Stumped Sangakkara, bowled Jayawardene brought the curtain down not only on the mismatched seven-game One-Day International series between Sri Lanka and England, but also on the home ODI careers of two of the most glittering gems in Sri Lanka’s cricketing crown.
Tillakaratne Dilshan produced a typically bruising century, and then followed it up with a three-wicket burst, to fashion Sri Lanka’s 87-run win in the final game at the R Premadasa Stadium on Tuesday (December 16), but this night was all about Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara.

These footages literally bring tears to my eye. A truly spirited One Day International. The atmosphere around was fantastic. Truly a team spirit was there to be witnessed. What went wrong? Why did the passion loosened from the current players of the team? England was at a transitioning period at the time this match was played, and look now where they are. Look where are we. How pathetic we became. Dearest players... if you can't play, or don't have enough talent... then Practice! Practice!! Practice!!! Sanga wasn't a born talented. Murali wasn't a born talented. Even Sanath wasn't a born talented. With the significant amount of time they sacrificed, which they had invested upon themselves played right, and country was triumphant. Current players, you sincerely cannot imagine the pain we endure when we witness the pathetic nature of yours as a generation who growed alongside cricket.
At the moment we are slowly climbing back up. We can be classified as the best in the leaderboard right after a team like new zealend. We need to give our players all the support we can as well. We will rise up.
You are right brother even i feel sad as a SL fan from🇵🇰 because SL is my 2nd favourite team after pakistan but now when i see no competition from them i feel really sad and i pray for them to come back strongly and challenge the world like they did in the past

I'm interested in whether it was Dilshan's last series at home too. I don't know whether he intends to retire after the World Cup, but the way he celebrated his hundred indicated that the crowd had forgotten about him in the Mahela/Sanga hype. If he did indeed make his intentions of retiring after the World Cup, it is very tragic that he wasn't included along with Mahela/Sanga in the previews
He is retired from tests long back and he plays only shorter format. He will play for lanka after world cup for a shorter period of time. May be they will set farewell series at home for him . Its only mahela who will retire from all formats.
