      oh yeah, its a common writing convention. In a setting with pre-established history it's difficult for writers to have characters who have supposedly been there all their lives if not the majority to not know the history and rules, festivals etc.
      The trope is called the "Naive Newcomer" essentially acting as an audience surrogate so the characters have a reason to explain information they already know

      It has been shown the only reason why they are hard on them is because its their job, and they actually like the kids. Hence Miss Finster saying "Just because I punish you, doesn't mean I don't like you" to TJ in the episode Nobody doesn't like TJ, and when they aren't at school working they show their more human side. Like when Miss Finster babysat Spinelli

      John Smith If there was fresh tar on the road, they should have that section closed off from traffic. If that section was not closed off, and someone drove into it, the workers are at fault. If they did have it closed off and someone drove into the tar, the driver is at fault.

    • @jsmithers.
      @jsmithers. 6 лет назад +4

      Jack Stevens Ok in your own example, TJ and the kids would be likee someone driving into the tar even after it was already closed off...The act of climbing on a statue you shouldn't be on is like driving through a work zone you shouldnt be in. A worker cant finish every job 100% before leaving or taking a break.

      if at the end of the day or break time, a task is not finished and is dangerous to others you barricade it and secure it . example, take an escalator. When maintenance is being done, the power is shutoff and locked out, and both top and bottom are blocked off. if both aren't done and someone gets killed, all workers doing the work will most likely be fired and possible sued

      As much as I'd like them to continue the series, I think its fine if they leave it as is. There's close to 100 episodes and even a handful of movies. We've gotten pretty much everything we can get from the show. If they did remake it, it wouldn't have to be TJ and the gang. The concept of "Recess" can apply to any gang of kids at any school.

    It's pretty obvious how this would go in real life... Kids would get punished sure, but nothing all that severe, it's the construction workers' fault. Not only for leaving the job unfinished, but also for not putting up any safety cones or tape. Those are two people that unfortunately lost their jobs because the group of kids were dumb enough to play on a statue.
    It's a pretty weak argument to say that kids just climb on statues......... Maybe thats just an outdated thing, but I never heard of it.
    The worst thing about all of this wouldn't be the punishment from the school or their parents... It would be the media absolutely terrorizing these kids. It's interesting to think of the modern day implications of this scenario.

    I love it on how there was never an inspection of the statue's remains, to where they could find out that it was never bolted down. The workers were supposed to finish the job, then go on lunch; or hang a sign that says: Statue not secure, do not Climb, Push, or Lean on Statue." Sheesh, if there was a strong enough wind, which could be the case since leaves are falling, the statue could have been blown over, & fall on the Principal! Everyone but Mr. Third, was too busy being irrationally angry, that they didn't even consider it. They just started pointing fingers. "Statue wasn't going anywhere." "The Destructive Six." Some adults never really grow up.

  • @PeninsulaPaintings
    @PeninsulaPaintings 5 лет назад +3

    It's very fitting for the times how they're fussing over the statue...for the sake of the statue, rather than the fact that the kids could have been crushed to death when it fell over. Nowadays, the builders would have been sued for not bolting it down.

  • @stephanietorresreyes2925
    @stephanietorresreyes2925 6 лет назад +8

    The only thing wrong here and why Third stepped in is because everyone was going too far with the kids punishment. Sure, since they broke the statue, maybe they deserved some kind of punishment like detention , but treating the kids like they are hardened criminals and separating them over an accident was just cruel and unusual punishment that even Finster thought was too much...plus the statue wasn't that well made in the first place, since in the past it held dozens of kids without breaking but now with just sixth, it broke, just what did does construction workers do to it?
    So the way I see it, is if you are going to punish someone for breaking something, just make sure it's a fair punishment that takes all the facts into account, don't go over board
