Thanks for uploading! I watched that as a kid, and I was wondering for several decades now how to finally make my own clouds in a jar because grandpa switched the channel back in the eighties - and unlike MacGyver this show was never again aired anywhere. There is another episode of this show showing how to create realistic cumulus-looking clouds in a fishtank with milk and something else, is this episode uploaded here somewhere too? Can`t find it.
Have a look at ruclips.net/video/p3y_KOEaySg/видео.html as I think that's the one. I was prompted to do it after seeing how they did the clouds in Raiders of the Lost Ark - Rob
This may work better if you first push down to increase the pressure AND TEMP and let a little more water evaporate; then pull. Also use rubbing alcohol, which is water and alcohol. The alcohol helps make a netter cloud. .. Dew point changes with temperature (not pressure). ... Using a liter plastic bottle and a bicycle pump. First pump pressure into it then when you release the pressure, the temp drops and a very good cloud forms. ruclips.net/video/cXpuo3YHOn0/видео.html
I grew up watching The Curiosity Show in Adelaide. Great memories. Out of curiosity, Rob and Deane, did you ever do a segment on pinhole cameras? I made a camera obscura recently out of a cardboard box and a sheet of baking paper. During daylight, the view through the baking paper is a bit dim but at night in a dark room, it works great with a bright light source like a torch etc. Other family members were impressed when they saw the individual lights from my multi-light torch projected on the baking paper screen. One of them was amazed that this kind of image formation was possible with such a tiny hole.
Sort of - with a difference. Have a look at the segment on how animals see the word-those with slit pupils instead of round pupils )link is below). There is a 'slithole' camera there - Rob ruclips.net/video/5pij1OE1uPM/видео.html

It's just amazing to see cloud in a jar. It happens because water has a certain vapour pressure at a given temperature but when you pinch the balloon upwards it creates a low pressure inside the jar and water has to create more vapour to compensate. This results in cooling of water and the surrounding, causing vapour to condense and create an illusion of cloud. The real cloud process formation in atmosphere is very complicated due to too much variables involved like amount of dust particles for seeding, temperature at which it forms since tropopause altitude varies with latitude and the temperature of the region etc....
Awesome I just did it! I first couldn't see any cloud in the first variant. But then, I tried the smoke as in the video, and it worked wonders! In order to put a lot of smoke, I burned a small piece of paper, in fact I dropped directly in the water, I then put the ballon skin over the opening as in the video, while the paper was burning inside while floating, the water soon got to the fire and extinguisished it, but it worked as a way to put a LOT of smoke. Then, the effect is more visible if the sun is shining on the inside so it shines the droplets, making them much more visible. (but not on your eyes , it will blind you and you won't be able to see the subtle cloud). I also used the other part of the ballon after cutting it, because I forgot to make the knot first! I will try it more times and with other setups, and tell you more later!
"Now, watch what happens when I light up this fat doobie of Brisbane Red, or perhaps, as Americans might call it, a spliff. Notice how the *clouds* come out. Have you ever really watched them. Like REALLY watched them? Try lighting one up and looking at clouds sometime, yourself. It's pretty far out!"
I forgot how great Vanced was until I accidentally opened this video on the regular RUclips app and it forced me to watch horrible commercials for a full 20 seconds. Do yourself a favor. Get smart. Get Vanced.

Me: youtube algorithm is sh@t. Also me: Looking at real clouds, I wonder if there is a way to make clouds.. Also me: Opening RUclips and just scrolling down.. RUclips: This video

I am not sure he knows what a centimeter is. LOL update to everyone responding to this yes the balloon is off but my initial comment was focused on the amount of water he says 'about a centimeter " and pours an inch and a half. LOL Good to see everyone here fighting the good fight. I also love these videos as much as I loved Mr. Wizard.
He said cut the bottom centimeter away, meaning make a cut across the balloon 1 centimeter away from the bottom, and that's what he did, I estimate he actually cut it 1.5 centimeters away, but it's close enough, you probably thought he meant 1 centimeter cut in length, but it's just you not understanding what he said.

I was having a bad day, then I learned how to make clouds in jars.
Thanks for posting these wonderful videos.
I love this show I used to watch it as a kid so its great nostalgia for me to watch it now as an adult thank you curiosity show
I am now one step closer to achieving my dreams of becoming a weather based supervillain!
All you need now is to put the earth in a giant jar and cover it with a balloon, should be easy enough.
@@E_y_a_l not far removed from the truth my friend.
🤣 clearly an under appreciated comment

Bro I love this show! Why can't there be this quality stuff on TV nowadays?
Oh yes ! The good old days - remember when television was educational ?

So did this show ever do a proper segment on convection?
Did Deane have a cold that day? He sounds a bit different than normal.

If you were a kid who loved to play with matches, Curiosity show was a must see.
you too can show zeus that you can also make clouds!
Nice!

There are clouds that are like grids, multiple trails in the sky.
They're not clouds, they're trails, and you live near a flight path. Next...
I love the part where he lights a ciggy and blows it into the jar.
Ahhh the 80s.

One centimeter is four centimeters.
Hahaha I was thinking exactly the same thing... they're legends though! Loved this show as a kid
Don't even need that much.
