I was stationed at lossie on 202 SAR choppers in the 70's and went gliding with the Fulmar RAFGSA. The Air Training Corps were gliding on the other side of the runway from us. I was there when Prince Andrew did his gliding solo's and where you are standing was where an ambulance was parked while he was flying. I did my Bronze and Silver 'C' gliding certificated from Milltown and I remember the move to Kinloss very well. We had to tow an old yellow Bedford bus over there in the middle of the night to Kinloss. We used the air traffic control tower at Milltown as our club house and bar. The hangar housed RAFGSA and ATC gliders plus winches and an odd ball assortment of vehicles. It was also home to a yellow Auster, G-ARLO used as a glider tug. When Milltown ceased flying the RAF lads went to Kinloss and the civvys of the Highland Gliding Club went to Dalachy. I remember a few 'longest day' BBQs at Milltown where we flew from dawn to dusk at midsummer. Happy days.
