- Amazon warehouse deals offer used and returned items for a discount, including PC components. I decided to order a graphics card that I figured must have been sitting on the shelf for quite some time, and when I opened it I was very pleasantly surprised.

The Amazon Warehouse honestly can have some incredible deals on it. Got a 3090 that looked completely brand new for only $700 back when they were going for upwards of $1300 or more. Still functions perfectly to this day

but its still a bit of a coinflip to get scammed or not and they can be picky sometimes when u try to explain the problem to them. also iirc the "packaging will be damaged" quote maybe changed and before it said (in a different language) "can be damaged" or "might have scratches" but since they have a multiple "warehouse" products & condition vary by a lot, they prob rather just say packaging is damaged.
Yea, you can find some great deals. Beginning of last year I bought a $800 Synology 4-bay NAS for $450 through the warehouse. Said it was in good condition, but when I got it, it was pretty much brand new. Everything was still sealed.

Jokes aside, don't buy from Amazon either way. And as others have said, you got lucky. It's a coin flip, and frankly, anything could've been done with that GPU. Suppose you ended up with a 3090 that worked fine for about 6 months then blew up and became unusable due to having been so thoroughly abused before. Well, you already paid for it. So what now? Also, Amazon sucks.
Damn what a beautiful GPU. I really miss those smaller shrouds with simple designs, no RGB and no ridiculously large heatsinks.

I used to have an Asrock Phantom Gaming D card like that. Multiple, in fact. A 580 8GB, a 570 8GB, and an RX6600 (xt or non-xt, can't remember), at some point. Great cards. Good value. Not too big. Nice looking. Decent thermals.
Miss the 700 line of GPU's from Nvidia on how it was so simple it looks, the 750 was insane for around $140 back in 2015 and I do miss that card sometimes compared to the XX50's line of cards of nvidia's that I find them to be overpriced.
i will never buy an graphics card from amazon warehouse again. Had bought 2 and both of them are shipped card only (in the description it was not mentioned). Card only, no original packaging, they popped the card without anything in the package. And suprise? both cards are Dead on Arrival. wasted money and time on this. Don´t know what type of people are working in the warehouse, but they have no clue how to handle these types of electronics.

I used to work at amazon for customer returns. It was an XL facility though. I’ve never once turned on an electrical appliance or attempted to check if it’s in working order. We are instructed not too as everyone who is processing has rates they must meet. In that facility at least, we only care about the condition of the box.
A lot of times, packages either never see a customer or the customer sends it right back. Even the packages that never make it get pretty messed up.
I’ve also used amazon warehouse a lot and for the most part I’d say it’s pretty worth it. Most of the items I got were just fine. If you don’t like it just send it back. Only thing you really have to lose is time
Its all about bosses hitting KPI which can be a problem when a business get to big. They just look at numbers

@ArtisChronicles There is a very big difference between the R7 and R9 Radeon cards. He unboxed an R7 370, and I'm talking about the R9 270 or 370. Even an R9 270 would destroy an R7 370.

I had a few like new Sapphire R9-280x 3GB cards laying around. Paired them with new old stock Xeon X5570s I got for a great deal. They make a great budget esports rig and play some older AAA games really well.
I remember the 300 series was just a rebrand of the 200 series without any real improvements, it's still really cool to find one brand new in box. If you found something like a R9 290X or Fury X, that might be worth a lot more kept sealed.
Maybe no large improvements in general performance, but if you managed to get a 390 then you would've had 8GB of vram. Pretty important at that time.
Fury was decent at 4k, but wasn't ideal because of the 4GB of HBM. It would've performed a lot better if they managed to give 8GB for the price of the cards. I can understand why they didn't though, HBM was very expensive to use at the time.
Yeah, the entire line of 300 series cards was a refresh of a mostly refresh of another series of cards before that. Some tweaks got the architecture a bit better performance, but of course drivers really brought the biggest improvements.

Lol, and the 200 series was a rebrand of the 7000 series. This card is basically a 7850 (the same "1024:64:32" setup, slightly higher clock), which is even more impressive when you think about it (the performance). Basically a 2012 card, back then 2GB was pretty high end (the 680 had 2GB VDDR).
I still have one of these in a non working PC, made me too many altcoins to discard, simply sentimental lol.
@@rotemlv 200 series and 300 series were partial rebrands of 7000 series. The only real new cards for the 200 series was the 285 and 290s. (even the 260s were rebrands of the only GCN 2.0 HD 7000 card the 7790)
Out of the 300s the 380X and the Fury cards were the only new cards. And the 380X was a 285X, which was planned to release at some point, but they never released it with that name. Rest were rebrands. The DX12 GCN 2.0 and 3.0 cards aged relatively well. DX11 GCN 1.0 cards like this one didn't. Buying a 950 would have been a much better buy in 2015 than this 370.
Amazon's quality control is a bit funny.... having bought from both returns and new quite a few times I've had similar experiences where stuff was new from returns but ironically I've also bought 1-2 things that were suppose to have been new that were obviously used.......

I picked up a mint condition RX 5700 from ebay for only $50. Just needed reflashed from a mining bios back to a graphics bios. Takes less than 10 minutes. It seemed so daunting to do but , was actually very straight forward and simple.

Good Card! My second ever GPU was the R7 270X 2gb. This one is just essentially the rebranded non-x variant. It ran everything but Crysis 3 at 1080p High 50-60fps for the time. I think it was slightly weaker than the GTX 960. The RX 580 8gb was a huge upgrade.
GTX 960 is way better. 30-40%.

I actually ran a second hand GTX 960 4gb for almost a year before I bought the RX 580 8gb. I have nothing but good things to say about the GTX 900 cards in particular!
I have the Sapphire branded 4gb version of this card. Never really used it for gaming, but I did run a few benchmarks with it. At the time, I guess it was "adequate" at 1080p for the games that were popular at that time period, but I used it primarily for streaming. Stil have it installed in an old AMD 1055t box.
I have had every generation of these cards from the 280, 370, 380, 480 and 580, they all aged really well. I still have fortnite on a pc with a rzyen 2600 and a rx 580 8gb and it plays great. I have played warzone 1.0 on it with no issues at 1080p but havn't tried 2.0. but they 370 4gb card still runs most games in rather playable if you curb your expectations. Love your videos

When I first get into a computer stuff back in 2013 I'm still using iGPU with Pentium CPU. Over time I'm upgrading the parts using my spare money Little by little, but always bought second and old gen CPU/GPU like i5 3gen R7 250 but for me back in the days that was a huge upgrade going from Pentium to i5 and with GPU. That making me more enthusiastic about PC parts and technology. And now I have good decent Ryzen 7 5700X with RX6600XT.
Watching this kind of video just bring me back to the good old days I'm struggling to get decent PC parts
AMD rebranded this GPU many times over a few years. It originally appeared as the HD 7850 and 7870, then became the R9 270 and 270X and finally became the R7 370. During this time AMD was really pushing R&D towards something that could succeed GCN, buying time by relaunching the same card.
Warehouse deals isn't really second hand in the traditional sense, it's customer returns and stock from the main Amazon stock that has been damaged (either the item or the box).
As for the description, they pretty much cut and paste that for every item they list. I ordered a 50" 3D LG TV several years ago and it had never even left the box yet description was pretty much identical to the description you mentioned for this. From what I understand if you receive something from Amazon and then decide you do not want it, Amazon will always put it into warehouse deals regardless of whether there was an issue or not.
You do though have to be careful as recently I bought a PS5 dualsense controller from warehouse deals and it had stick drift, so was obviously a customer scam. (customer ordering a new one, then returning their old one in the box for a refund)

Every now & then when I have some money to buy a GPU for my collection Powercolor PCS is one of my search options as like Sapphire's VaporX & Toxic they are a great looking design.
This was actually the graphics card in my first gaming PC, same model too. It wasn't a great card even when it was new, but it's nice seeing that a lot of games can still (somewhat) run on it.
I didn't realise DirectX 12 was already 8 years old.

I've got a bunch of stuff on marketplace before.... luckily no issues and found some great bargains. It's even better during other discount events where they discount the warehouse stuff even further.

It's probably for the best that you opened it. Hope you can use it or someone else can. Because even leaving it in its unopened packaging for too long could affect it after a certain time. It's still electronics. It doesn't last forever.

If I get certain cards, they'll be old enough that I wouldn't be using them. I'd simply keep them for display purposes.

Oh god, that cooler.. I had a R9 285 with a very similar cooler on it, back in the day, and it was the loudest GPU I've ever owned. The fans look quite distinctive.
I had a PowerColor TurboDuo R9 285 with those same goofy fans. Powercolor claimed they increased airflow vs traditional fan blade designs. I was always a bit skeptical of this, honestly. One thing I do know they did is increase the noise levels vs a more traditional design, lol. That said, at the time I bought it the 285 was a great card and quite unique in Radeon's lineup as it was on paper between the 280 and 280X but was more power efficient than either and added a number of features previously only available on the R9 290 and up.

Another great video mate, just wondering if you could look into adding EA WRC 2023 to the benchmark list / an independent video, My 5700 XT isn't able to play max settings at 1080p, while I know what I need to upgrade to to resolve it, I think it could be useful for others to see a video :) Like I said keep up the great content been watching since the OG core 2 quad "This CPU used to cost $xxxx" videos 🖤

Some devious people order new equipment, swap with broken or old and return it for refunds, Amazons rarely check returns and returns are sold on in "deals" like you've brought, most of the time the deals and broken or swapped items and not always what's in the box.
I had a power color r9 380x in 2016 for my first pc. It handled game’s decently well at 1080p at the time

On GPUs, most of the ones you get on their gambling site will be defective. Best case, you get the RX6600 I sent back because it benchmarked a little too far below the average...

I got a Dark Rock Pro 2 main unit in a Dark Rock Pro 4 box, which obviously didn't work out so well. Seems someone wanted a sneaky upgrade. The worst part about it was that I think they put it right back in the warehouse for the next sucker who didn't check the product. On the plus side I more recently got about 15% off a Samsung 870 EVO 4TB, and while it has been used a year (not exactly "like new") it only has 27 TBW on it. So it can be a deal; like anything second-hand, you need to know what you're getting.
There was a Wii boxed up in our damaged packaging bit when I worked at Amazon in 2022....., there is so much old stuff 🤣
finally an R7 370! I sold mine for $40 to buy a reference RX 580 for $50 just this year.
though mine was a Sapphire Nitro+ 4GB card, very silent even at 90% fan speed.
never regretted buying my R7 370 though, it was the better option vs the 1030 and 750 ti which are sometimes more expensive than the R7 370 for some reason.

I got an MSI X570S Tomahawk MAX WiFi motherboard from the Warehouse for £192. Absolute steal for an amazing board and it was in mint condition despite the description saying the package was damaged which it wasn't at all.
I bought my refurbished 5700xt OC for $130 from Amazon and it's working great with tuning through Adrenaline. Came in the original box, foam, paperwork, again inside Amazon box with bubble packs
This is actually a rebranded HD 7850 from 2012. Would have been a midrange card in 2012 but by the time of this rebrand it was meant as a budget/esports gpu.
Yeah, these cards were so good AMD rebranded them twice! (hd7850 > r7 265 > r7 370)
At first release, they were amazing. Matching Nvidia counterparts while using half (!) of the power. And they were extremely good overclockers. You could get +20% over stock performance without any hassle. That was what AMD did to rebrand them really.

My very first graphics card upgrade I bought with my own money was a Power Color PCS R9 380. I was 19 and it was such a huge upgrade from my Radeon HD 6870 I got for my 14th birthday. I kept that 380 until a few years ago when I got a 2060. Now I’ve got a 4090 arriving tomorrow. Moving up in the world…or maybe just age.
Decent general purpose & retro gaming card. And a good backup if your main GPU dies and you only want an image in the meantime
Amazon Warehouse mostly just sells things with minor scuffs, dropped boxes, items that were returned without being opened, etc. It lists as used, but most of the items I've gotten from there have literally just been new items.

When ivy bridge came out 1gb vram was standard for high end cards lol. I remember later on getting a r7 260x which was a great upgrade at the time with 2gb vram.
What makes you think amazon couldn't just re-wrap it?
Box wrapping isn't a rocket science.
Amazon itself sells wrapping appliances for under $150.
And that right side seal did look like it was unsealed at some point.
I've had both good and bad luck buying warehouse deals stuff, but never anything that old. Many good older Ryzen CPU's as long as you're capable of bending bent pins back. Several good motherboards at about 30% off most just had a few scratches, but the bad ones came without the I/O shield or heat sink back plates which were returned because to purchase them were either impossible or more than the savings, a couple came without things like sata cables, wireless antennas and whatnot which are no big deal. I also bought a power supply with no 24-pin cable which was refunded and told to keep with no charge. Note: There's a lot of 420 AIO's in warehouse deals that are uninstalled (compound still intact) but opened and ransacked because they didn't fit in the original customers case, but just be certain they didn't swipe an expensive part out of like a pump/fan controller. When the users trash the packaging they tend to deeply discount, probably not worth trying for less than 20% off because half the time you have to send things back due to missing parts.

A few years back, I ordered 4x8GB of Corsair Dominator DDR4 with the fan, in "excellent condition", via Warehouse Deals. Only 10% discounted versus new, at the time. In an otherwise empty box, I got a filthy sandwich bag with 3x2GB of Dominator DDR2 without the fan, and with a bunch of dust. And the rep tried to refuse a return, and insisted that it was tested and that I was trying to scam them. And the craziest part? The junk I got was actually mismatched generic DDR1 memory with Corsair heatsinks clipped on them. The date codes on the memory were between 1999 and 2002.
Another time, I got a GTX1080 for half price, listed "used-like new" and got a video card that was still in the box, and was complete, but was still drippin mineral oil out of it, from the mineral oil system it came out of. I got another half off (so 75% off retail) upon complaining to customer service. Then, I cleaned it up, replaced all the thermal paste and pads, and it still works fine today.
Your mileage *will* vary with warehouse deals.

I bought my 3060 from Amazon warehouse for around $300 after tax, at the time a brand new one was minimum $400. Been running the card for a year now and had no issues. Definitely worth it to try if you want to save a couple bucks and worst case scenario Amazon offers free returns up to 90 days if there are any issues.
I ran a couple of R9 280's in crossfire on a FX8350 in 2016. Talk about power hungry. Each of the cards took two 8 pin connectors so you defiantly needed a beefy power supply.
Cellophane is what's on a pack of cigarettes. Shrink wrap is what's on that. Crazy to see one unopened lol 😮

You should have tried that gpu with the cpu from the same era. I think performance in fps would be much lower. That i5 12th gen you have is doing great work for that gpu. I just tried r9 380x 4gb with 4th gen i7, fps in gtav was like 60 with settings you had. Nice find tho

When I built my first "gaming" PC I got myself the predecessor to this card the r9 270 which was a solid budget option at the time, it was the MSI model though and I really like their cooler design from back then.

How did the 270 fare for you? I had an MSI 270x and had to RMA it after 1 year. And then had to RMA the replacement one after only 6 months, by that point I didn't trust the 380 they sent me and just resold that for a used 290x 8gb 😂 but I believe the 270 was just an underclock and had less memory iirc so should have been the same core iirc
@stevenbasher5363 it was decent. From what I recall, I only replaced it when the 1060 became a reasonable price. Also, I was able to overclock it to similar performance to the X version.
The card is a first generation GCN card, which is just barely new enough to be supported by the amdgpu driver in Linux rather than only the old radeon driver. I believe you need to pass a kernel parameter to use the newer driver, though. This means that the card has Vulkan 1.0 support in Linux with the amdgpu driver. Some cards that they sold at the same time were GCN 2 and would use the newer driver automatically (and have Vulkan 1.2 support). I still have a working GCN 1 card from back then, though mine is a little older (I believe it's an R9 270). As far as I know, this is basically the same thing, but "souped up" and branded for the next generation. It certainly performs better than the one I have.

Would be nice to see the same PC with that very nice GPU you've got tested on a Linux Distro (maybe the ChimeraOS) and see if you can push more life onto the card on the same games (except for Fortnite).

When you have to crank the graphics down so low with The Witcher 3, it might be interesring to run the old version for conparison. Maybe even just a dedicated video comparing it on a few different cards.
I've found Amazon Warehouse to be a bit hit and miss, some good bargins on some stuff and then a £2 saving on a £400 item for other things that have parts missing. I did pick up a good deal on a curved gaming screen that Amazon claimed was complete in box to find that it needed a power cable (£5, no big deal) but I've also been shipped DDR4 in a DDR5 box...
In short, check the price of the new version to make sure the risk is worth the reward and double check whatever it is they ship you.
Yeah, I was prepared to ship back if things didn't work. Especially since the motherboard I bought was just missing the AM4 backplate. Pretty minor issue. I just stole the backplate from another, actually defective motherboard.
Bought a Well mined on and used 3090Ti, well used, corroded heatsink, dusty as F, its been 1 year and it still does 1000mhz on mem 200 on core with a 600watt bios pulling 557 under load. 1 year. Not to mention the PCB was immaculate, the memory may have been used but the gpu chip it self was had never seen a game. Bought for £550… re padded used liquid metal, cooler was left in rust removing solution, the gpu as i found out was mined with for 6 months, then stored in a damp place… basically a brand new 3090Ti
If you get an R7 APU from the time, they both worked together, giving the gpu some decent boost.
I got my old 1080 strix from Amazon warehouse for I believe 300 off whatever it was. It worked great. Can definitely get great deals from Amazon warehouse. I recently tried an open box gigabyte aorus master 4080, for $1089 and again had a wonderful experience, been running just fine for over 3 months now.
How did you find a deal like that? I just checked the website and the prices are all the same as new.
Not a mid-range card at the time. In 2012 the same GPU + memory configuration was sold as the HD 7850 and was a mid-range card at the time. By 2015 the twice rebranded GPU was entry level, existing between the GTX 750ti and GTX 950.
