Bought one of these at an auction. Local company wants $1200 to recharge it. Does anyone have a cheaper solution. I just want it around my garage, just in case.
NO. Using an air compressor means that you are using oxygen which has moisture in it. When you pressurize the tank it will automatically cause the dry chemical to clump together because of the moisture. You MUST use nitrogen. And unless you can buy a new nitrogen tank and 150lb of baking soda I would just buy a 20lb dry chem (Preferably purple K for your garage) and keep the wheeled extinguisher as a yard ornament.
Compressed air has moisture and therefore is not effective with dry chemicals. There’s a reason Nitrogen is used in dry chemical units but air is fine in water unites. Also, normal baking soda isn’t fluidized like the baking soda in a regular BC dry chemical extinguisher.
I am into my 5th decade of the fire extinguisher industry. What a breath of freshness to see a video here that is complete and correct.
What a cool unit!
God damn! That thing is HUGE!
I just picked up a unit for a hundred bucks. I am pretty happy
My name is ANSUL.

+raceforpride use an air compressor for the nitrogen tank, and some makeshift adapters. If you dont have the dry powder, baking soda will do fine.
