    I love those old rheem units. So easy to work on

      Built like tanks. I think they were one of the best condensing units made, super reliable.

    Stuck shafts are probably my most hated problem. The super stubborn ones I now use a metal punch and hammer and beat it out of the hub. Works like a charm.

    I use a 11/32" deep socket with a 3/8" chuck for motors for that reason. I carry 11/32, 3/8, 1/2, 9/16 I carry them in a coin bag and carry them in my pocket for quick accessibility just a little tip bit from cali.

    Seriously, those Rheem systems with Bristol compressors were the pinnacle of engineering.
    Rheem made those condensing units and 100% stainless hot water tanks. Nearly killed the company. But a joy to work on.

      I’ve installed many of them. At the time they also sold cubes. But, I just loved those rectangles

    Why did you cut off the ground wire from the new motor?

    You can use your pump down tool(service wrench) for those set screws on those shafts. In my opinion it makes life easier and you don’t slam your knuckles as much when using that vs adjustable wrench.

    You sure do have a lot of run cap bandits in your area.

      And customers don’t seem to care - it’s not worth the effort to tell them. They pay no attention to quality of work, until something bad happens. The only incentive to do it right is personal pride in your work.

    Screw the nut back on the bolt just a little and unthread with your fingers.

    Curtis I have a question.
    How do you know what size motor you can substitute for another motor? For example if you have a 1/4 hp motor, can I substitute that with a different horsepower? Or if I have a 1/3 horsepower motor can I substitute that with a different horsepower motor? How do I know what I'm allowed to and what I'm not allowed to use in substitute of a different horsepower motor?

    • @dantemariscal8679
      @dantemariscal8679 2 года назад +2

      For any replacement motor you could go up a 1/4 of a hp (ex. 1/4hp to 1/3hp) do not go up a whole 1/2hp of the original motor. Unless it’s a tiny motor like a 1/8hp motor but also remember to get the rpm’s right on the condenser fan motors. If you put a motor with the wrong rpm’s it won’t cool properly

    Those tall motors don't allow the blades to sit in the shroud.

    do you have to remove those plugs on that motor?

    • @HVACGUY
      @HVACGUY  2 года назад

      Just make sure they’re out of the bottom and in the top. Sometimes you have to move them.

    Always use a fan blade puller. NO banging! Buy the metal one, not aluminum.
