Between this and the '61 Lincoln, Ford had the best luxury car styling in the world at the time

This was a forgotten body style. They ran the bullet birds from 61 - 63, but when you look at the 64 - 66, they look like they picked up where the 58 - 60 left off.

My parents bought a baby blue '61 T-Bird around 1963 or 64. It was the first car they had with A/C. My mom had a perforated eardrum, and couldn't ride with her window down, or she would end up with a terrible ear ache. Now she could enjoy riding in hot weather for the first time

The first of the Bullet 'Birds...the best-looking T-bird since the original 1955-57 model, i.m.o.

Great commercial. It looks like the car was lowered for this commercial.

They were a class unto themselves, the Thunderbird was like the only real sport luxury
car out there. It was quite the car to have then! You really noticed them.

1961 is an extremely handsome and understated design year for Thunderbirds. These were considered very chic cars in the early 1960s

Back then Thunderbird was sold almost like another division, I would say it was between a Mercury and a Lincoln. It was "Thunderbird by Ford," not Ford Thunderbird. Matter of fact, the only place on the whole car where it even says Ford is on the center console where there is small a badge that says, "Product of Ford Motor Company." These were also made in the Wixom, MI plant. At the the time the only other car that came out of Wixom was the Lincoln and Ford played that up in their Thunderbird advertising.

The early '60s T-bird was SO emblematic of President Kennedy!

@@johnscanlan6337 There were fifty 1961 Thunderbirds in his inauguration parade. But the suicide door Lincoln Continentals were much more associated with him....he is photographed in many of them besides the Presidential Limousine. Also, he liked big Mercury convertibles. I think he was a lifelong fan of the FoMoCo.

@@kennethsouthard6042 you are absolutely correct. On all counts.
It was aimed at the upper class. Prestigious Professional Personal Car Buyer.
Many Thunderbirds were traded on cars like Imperial, Cadillac, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar and other exclusive marques.

I believe the T-Bird was the INDY PAce car for 61. I'm here cause my parents had one when I was a baby. VEry Dark Green with white interior. I do remember it even tho I was young. Wish I had that now. My dad gave it away in 68 or 69.

Funny how ads show cars lower for aesthetics. I’m trying to get mine to that stance

Back in the early 60's we used to say the T- Birds dash boards looked like an airplane. And they did.
