I worked in live comedy for almost 10 years. When Dave would come through town he'd stop In and do some shows. They'd be sold out instantaneously. He would improv and do crowd work till the wee morning hours. Up on stage smoking his cigarettes, eating nachos, just shooting the shit. He was a very generous to the whole staff as well as a gracious guest. Class act 100% and an honor to meet.
He will occasionally do that here in Columbus. I thought it was just because he lives in Ohio. His place is about an hour West of Columbus. He must do it everywhere.
He truly is iconic.

He’s such a masterful performer he can say that in the middle of a killer set to show how little he cares about what anyone thinks of him. He was willing to keep his integrity by sacrificing his career. He came back so much stronger and just keeps challenging the boundaries of political correctness and wokeness. You get more truth about the culture from comedians of Dave’s caliber than all other media put together.
The best is when he's talking about brittle spirits and the National Anthem. 😂😂😂😂

I watched my first Dave Chappelle Stand-up about a year ago. If the audience would just really listen to what he's saying, not only would they laugh, but they receive a lifetime of wisdom. Simply put, he's brilliant.
Dave is right up there with George Carlin. Two brilliant minds.
George Carlin, really? Maybe it's a generational thing, (Jordan/Lebron) but Dave is so much more or a philosopher than Carlin the war protesting complainer . Anyone can "Stand up against the man," but to burn down the establishment, that's Dave Chappelle!
@@odellgreene234 It is definitely a generational thing. Carlin's career was winding down just as Dave's was getting started. They experienced two entirely different Americas and so would obviously have different ways of approaching comedy.

He had a very good reason to leave, and he mentions this in many of his interviews and stand ups. Hollywood is sick , and he deserves more $$ than what they wanted him to settle for. They tried to make it look like he went crazy and if they drove him crazy I could see why.

Comedy is absolutely subjective. But imo, he is clearly the GOAT. And none of us would ever say that lightly. His old stuff was top top tier.
Took me a minute when he came back. I was expecting more of the same and wasn't ready for this completely new, articulate, story telling Dave.
I still love his old stuff. But this version of Dave is just extraordinary in every way. The best story teller I have personally ever seen. Intelligent, insightful, immaculate timing. And most off all, just fucking hilarious.
Hated it when he got dragged into the cancel culture. Because I honestly don't think he holds any animosity towards any group whether racial, sexual, gender, whatever. He'll take the piss out of anyone and anything.
And he was trailblazing comedy through that period when everyone was to scared to do so. Hopefully the rest continue to pick up the baton from Dave and later Gervais.
Stand up is fundamentally important to our society at present. Because it demonstrates that words do not have a to equate to ideals, actions or thoughts. They're just words. If we allow the world to forget this, then it's game over IMO.

@@mperez9745 I imagine that most people who are fans of comedy, and are confident to name the likes of Dave as the GOAT, have heard of Richard Pryor. And if they've heard of Pryor, and not watched his outstanding body of work, then yeah I'm with you. Their point is moot until they have done so.
On the point re. him being a big influence on Dave. That is absolutely true and Dave has himself stated this. As well as the likes of Norm Mcdonald, Patrice, Charlie Murphy etc.
But in his current evolution, Dave is as much influenced by his heritage, his mother, and the years she spent explaining how their culture had a resident story teller.
He was always a great story teller, but his jokes were very high tempo, regular punchlines and very relevant to the black community first, and America as a whole second. Very Richard Pryor, albeit his act never had Pryors sheer energy, as that's not Daves style.
His act isn't like that any more. Not even close. He gets up and he tells stories. The punchlines come less frequently than before, but they are masterful, and he's one of the best storytellers you're ever likely to see.
In short, Pryor was amazing. He was the GOAT for decades IMO. He blazed the trail that has led to Dave. But, IMO, Dave is better. It's all subjective

When Dave talks about people of color in the Civil War, and the trekking across the oceans, I heard that part of his talk on a track by Killer Mike. I’ve listened to it every day for months, but today is the first time that I cried. It hits different. If people could put away their egos and love, one, another, man, woman, or child, ethnicity religion, it’s all irrelevant. if you take a white egg and a brown egg and you crack them both and put them in a skillet, the eggs are the same. .❤

Well Dave is complex so maybe what you heard was part of his message. But I heard him differently. Greatest evil isn’t people standing by. He said we should forgive people not strong enough to carry the heavy load of resisting unjust circumstances and should support those strong enough to fight back, and over time we collectively make ourselves stronger. Because we’re in this together and it is STRUCTURAL, not about this individual here or there. The Capitalist Manifesto he calls it at the end of that final story. I could write a damn novel on the brilliantly obvious reasons why Dave Chappelle is the greatest comedian of all time. But the simple fact is, I’m pretty sure many folks don’t even realize why he is brilliant to the level of being profound in the depth of meaning in so much of what he presents. But for those that do, I know for sure that it is just as profoundly impressive as it is to me that someone is capable of communicating such extraordinary clarity of message and concept, even in presentations of topics that represent actual tragedy, in a way that is genuinely funny. To me that sort of thing seems literally impossible. But for some reason, Dave is able to do this with absolutely seamless perfection. It is just awesome to watch. 👍🏻😎👍🏻

Glad to be alive to witness all that is, the legendary, Dave Chappelle. I read that book “Pimp” and the book is very hard to understand without the glossary of terms. But once you understand the lingo, your invited into a world that is unforgettable. Long live Dave Chappelle.
It makes me think of that saying. The suffering of man is both necessary and useful.
