- Hello everyone and welcome back to my channel. Today’s vlog is a look into a small part of my wardrobe. I get asked a lot if I’d film a vlog looking through my wardrobe. I fear that would be so long as I have a lot of me made garments in there now. So I thought the best way to approach it would be to share a small part of my wardrobe each week. I thought I’d start with my favourite dress pattern which is the Deer and Doe myosotis dress pattern.
You can purchase the pattern here:
shop.deer-and-...
The floral fabric I’m wearing was given to me in return for a blog post. I got given it from Crafty Sew and So:

Marie from Stitch Odyssey can be found here:

Her hack to omit the collar can be found here:

Thank you so much for watching. My next video will be looking at some fabrics I have and pairing them with patterns.
Let me know below what your go to pattern is and if you’ve got any suggestions for vlogs let me know too.

I started cancer treatment this time last year. Believe me your hair is beautiful! Love the dress
I've just made my first Myositis in ax See Haley Jane double gauze . First dress after chemo and I love it. I put an invisible zip on the side Sean which was quite the Argentina but I've worked out how to do that more result. I could put in a simple zip centred behind the seam but I prefer the invisible zip. I've just ordered some Robert Kaufman Memory flannel to make a winter one. I backed the bust dart off 1cm
Great pattern review. I am so glad to see someone else using snaps...I absolutely love snaps. I use them all the time and I think they add a nice pop of color and they are so fast to put in. All your dresses are so pretty and you look fabulous in them. Thanks for sharing.
I love how you made nine dresses out of the same pattern and your hacks to the dress. My favorites are the one you have on and the black and white stripe. Love black and white anything. They are all great dresses.
Love, love , love your makes. I have now made my first Myosotis dress. Beautiful dress. I will definitely make more........use up my stash 😁💖
Thank you - it’s such a great pattern isn’t it! Xx
You look very pretty and as you say, it will grow! X x x
Love all of your Myosotis dresses they are amazing
Thank you 💖
Great selection
I loved all your versions, it really is a beautiful pattern and it's great that you've shown it in so many different type of fabrics. I like the neckline hack and will definitely be giving this pattern a go in the future xx
Thank you for watching. The neckline hack is great - I much prefer the collarless version xx
Your hair is lovely. Very becoming. Love all of your dresses and the fabrics you chose.🌺👗
Thank you 💖
The dress your wearing is definitely a happy fabric. Loving your vlogs.
Thank you so much for watching xx
Beautiful my fav was the lemons but all stunning
Glenda Bathgate thank you xx
I've made two so far one of them I used two different fabrics the top half was a colourful flower pattern and i chose the skirt in a plain colour I matched it with one of the colour from the flowers fabric and the sleeves matched the skirt keep up the vlog I am silently in the back ground watching all of your videos always a great job you do and I always remember to click the thumbs up.
Such a good idea to use two different fabrics together!!! I’m definitely going to try that - thanks for the inspiration 💖
I like the grey and yellow best. You do good work.
Thank you x
Hi Liz, such a lovely dress and all your versions are gorgeous 💕... great review of the pattern 👌😁😘
Thank you 💖
I LOVE the dress ( lovely fabric 😍 ) you wear !!
Thank you xx
Beautiful dresses. Love, love. 💖💐
Thank you xx
Lovely video liz - I love your energy and your style
Thank you xx
Love all your dresses! You inspired me a while back to buy the pattern so I now have that and want to make one for the summer! 😁💕 x
Thank you - it really is my favourite dress pattern! Look forward to seeing your version xx
I had to piece the frill on my double gauze dress. I like stripes going different ways
Love your hair!
Thank you so much for your offer and indeed if you lived in Northern Ireland I’d probably take up your offer. Don’t get me wrong my dress looks lovely for a bigger size- my husband suggested I take it apart 🙈. I did take it in 2 inches as far as I could but still massive. I used cotton double gauze which may have stretched. I think next time I’ll use stable cotton and go down one size. I also used the no collar method you suggested by another sewer which looks great.
I love the no collar method such a simple change but looks lovely xx
I was scared of the Buttonhole. I used my Bernina 880 for buttonholes for the first time. Omg. So so simple
The floral one you're wearing is my favorite, followed by the gingham. 😁 I love how you add the tie and use snaps.
Thank you 💖
Liz they are all beautiful. Can’t wait to sew up mine. I’ll tag you in the post once I get started 😁
Thank you - yes please do tag me I love seeing everyone’s makes xx
After looking at all your lovely myosotis dresses I made one. Mine is awful! Huge! Even though I made the size for my measurements. I’ve no idea how many sizes I should go down as I would still love one
Liz MItchell oh no! I’m sorry to hear this!! I always add ties at the side seams so I can bring it in. It’s meant to be over sized - I usually go off my busy measurement and ignore the other size measurements as it’s the bust area where it’s fitted most. Happy to help if you think I can? Xx
your hair looks great and love your dress
Thank you xx
Your hair looks great!
Thank you 💖
Lovely selection of dresses! Good idea with using the snaps, I wouldn't have thought of that. My machine only has 4-step buttonholes and I'm afraid 😬 Did I spy some Lady McElroy single ladies fabric in the background? I just got some too so would be interested to see what your plans are for it. Looking forward to your fabric video. I think learning about fabric has been a surprise steep learning curve in my sewing journey. Trying to make a dress with the wrong fabric is like trying to make a cake with the wrong ingredients, it's just not going to turn out right. Keep up the good work and enjoy the holidays! 😀
Thanks so much for watching. I love using snaps - so much easier than button holes!! I have worked out that if o change my needle and sew the button holes slowly they work. Yes you did spy some single ladies fabric in the background - it’s so lovely. I think I’m going to use it to make the sagebrush top. Yes I agree - learning about fabric has been my biggest learning curve sewing too. Thanks for watching and your support xx
This is a thorough and detailed review of the myosotis dress. I would love to make this dress. Do you think it is ok for a beginner?
I love the dress you are wearing, it's so pretty. I also love that you made the bodice area longer (i think i would do that too).
I REALLY, Really, really enjoyed this video! I think more RUclipsrs should share a video of just their favorite pattern(s)...especially, to share the less obvious reasons why they love it (like your digestive issues and your changing bustline). And I think so many of us newer sew-ers think we need to make different patterns to get different looks, rather than sticking with a tried-n-true pattern and changing up the fabrication, adding hacks, and mixing up the pattern pieces (I certainly didn't think of it...now I want SO MUCH to do this). Plus, by sticking with the one pattern, one can save money and get really good at that pattern, and like you said, always reach for it in one's closet. Thank you for this video...do you have any more patterns that you've sewn up as often? I'd love to see your other tried-n-trues.
I'm still pretty new to sewing and have only sewn two patterns more than once (Simplicity 1504, making my sons and nieces matching Christmas pajamas is going into its third year of being a tradition; and I made a wearable muslin for McCalls 7687 before making a different view out of my fashion fabric). But I think my first ever tried-n-true, to be made in all the views, with many fabrications will be #ClosetCorePatterns #pietrapants...I made the shorts, view C, in a lovely linen; and I just can't stop wearing them. I have plans to make the cropped wide-leg trouser, view A cropped, in a striped rayon twill (fabric already bought), and I want another pair of shorts in a denim (with a lighter weight chambray or something for the back waistband), and I'm curious to see if the tapered trouser, view B will look as good on my body as the shorts and cropped versions. I'm getting excited just commenting about it. (p.s. sorry for the long-winded comment) Thanks, again, for this video!
Thank you so much for such a detailed comment I do love being able to have conversations with other sewists on here. It’s really interesting to hear other people’s ideas and thoughts with patterns. I’ve just published my vlog showing my indigo dresses - another tried and tested pattern! I’ve also made lots of Ogden camis and pietra shorts as well as Tilly and the Buttons Tabitha t-shirts and dresses. I’ll maybe film some more vlogs sharing these? Thanks for your support xx
The baker that sews ooh! Yes, please! I’ve been eyeing the Ogden Cami and I thought I remembered you making Indigo dresses (did you hack it with an Alexa, or am I remembering another YTer?). I’m super into Tully’s instructions and her way of infusing her personality in her books...but I have only ever been tempted to buy and make a couple of her patterns, because I’m not sure she’s my style. But maybe I need to see more examples/change the fabric more to my style/taste.
Nicole Fong Yes I did hack it using the Alexa dress. I really like Tilly’s patterns are a starting point and have used her patterns to create my own versions recently. I’ve just published my latest vlog sharing my indigo dresses. Thank you for your support x
This hair length is really lovely on you. Really highlights your cheekbones.
Thank you x
All of your dresses are lovely but my favourite is the white and navy striped one. I like the snaps idea. Are they hard to use and what brand would you recommend? As for IBS, I feel for you as I also have it. I know people often recommend things that help but in my experience there’s nothing that stops it permanently and no easy way out. I would highly recommend that you listen to The Gut Loving Podcast. It’s hosted by Laura Tilt, a registered dietitian in the UK with a special interest in gut health. I thought I knew a lot about IBS but her podcast has been really helpful. I recommend listening from the beginning but season three is good as she interviews different people that are either experts in the subject or suffer from it. It makes me feel better knowing that I’m not alone, especially when I have a flare up. I’m loving your videos and i hope you reach 2k subscribers soon. It’s well deserved.
Thank you for your comment - i know what you mean about feeling better knowing you’re not the only one going through IBS. Thanks for the suggestion of the podcast - I love having something to listen to when sewing so I’ll definitely check it out. The snaps are really easy once you’ve practised as you need to figure out how form to be for different fabrics. I use prym snaps and the prym pliers as I find they work better for me. Xx
The baker that sews thanks for your reply. I might bite the bullet and buy some snaps 😊
I do love this pattern so much. I just bought some very drapey rayon fabric and am wondering if it would work. It is really beautiful fabric but is extremely drapey. Thoughts?
That's incredibly that you made so many dresses from the same pattern. It's a great idea.
Thank you - I do love reusing a pattern xx
Love your makes 😁 Where did you get the green fabric hanging on your door in this vlog? It's gorgeous!
Thank you - the green floral fabric is from Ohsewshop on Instagram. www.ohsew.co.uk/
@@Thebakerthatsews thank you
Loving the dresses you've made. With the ties do you cut them across the fabric?
Hi thanks for watching. Yes I dusky cut a strip across the fabric. I’m in the middle of editing a myosotis sew a long where I show this bit. Hopefully it’ll be up next week xx
@@Thebakerthatsews oh fantastic. I love your videos.
I love all your dresses. Have you made the darling ranges dress. I'm trying to decide between that one and this one?
Thank you - I have the darling ranges dress but haven’t made it up yet. Madebycathcraft has made that pattern a few times - they always look lovely x
I made a toile first and with both that and my dress the collar piece was not long enough
.
Your hair looks great
thank you 💖
Do you need the buttons? Can you just pull it on? I like the dress but I have a thing about buttons, I just can't stand to wear them. I'm wondering if I could just cut it on the fold. Weird phobia I know 😬
That would be nice. Maybe just a seam in the front or the faux button look. I wonder if leaving out a couple or all the waist darts would allow you to get it on easier without having a button closure up front.
I’ve made two of them in same size 38 and I don’t need to undo the buttons to get them on and off. Some of the buttons I’ve just just sewn on without holes. I’ve thought about hacking it to cut it on the fold but need to consider the seam allowance and the extra amount you pull the placket over to button up etc
You can definitely make it without the buttons. I know some people have sewn it up and left the buttons off - so sewn the placket together so you still get that detail. It’s very roomy.
Now I want to try this pattern! Sorry ... but why is it called a myosotis dress?
It’s a great pattern. I’m not sure why it’s called the Myosotis though? I know the myosotis is a type of plant/flower xx
😀
☺️
Have you tried aloe juice it’s excellent for IBS
Thank you for the tip - I haven’t tried aloe juice but I’ll look into it xx
I wish you had done a sew along. The collar is tricky.
I can do a sew along- it’s such a familiar pattern to me. I always worry I’m not experienced enough to do a sew along 🤷🏼♀️ I’ve got time over the summer if you’d find it helpful XX
Also thanks for the feedback - really appreciate it xx
what kind of snap is that.
They’re the prym snaps - I also bought the pliers as they really make a difference when applying them that way. Here’s a link to some as an example: jaycotts.co.uk/collections/prym-colour-snaps
