- Within this video we put the Hasselblad 500c up against the Mamiya 6 both with there respective 50mm Lenses, being the Mamiya 6 50mm & the Hasselblad Carl Zeiss Distagon 50mm f4 T*, one of the cameras loaded with Kodak Portra 400 and one loaded with Ilford FP4 Pushed to 400

Funny how the music gets as many comments as the photography!? Anyway, interesting comparison between the two systems. I used Hasselblad for many years and totally respect the optics and engineering, it is the medium format equivalent to Leica. However the Mamiya 6/7 are lighter and also have great glass. I'd still opt for Hasselblad but that's just a personal nostalgic view.
Street fighter 90' vibe, loved it! I am thinking I'll go for the Mamiya style, if you aiming at the ground, it looks like from far above with the 50mm lens! Fp4 pushed @400 is looking so nice! Which developer did he use?
And your shots looks interesting and colorful from the waist.
And last, I hope you two will do more videos together! A challenge is fun.

Hey so I developed in rodinal at 1:100 when I’m pushing slower films I don’t really tend to wanna “normal develop” them so to say, by stand developing your kinda garunteed a result regardless of how dense the negatives are, does help pulling back density by using a jobo system but since it was my second or third time trying to push FP4 I didn’t want to potentially ruin this whole video ( easier option would have been to just shoot a different film ) but for anyone that knows me they know I like to do things the stupidly complex way 😂

The Hasselblad camera, but I do like the image at 8:07. I'd like to see more videos like this (but even out the sound).
I own 3 or each, both wonderful cameras, the Mamiya 6 is better for street/handheld, and wide angle photography; the Hasselblad, being a SLR, is better at most other types of photography. While I love my Mamiya 6 the winder transport is prone to failure and I wish it didn't require a battery. Hasselbalds just work.
OK, Hasselblad that's clear. Most of you guys out there know all about this beautiful tool. Frankly spoken I'm impressed about the Mamiya, although shown pics are underexposed. Seems to be easy to use and a very practical camera. Good job! Like these comparisons - but next time same film to see quality one by one.
Tip - get yourself a belt clip key ring to hold your film slide. Attach the ring to your camera strap and clip in the slide. Avoids you putting it into your pocket and losing it.

Tip 2 The wind-on knob with the built-in selenium meter is a great option for about £20. Works really well and saves reaching into your pocket all the time. It’s as good as the Mamiya meter. :-)

Looking to get the Distagon 50mm f4. The wig photo was the standout.
Have both cameras, next time you guys should shoot the same film stock at the same speed for an actual comparison. I know you don't see it in scans but when darkroom printing you notice the hasselblad's lenses capture significantly more detail than the mamiya lens. I was shocked by this myself but I could enlarge the hasselblad negatives significantly more without losing visual detail in the print. Tried it with multiple different film stocks and got the same result. The mamiya 6 is also quite a bit more expensive than the hassy. Love both camera's tho. If anyone in the eu is looking for a mamiya 6 MF I'm selling mine (too many camera's, covid) it comes with all 3 available lenses, just shoot me a message if interested :) good video lads!

Between the two systems, I'd choose the Hasselblad, although my actual choice is a Pentax 67 with the outstanding 55mm 4.0. These and the Mamiua 50mm are such good lenses that there is no practical difference between them. I considered the Mamiya 6 and later the Mamiya 7 when thy first came out and rejected them as too costly for what you got and too limited in what they, being a rangefinder system, could do compared to a SLR system. The long term mechanical problems of the Mamiya further supports the decision. What we really learn in this video is that you cannot reasonably push FP-4+ as a regular practice, evidenced by Steve's inky shadows. He likes doing this because in overdeveloping the film to "push", he is getting a high contrast limited tonal range from middle tones through his highlights. Porta 400 show its low contrast and so-so saturation, designed for use in a highly controlled studio setting, and flat as a pancake out on the street.
Got to admit I miss the Pentax 67 such a great camera but between these two obvious the hassy is my choice and for the kind of things I’m shooting at the min personally I’m looking for that flat colour look

I’ve had two Mamiya 7s but each time let them go retain my Hasselblads 203FE, 503Cx and SWC. For me, it’s the view screen that is the major advantage. Plus of course a wide choice of lenses including a proper head and shoulders portrait lens; close-up tubes; extender tubes and a choice of metered and unmetered viewfinders.
IMO the Distagon 50 f:4 is too old optically to be compared with the Mamiya.
On the Hasselblad It should be the Distagon 50 FLE to compete with the Mamiya 6 50mm
While I have a Hasselblad 500CM and 4 lenses I do not like using it, I find it very hard to focus.

How is that? Just get the Acute Matte with Split Image or Micro-Prism. Very easy to focus. Or the PME... There are many ways
Neither. My weapon of choice would be Plaubel Makina W67 - it shoots in 6x7 format, and has a magnificent Nikkor's 55mm f4,5 lens via bellows what makes it extremely portable.
But it costs as AT LEAST one kidney these days, so I'll pass.
