it shouldnt be taken lightly if it did happen. Things like that should not be tolerated. But yeah I agree it seemed like they lost their cool after that. The coaching staff should do better, they have to be the stabilizers. -Maui
@@deepspace4267 try to look at the big picture, nasira yung momentum ng UP after ng spitting incident. Kaya sabi ko after the game na lang. Yung proof e lilitaw naman sa dami ng kumukuha ng video. Nasobrahan sa pagiging emotional, nawala ang focus sa game.
To be fair to Alarcon, the team couldn’t get into their sets so he had to take over. And he kept the game close in the 2nd half. But yeah, they could’ve used JD’s playmaking.
Great win by La Salle. UP missed JD today. KQ was KQ. Alarcon did a great job ALMOST bringing UP back. David was the difference. Round 1 goes to La Salle. Now, if Topex indeed spat on a player during the game, then he's lost my respect. Which is sad for me because I admire Topex as a coach. What he's done to turn La Salle's program around has been nothing short of remarkable. But spitting on an opposing player has no place in basketball, regardless of what transpired previously that may have triggered this. Such behavior is downright classless and dispicable. To be fair, these are pure allegations. But seeing the UP coaching staff seething with contempt, and Topex skipping the post game press conference... eyebrows will definitely be raised. Hoping there no truth to this. Pero sabagay, di rin naman aamin yan kung totoo. Tsk tsk.
Yeah, Alarcon was amazing! Dunno why they didnt go to him earlier in the 1st half then they subbed him out later in the 2nd half. Unless napagod na talaga siya. Regarding the issue, seems like the UAAP is already investigating it. Hopefully the truth will come out soon. Sakto they have a break this Wednesday, so they have more time to review before they make a decision.
UP’s aura of being unbeatablle is damaged. Cannot hit 3s, FTs, how will they adjust in 2nd round? DLSU is not awed by them anymore, they have beaten them 3 straight times already ( except Filoil) and convincingly at that. That will be key in the Finals.
same as last year, the problem of UP is there is too much talent. Sadly, all these UP talents need to score. There is no designated go to guy. Kaya pag diinan laro hindi nila alam kanino dapat ang bola. Dapat may solid 3 players na majority of times who will make plays. La Salle, klaro na si KQ and main man.
Interesting point. To be fair, it’s clear naman that JD, Lopez and Alarcon are their best offensive weapons. Lopez and Alarcon did well taking over in certain stretches of the game against La Salle too (except for the FTs). So do you think it’s up to coach Gold to get it to their guys more?
@@bolerosph If UP loses game 3, time to change coaching staff of UP. LaSalle only have KQ, Philips...the rest of LaSalle are role players as good as the 8-15th man I guess of UP...imagine if the likes of Belmonte, Felicilda plays for LaSalle?! Those 2 can be solid starters for LaSalle. UP sadly have been outcoach for the past 3 championship. I think key for UP is to have QMB going then ensure Lopez and Alarcon will get their touches and I will have JD my man in the 2nd half. Keep it up guys!-Boleros from UPLB Alumni
San na yung makukulit na nagsabi na ma-sweep ng peyups ang elims lol Like I said, advantage pa ren to dlsu. Wiith their superior height/frontline (basketball IS a big man's sport) and coaching staff in topex/caloy. If up fails to address these, then most likely b2b for the GA
@fredtacang3624: Comparison the DLSU and UP bigs DLSU (Phillips / Agunanne / Gonzales) - 4 points, 18% on 2 of 11 shooting, 3 offensive and 6 defensive rebounds UP (QMB / Ududo / Stevens) - 10 points, 50% on 4 of 8 shooting, 7 offensive and 7 defensive rebound. I believe the UP frontline held up pretty well against this superior frontline of DLSU.
@@CarloRago I consider KQ as part of the bigs bec he can play positions 3 to 5, he's literally a huge difference-maker. Also, I said height/big man's sport, not necessarily position. Kaya western teams, anlaki ng lamang bec guards palang nila upwards of 6'5"/6'6" na. And KQ fits that mold bec he's literally TALL for most positions he plays, esp against local/yuap players The more interesting joust would be in the coaching. Ue seems to have gotten franz pumaren as consultant, and look where they are now. Up might need to do the same, unless perasol believes he's more than enough to supplement gold against the combined experience of topex/caloy
@@bolerosph As an atenean, I've admired lasalista ballers like limpot, d. lago, espinosa, ritualo, cortez, mbala. Maybe even teng too. Now it's philips and KQ. They keep reminding peeps that basketball is a big man's sport. Hence talent + height is always the way to go
UPs offense lived and died sa 1on1 play and hirap talaga sila umiskor pag ganito vs DLSU. DLSU guards can defend sa perimeter which forces players to drive sa basket at doon lang nakaabng sila Phillips/KQ/Other bigs para mag block/intimidate. Not sure why hindi itry ang lowpost with QMB or is it because QMB lacks this skillset? Many put DLSU as underdogs or just below sa UP in terms of power ranking but for me they will always be the number one team after seeing them beat UP sa finals last season. Hirap talaga ang UP vs DLSU.
Would’ve been interesting to see JD in the 1st round. He can definitely help them execute their plays. As for QMB, I I think he got a few touches in the post whenever there was a mismatch, but yeah, I think that’s not really his game
Im actually glad natalo up, para mahimasmasan mga mahilig mag-overhype sa peyups, whether detractor or supporter Wala naman nagbago: 1) height is might in basketball 2) hence, tall talented players (KQ/philips) > short talented players (up guards) 3) topex/caloy > gold Wala naman masyado nagbago from last year, so i have little doubt na ganun uli resulta this year
UP did not played tight defence. KQ showed why he stayed for S87. UP no excuses , the UP team was just passing the ball around and nobody elese wants to shoot. 😊
The reality is that kayong mga vloggers and basketball analysts ang sobrang hyped up sa UP na para bang napakasuperior nila at no signs of loopholes. Kaya pag natalo ang UP, sobrang big deal na at parang wala na silang nagawang tama. But in my own point of view, sitting out JD was UP's tactical decision to reserve JD's playmaking comes the finals. I won't be surprised if JD won't also play vs DLSU in round 2. UP wont sacrifice their main man for eliminations. Tinataga ko sa bato, magugulat ang La Salle sa laruan ng UP with JD on Finals.
@@bolerosph i am not a coaching staff. You are not the coaching staff. How would i know? I said it's my own point of view. How would you know huh? Regarding you vloggers so hyped with UP so fans would mocked them if they lose. No answer with that? You are all for fame and youtube revenue, i guess.
Lol! Up was beating teams badly during their first 6 games. They handily defeated Lasalle in all their pre season matches. This could be their first loss vs a local team. It doesnt change that they are not a dominant team just because of an off day vs Lasalle. They shot 20% FG in the first half yet was still able to make this a game. We’ve said all year long that both Lasalle and UP are on another tier. That hasnt changed. -Maui
We don't have to be part of the coaching staff to answer the question 🤣 Also, of course we hyped up UP! How could we not? They have a strong roster, have been to the finals three straight years, and have been blowing out opponents left and right. Lol. And did you even listen to the episode? We praised Alarcon and QMB but we criticized the others which was based on what we saw in the game. We didn't just mock them - Gab
@@bolerosph you are not answering the question. You are merely giving statistics and so on. I am an Atenean but for me, you Maui is the least competent among 3 boleros and no need to mention, the most bias.
Lmao same reaction with those henry post ups. Just play like QMB, you are the same height and length as him. Also that flagrant 2 on Vhoris is a weak call. That boy is built like a truck, anyone would have bounced off him.
Exactly! Henry should take notes from QMB! Magaling pa mag FT si QMB haha Agree also. It just looked bad because Lopez fell awkwardly. Otherwise, it was a good contest. One can even argue that there was no foul
Kudos to the UAAP for investigating it immediately after the game. Unfortunately things happened so fast that the refs missed what happened in real time. Hopefully the truth comes out and people are punished accordingly.
What PG problem are you talking about? you mean UP's PG problem without JD😂 - Josh David Agunane should play like DeAndre Jordan, blocks, rebounds and alley-oop plays. He will be more effective. no more post-up. What if mind games si coach gold? Hindi nya papalaruin si JD against La Salle until finasl. Ala coach Popovich.😂
Josh David has once again proven himself against UP when it matters. Yeah, good point about HA. He’s decent to good when he’s not trying to do too much. Nwanko had his moments last year too. HA should talk to him haha Lol at coach Gold’s next level coaching haha! Matatawa ako if that really happens in the 2nd round.
Thank you La Salle for preventing UP from a first round sweep! Break their hearts, boys!

Lian Ramiro played a great game. But overall, Total team effort ginawa ng DLSU. Their relentless energy and hustle fueled their offense and the win eventually.

Honestly didnt expect the result but im so glad were not having a stepladder semis. Congrats, DLSU!
DLSU guards played so well that we all have forgotten about Doy Dungo. Even their coaching staff! Anyway, you mentioned everything I wanted to point out about this game, so I'll just summarize it in the form of these monikers:
- Josh "walang kaba" David
- Vhoris "baby tank" Marasigan
- Lian "streetballer clutch" Ramiro
And of course, Henry "kabado" Agunanne 😅
HHAHAHAHA sobrang benta nung kay Henry! Siningit pa sa dulo 🤣
Good to see David get his confidence back again, also those 14/26 free throws killed UP but my god agunanne almost blew this game for us it was just pure PAIN seeing him on the court 😅
David was big time! And Agunnane... is a bust 🤣 grabe, kinakabahan kami every time he touched the ball
I guess all La Salle fans agree that it's a PAIN to watch him fumble the ball several times. They should give him finger workouts at the very least!
Bad ass Austria being too soft for Josh David is my game highlight 😅 And that passing ending in a Jcee 3 was soooooo amazing! KQ was the game’s POG but kudos to Josh David and Vhoris Marasigan for stepping up too.
The supporting cast stepped up big time for DLSU!
Your prediction where on point in that game. If la salle hitting those 3's ain't no way UP can win. Salute to you guys😅
Also topex/caloy > gold
Hence, still the same results
Well-deserved win by La Salle! As a basketball fan, I love their matchups with UP. I would love to see both teams healthy in the 2nd round and (barring any upsets) in the finals again hehe

The momentum swayed to UP and that was enough to give me nightmares from last season's 1st Round encounter with DLSU scoring only 3 points xD
Josh David came in clutch to answer the PG issue of the GA and just balled tonight!
anyway appreciate the analysis of both games. See you guys on Round 2!
I'm sure a ton of DLSU fans were having nightmares or flashbacks while UP made that run 😂 - Gab
UP is hyped so much even bfor the start of the season… may end up again another bridesmaid finish ugh
Thank you po sa pag-upload💚 Inaantay quh talaga to kanina pa ako naghahanap😅
Hehe thank you for the support! ♥️
Great podcast again! Always fun to watch your episodes!
My takeaways from this physical-love battle game (hahaha):
On the other hand, wrong timing yung flu ni JD and the entire team going cold from the ft line.

anyway, thoughts on the game.
😅-Maui

All good points! You're right that it's better for UP to lose now than later
Take the lessons and move on
Never exepected DLSU won over UP. JD didn' t play though. But DLSU really did a good job.
JD's absence could definitely be felt. They just needed someone to right the ship when the offense was going nowhere
Also, nahawa ata UP sa FT shooting ng Ateneo 😂😂😂
They didn’t get QMB more touches because their guards are looking to shoot first, unfortunately.
-Maui
Where is Alter, by the way? I didn't see him play, or baka hindi ko lang nakita....

As we did say in the preview, three point shooting proved to be the key. Thanks for summarizing the numbers, Carl. Great as always ♥️
Theeeeen KQ caught fire early 😅
Good thing for UP, QMB was amazing in this game! The other bigs should definitely step up tho. Huge shoutout to Harold Alarcon as well! UP can’t play like this if they want to avenge their back to back finals losses. Bawi boys!! UP definitely missed JD in this game but still, they could have done better. Congrats to DLSU! Lakas ni KQ as usual and joshua david has been killing UP since last year 😂
Saw the article from tiebreaker times. Apparently, as per torres dinuruan daw siya ni coach topex but topex denied. Sadly, i feel like UP lost the momentum after that “altercation”. And side note, tawang tawa din ako sa besties cam nung pinakita si Nelle tsaka Gandler HAHAHAHA laptrip, yari kay duts 🤣
Dapat kasi manood ng Boleros si coach Gold 😅
Kidding aside, biggest what if talaga was JD.
The only problem now is avoiding those dumb fouls
@@bolerosph the second offensive foul wasn’t a good call. Lopez got bumped and lost balance that’s why he instinctively grabbed at the defender.
To be fair, DLSU got its fair share of bad calls from those Lopez drives... So quits lang 😁

Vhoris should change his jersey number from 2 to 16 para La Salle has an AK47 and an M16 duo next year.
UP FIGHT!
-Maui
Rock a green Boleros shirt/sando naman? haha!
Maybe! Magpapagawa pa ako. Still feels weird to wear DLSU green 😆
UP doing their best Ateneo impression with those shooting numbers hahaha
And good point kay Scary Gerry.
Grabe, we were so frustrated with Agunnane 😬😬😬
True. Sometimes, teams need to lose to learn and get better
Gani Stevens, the Pinoy Joakim Noah at the FT line 🤦🏻♂️
Hahahaha maaaaan those FTs
My first post-game thought after this rollercoaster first round was "So if La Salle can play at this level, why don't they try to emulate this or something close to it every game?" 😂
Para exciting daw hahaha
UP still has bigs problem. QMB is the only servicable center.
Question: would Gab wear a sando if UAAP does a Halloween day this year like last year? 😂
I want to push back on QMB being the only serviceable big. We saw in Filoil that the trio of Ududo, Alter, and Stevens were very capable and even outplayed the DLSU frontline. The problem is now they're rotting on the bench, i think. No rhythm, no experience in the UAAP
And let's see 🤣 baka mapagalitan ako ng UAAP media - Gab
@@bolerosph yeah benching them contributed a lot. And hey you could say that your costume is a tambay sa kanto. 🤣
Pwede 😂😂😂 magdala pa ako ng Red Horse para complete look
That UE vs AdU game was definitely the banger game of the weekend 🤯
Agree with your points. Sayang talaga though na wala si JD. Maybe it would’ve made it more exciting. Regarding FTs, may poor FT shooting virus siguro sa Katipunan. Highly contagious 😅
Regarding QMB, I don’t think he got a passport cause if he did, matagal na dapat siya na recruit sa Gilas. But we’ve heard that they are trying to petition for his eligibility in FIBA. Getting him to play college ball here in the PH can help his case.
Lastly, I live for those memes haha - Sam
Few observation from this game:
QMB neutralizes Motor Mike
UP has no answer for KQ center
Joshua David always play like curry on UP games
The altercation between coaches killed the momentum of UP 3rd quarter
-Maui
It would have been the same result even if JD played but closer.
We will never know. JD is a different beast
@@septemberconcepcion4866 you got what's in my very mind. It's UP's tactical decision to sit out JD in this game.
Yep, we already saw that last year
Nakaka frustate at pinalaki pa yung alleged "dura incident".
-Maui
Ikaw maduraan tingnan natin kung di mo palakihin.
@@bolerosph Agree. Spitting on opposing players especially if you're the coach has no place in basketball anywhere. UAAP, NBA or even sa kalye.
@@deepspace4267 try to look at the big picture, nasira yung momentum ng UP after ng spitting incident. Kaya sabi ko after the game na lang. Yung proof e lilitaw naman sa dami ng kumukuha ng video. Nasobrahan sa pagiging emotional, nawala ang focus sa game.
Hnd pwdng Alarcon agad. He’s too predictable, they’ll know he’s going to shoot, and anticipate an emergency pass when he gets trapped.
@@bolerosphsomeone said nagcramps daw si alarcon that’s why they subbed him out.
Next shirt idea: Si ____ nanonood yata ng Boleros (today it was di nanonood).
😂😂😂 Ang galing! Thanks for the idea
Take note that KQ only had 1 turnover against the best defensive team in the UAAP😮😮😮
That's the MVP for you
UP’s aura of being unbeatablle is damaged. Cannot hit 3s, FTs, how will they adjust in 2nd round? DLSU is not awed by them anymore, they have beaten them 3 straight times already ( except Filoil) and convincingly at that. That will be key in the Finals.
There were a lot of holes in UPs game. They will have lots to work on
Is Nelle the bravest man in the Philippines? 😂
He's never afraid to take the big shots 🤣🤣🤣
same as last year, the problem of UP is there is too much talent.
Cool story, Rayland. 🤐😂
masasabi ko lang kay torres.. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes
San na yung makukulit na nagsabi na ma-sweep ng peyups ang elims lol
Like I said, advantage pa ren to dlsu. Wiith their superior height/frontline (basketball IS a big man's sport) and coaching staff in topex/caloy. If up fails to address these, then most likely b2b for the GA
@fredtacang3624: Comparison the DLSU and UP bigs
DLSU (Phillips / Agunanne / Gonzales) - 4 points, 18% on 2 of 11 shooting, 3 offensive and 6 defensive rebounds
UP (QMB / Ududo / Stevens) - 10 points, 50% on 4 of 8 shooting, 7 offensive and 7 defensive rebound.
I believe the UP frontline held up pretty well against this superior frontline of DLSU.
@@CarloRago
I consider KQ as part of the bigs bec he can play positions 3 to 5, he's literally a huge difference-maker. Also, I said height/big man's sport, not necessarily position. Kaya western teams, anlaki ng lamang bec guards palang nila upwards of 6'5"/6'6" na. And KQ fits that mold bec he's literally TALL for most positions he plays, esp against local/yuap players
The more interesting joust would be in the coaching. Ue seems to have gotten franz pumaren as consultant, and look where they are now. Up might need to do the same, unless perasol believes he's more than enough to supplement gold against the combined experience of topex/caloy
KQ is a cheat code. kahit kalaban mo siya, you can’t help but to admire this guy. Tigilan lang niya yung mga fancy passes niya 🙈

As an atenean, I've admired lasalista ballers like limpot, d. lago, espinosa, ritualo, cortez, mbala. Maybe even teng too.
Now it's philips and KQ. They keep reminding peeps that basketball is a big man's sport. Hence talent + height is always the way to go
Up players doing their own thing again. No teamwork at all
UPs offense lived and died sa 1on1 play and hirap talaga sila umiskor pag ganito vs DLSU.
Dominant bigs (KQ/philips) > dominant guards. Also topex/caloy > gold. Still the same story as last year, kaya same results pa ren
Would’ve been interesting to see JD in the 1st round. He can definitely help them execute their plays. As for QMB, I I think he got a few touches in the post whenever there was a mismatch, but yeah, I think that’s not really his game
SABLAAAAAAAAAAY hahahahaha
Im actually glad natalo up, para mahimasmasan mga mahilig mag-overhype sa peyups, whether detractor or supporter
Wala naman nagbago:
1) height is might in basketball
2) hence, tall talented players (KQ/philips) > short talented players (up guards)
3) topex/caloy > gold
Wala naman masyado nagbago from last year, so i have little doubt na ganun uli resulta this year
UP did not played tight defence. KQ showed why he stayed for S87. UP no excuses , the UP team was just passing the ball around and nobody elese wants to shoot. 😊
Losing Cagulangan threw everyone off their game. Plus it seems the pressure of the big game finally got to UP
They did play tight defense. DLSU just handled the pressure better
Bbq Chicken 😂
Hahahahaha Shaq would be proud
Sarap asarin ni alarcon! Hahaha

Why would UP sit out their best player when they had a shot to sweep the eliminations and earn an outright seat in the Finals?
-Maui
We don't have to be part of the coaching staff to answer the question 🤣
