  • This exclusive Guitar World lesson continues only at www.guitarworld...

    In this series of video, Alex Skolnick shows you how to play a jazz arrangement of the Metallica classic, "Fade to Black," from the new Alex Skolnick Trio album, Veritas. Here, Alex shows you how to play the song's intro, which is similar to the original but played an octave higher, and also a series of harmonics he plays over the intro. Live, he uses a looping pedal to play both parts.

    Alex is one of the best and most underrated guitar players EVER! He isn't only talented (like sooo amny) but hes as very decent musical-education. He can play all: Metal, Thrash, Pop, Classic, Fusion, Jazz..
    He is a F.Zappa type.

    That's by far the coolest freaking personal arrangement outside of the original I've ever heard! Love how he plays up in the 7th-10th positions with harmonics. Extremely underrated guitarist and awesome creative version.

    Alex Scholnicks guitar playing is intense and thought provoking go check out Testaments practice what you preach album if you don't believe me .He can shred with melody and substance like Marty Freedman .He also plays for Trans Siberian Orchestra and those guys can play.This is basically jazz arrangements of rock songs he put on a cd with his band .A well versed musician in all styles .You can't break that plateu of your playing if your so musically close minded.

    What are the little metal parts on the head stock that the strings go under. They are used mostly on fenders for instance the strat. It's not the nut or the tuners/tuning pegs

    • @woodchuk1
      @woodchuk1 3 года назад

      I think you’re referring to what’s called a “string tree,” if I’m not mistaken. It helps keep the strings from coming unseated from the nut slot, and is needed on Fenders because the headstock is flat and doesn’t angle back from the neck.

    @anippani I never liked any of Kirk's solos except the Unforgiven that is just fucking mind melting, I think Kirk would be cool to hang with cuz as a person he's deffs a tank but as a guitar player I think he is lacking quite a bit, not to pull the Megadeth V Metallica card but I was more a Megadeth fan then a Metallica fan :P I'm not one of "those guys" though and I respect if you prefer Megadeth

  • @MartyFriedmanRulez66
    @MartyFriedmanRulez66 13 лет назад

    @anippani But he does live, so you can infer that James told him not to use it cuz he uses it too much, and hater no, I usually don't put down other musicians but saying Kirk Hammett is better then Alex is like saying Slash is better Joe Bonamassa, or the Satch man himself, everyone's got their own opinions, but come on recycled pentatonic licks VS a guy whose never used the same lick more then twice, no contest now a good argument would be Alex VS Friedman
