Notice how he says, "if I get old enough and leave" not "if I were to suddenly die." Do not use this video as an excuse to continue bashing Sarah Burton. If anyone were to continue Alexander McQueen's work, it might as well be his pupil.
I completely agree with Lee. This is how i've always felt about the succeeder of lines. However, mcqueen was a revolutionary designer- the most incredible artist of the 21st century thus far- and i think it is a beautiful thing for his line to ever last with all that he left behind. Although the shows are not the same without him, sarah burton can serve the fashion world with the vision of mcqueen at heart, andsurvive him through all of theknowledge andexperiences they sharedwhile he was alive.
Such a genius. I am now reading Blood beneath the skin from Andrew Wilson and it is an amazing book about “Lee”. So well written, so sad and yet so full of life/genius. He knew who he wanted to be since he was a little child. Immortal.
He was also asked about if he wasn't ACTIVELY INVOLVED which covers broader circumstances than death, to which he responded "I don't think so, because that person would have to come up for the concept of my show and my shows are so personal, how can that be?" I like Sarah Burton lets not be disingenuous, it's pretty clear, at least here, that he didn't want anyone who wasn't him coming up with concepts for a brand which did not only have his name on it, but was HIS intellectual property.
She is boring and a disappointment. Has obviously learned nothing but sewing from McQueen, that i give her. But there is no revolution/rebellion or anything of the sorts. She just does what any couture designer would do. So for McQueen that’s a poor continuation. She’s a simpleton.
@@Etienne_H..... Lol, what a load of nonsense. You imbecile. You're the simpleton. At any rate, Sarah Burton is at the head of a multi million dollar company and you're not. A company, I might add, that never made a cent until Miss Burton took over......... Tampon strings hanging off crotches is vulgar and doesn't sell clothing.
@@Consrignrant Selling clothing makes you a capitalist at best. That's not how art is birthed. Let's not forget that Sarah burton wouldn't be looked at once, if it wasn't for Lee's legacy. And the company always made profit. You nobody moron.
Its weird because I JUST finished watching the Spring 2011 show, and the spirit of Mcqueen wasn't there. Sarah Burton's skill may have covered it up for some people, and imitated some of his previous pieces to hide the difference, but there is a big massive hole in the middle of the show. There is no emotion, an aspect McQueen's shows were drenched with. People are referring to the brand as a "fashion house" now, which bothers me because now it is grouped with the falseness of Gucci & others.
It seems, he said all this here, yet if he had years to his life into old age, it seems he would have changed his perspective. Anyone who understands how a creative/artist type individual thinks about the quality of the art, the standards will get what he is saying here, anyone who has lived long or seen others of success at an older age will understand the tradition of carrying forward, honoring, paying homage to, evolving the brand and employment as to jobs/job creation, the establishment of a business that which lends to economic opportunity, the standards and practices of all that is involved, from machines, to materials, to suppliers, to the network connections. It is so tragic he died so young. Really is. That as it is, this as was said, it seems he would, the sweet side of himself would find it endearing, all the fuss that’s been made about him, equally unfortunate it wasn’t made as that while he was alive, and that the content was trying to depict him, his fashion as so controversial, as the rebel, because it really wasn’t needed. He didn’t have to be depicted as evil, as a rebel, as one who pushed boundaries too far, as though he was anything besides a unique sweet fashion designer/creative, one of the best the industry has ever seen, imo, easily.
There are ways of honoring and carrying on his legacy without forcing the McQueen brand to continue. His influences on art and fashion will live on forever regardless of the longevity of the McQueen brand. I'm sure Sarah Burton is just trying to honor the memory of her mentor and friend but it's just so unnecessary and does indeed feel very undignified.
Domenico and Stefano don't want Dolce & Gabbana to continue without them either, even though they're shit now, but the problem is that their brands become so big that they're not little independent ateliers making clothes for a few people, they're worldwide class businesses, of course they'll continue without them, the stores are all around the world, the perfumes, accessories and cosmetic lines are everywhere with their names on it, they won't respect the artist's wish to stop when they die, they'll explote the name forever. Look at how John Galliano's mark was erased from his house, yet it's almost gonna be 10 years with Bill Gaytten there trying to revive a dead house, this people from LVMH or the Gucci Group don't give a fuck.
I wonder if some of them regret ever signing their brands to these filthy corporations who are capable of killing anyone who stops their gravy train. I often wonder if it’s what happened to McQueen
@phoneylala90 same i just saw it and it seemed way to normal, very generic and mainstream, no creativity or eccentricity. Mcqueen will never be replaced, plain and simple.
I felt the same way. So suspicious. Just look at his gaze. Full of energy. And also there were another two musicians in 2017 that dead the same way as Lee and the media blamed suicides too. I don't quite think so.
sarah burton is completely overlooking lee's legacy in these recent few years of collections its so fucking disappointing. mcqueen was NEVER a brand. mcqueen is art. burton treats mcqueen as a BRAND and a JOB and its disgusting
If the gucci group carry on with the brand, as everybody knows just for money its going to go downhill regardless of who the next in house designer is they will never be McQueen. Then leading to media saying how the brand has been killed totally wrecking everything Lee worked for. Leave the company on a high and let it die with Lee. Its what he wanted and anybody with respect for him wants!
the brand is a joke compared to the work he did to create it and innovate... just another dull, glossy premium brand with no soul. It should have died with him, rather than steer his legacy into the same old, same old designer crap that he rallied against from the beginning.
at lleast mcqueen is being carried on by sara burton his understudy of 5 years instead of someone compleatly diffren and has no idea of what mcqueen was or did. and in my opinion shes doing an amazing job :)
And just like that, they took his brand and ruined it. Mass market rubbish, selling built up Stan Smiths to the masses. Not a vision he would want applied to his name.
If he only new the kering grup is milking his name and evry penny they have no dignity they shoud close the place down that what he said not cary on fukrers
he was just one of the luckiest one who's graduating colection been bought by Isabela Blow and his shows in Paris financed.comon...there is many houndreds or thousands of huge talented designers starving for money to open theyr owen brand, shop, show!
How dare you disrespect this woman who was literally by Alexander’s side through majority of his career. Without Sarah, Alexander wouldn’t have evolved to have shown the things he was able to do. Realize that these fashion houses are able to do the things they do because of hundreds of other people working every part of the machine and Sarah Burton was right by his side. She is not some hungry beast that took the house like some wounded prey.
@@ckaji15 Let's agree to disagree. Although I understand that they may have a professional relationship--the image of the brand in itself is not the same. I stand by my comment.
Alexander McQueen was a true visionary. There are many valid reasons for carrying on his legacy, it's not just about the corporation. It's peoples lives. Do you think it was wrong that Versace carried on after Gianni died?
Lee is so right; people don't have real style any more--they just wear labels and brands. Deeply missed.
McQueen was such an interesting person. Rest in Peace.
So what's happening right now, the Gucci group continuing the McQueen brand, is exactly what he didn't wanted to happen
Gucci needs its money, plain and simple. They should not carry on McQueen without MCQUEEN
GENIUS greatest Artist of our times.

There is no other like him. Surprised his brand is still going but it totally lacks his genius in my opinion.

Him and Galliano. My favorite designers and they both committed a form of suicide. Why on earth do they do that? Drives me nuts.

Tell me more why u think this .please
He had depression, cocaine addiction and extremely stressed at his work.

why he must have died ? :(
I am very much a McQueen purist. Burton does a great job, but I only get Lee’s designs. He was a brilliant artist.

They should of respected that fact that he didn't want anyone to do his clothes and even if you watch his fashion shows now they are not good.
Was Mcqueen past a lot different than what Riccardo Tisci does today for Givenchy?

In came Sarah Burton that justified Lee’s statement. I wish the brand respected this snippet and didn’t hand it over to her. It’s just not the same.
