Anthony Frade just fine! ive had friends catch them on 5wt with 4x tippits. pulling in 30+in carp. granted, a carp like these in the video would need a bigger rod. but if you take your time and work the fish slowly you can catch monsters on little 3 weights if you know what your doing. but a 7 will do just fine!
Note that how hard carp fight varies a lot with temperature. I usually gear fish carp- March through mid May I can pull in big carp no problem with a medium spin rod and 8lb line. By June however, I'm using a baitcaster with 10-12lb line- a carp over 20lb would probably have no problem spooling my early season setup.
I don't understand this video. Every time I go to land a carp they go buck wild. These guys bring them in smooth as silk. They don't flop or do one last rip. What gives?
kitchensalive those carp have been here so long and the damage has already been done releasing them will not do any harm. Asian carp on the other hand and currently invading and releasing one of those into the Great Lake could bee devastating.
And to go along with Ryan's points--I guarantee you that humans have caused far more damage to our natural resources than a Carp ever could cause. It's people who have polluted and destroyed the water and yet people wanna label carp as a 'trash' fish v.s. admiring a fish that persists in the polluted waters that humans have destroyed. Carp are held in very high esteem in Europe, holding tournaments worth millions of dollars v.s. here in the US where they think of Carp as a 'destructive' fish.
Carp has this smell that makes me nauseous. Not like typical fish smell. And slimey like an eel. But they are true locomotives. Gear must have stopping power.
i like the whole fly fishing set up though its pretty cool
Great video, wish I had carp near me....
Andy!!! Weird to see you here!
You most likely do. They’re everywhere. Good luck catching them on a fly though. It’s impossible
Great video thanks for you tips, we have plenty of carp here in nilgiris I'm gonna try your method 😎👍
what reel was the host using?
It's like a freshwater bonefish flat
Where abouts lake michigan was this?
probably around beaver island, or traverse city
YEP!

hahahahaha...
Near what city was that ? Carp is my favorite fish on the fly and looking for new destination.
Alec Smith I like the Barrys carp bitter and a variation of a bonefish fly called the gotcha. But would not mind using thise big flies.
I also use the backstabber fly. simple and deadly.
Grass carp are silver. You could tie some grass green dubbing and make it look like algie for those carp.
Yes. I could also recomand a book by Jay Zimmerman. Carp flies: how to tie and fish them.

my top 3 tips use dough balls mixed with vanilla extract, use polarized glasses, and use a bow
Mmhmm, sure.
Just about or maybe more hardcore than fly fishing musky.
Why do you let those destructive fish go?
